Stockton bank robbers with 3 hostages
´had to be stopped,´ chief says

Los Angeles Times, by Joseph Serna

The three armed bank robbers who engaged Stockton police in a deadly shootout that left a hostage and two of the gunmen dead "had to be stopped," the department´s police chief said Thursday. More than 20 Stockton police officers discharged their weapons during the chaotic chase, which began after 2 p.m. Wednesday outside a Bank of the West in a strip mall. Speaking to reporters at a news briefing Thursday, Police Chief Eric Jones said the three gunmen, identified as members of the violent Norteno street gang, emerged from the bank armed to the teeth and shielded by three hostages -- two female bank employees and a female

Comments:
What good is it to call them "violent gang members, probably Hispanic, if you don´t now use RICO to break them up. Once this sinks in to other offenders of the same ilk, bank robberies are going to get more brutal from those illegals being allowed in by 0bama. Bet it, yet?

While I don´t like cops using undue force to resolve a situation, they´re far, far better at killing those who really need killing than the courts. The courts just release folks like these bank robbers back on the streets in a few months or years.

The trouble with the cops is they often don´t seem to discriminate between the innocent and harmless and the violent bad guys.

If hostages were held in a building, the police would have held back. They were held in a vehicle and fleeing, and the police closed resulting in a exchange of gunfire and got all the hostages shot. There should be an investigation and review of this procedure.

If even one hostage was killed by the police, the whole operation was a failure. All this ´had to be stopped´ talk is just a cover for their improper tactics.

as the teams say; "it sucks to be the hostage"

Given the economic state of Stockton - 30 officers on suspension has got to hurt the duty roster - what´s to stop a few more like this before there is no one left on duty?

Kiev - Ukraine intelligence officials said they knew three days before the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 that rebels in the east of the country possessed sophisticated air-defense systems capable of felling a jetliner at altitudes in excess of where the Boeing 777 was flying. The disclosure deepens the mystery of why Ukrainian aviation officials failed to entirely close off the airspace in the Donetsk region, where the jet was flying went it was shot down, killing all 298 people on board. Three Buk-M1 medium-range antiaircraft systems, also known as the SA-11 Gadfly under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization designation, were known to be in

Hundreds of protests are taking place across United States this weekend in opposition to the surge of immigrants illegally crossing the country’s southern border and proposed immigration reform that organizers say gives amnesty to those already living illegal in the United States. Organizers say 321 protests will take place over the next two days -- from state capitals to highway overpasses to Mexican consulates. The protests have been sparked by the thousands of Central American immigrants who in the past few weeks have entered the United States illegally in hopes of staying. “We know that 12,000 people expected to attend nearly 300

Dear Reader (including the president of the United States whenever he gets to this after dealing with many important fundraisers), If you’ve been reading my stuff over the years, you’ll find a number of common themes (“And recycled jokes. That was the basic idea behind The Tyranny of Clichés. Conservatives argue as conservatives. Beirut - Militant group Islamic State killed 270 soldiers, guards and staff when they captured a Syrian gas field on Thursday in the bloodiest clash yet between the al-Qaida offshoot and President Bashar Assad´s forces, a monitoring group said on Saturday. The anti-Assad Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Thursday that 90 people had been killed and that many were missing after the attack against the Sha´ar gas field east of Homs in central Syria. But on Saturday, the Observatory, which monitors violence in Syria through a network of sources in the country on both sides, quoted "trusted sources" as saying that the Islamic State

Alicia weaves through El Alto´s stalled traffic under a blazing sun, hawking colourful woven flowers to grumpy drivers and lovers. Congress approved the legislation early this month, and Vice President Alvaro Garcia signed it into law on Thursday in the absence of President Evo Morales, who was travelling. The bill´s sponsors say lowering the minimum work age from 14 simply acknowledges a reality: many poor families in Bolivia have no other choice than for their kids to work. In March I received a call from the White House counsel’s office regarding a speech I had prepared for my boss at the State Department. The speech was about the impact that the disclosure of National Security Agency surveillance practices would have on U.S. Internet freedom policies. The draft stated that “if U.S. citizens disagree with congressional and executive branch determinations about the proper scope of signals intelligence activities, they have the opportunity to change the policy through our democratic process.” But the White House counsel’s office told me that no, that wasn’t true. It is at times like these, when he is pushed kicking and screaming into the crucible, that Obama’s callowness shows. For his supporters, that jejune, jocular air has been a plus for almost six years. For the rest of us, it has served as a liability and an irritation. Yesterday, it became a wholesale embarrassment. On the perpetual-campaign trail, the pattern is familiar. Trotting up to the podium, the president fist-bumps the audience’s stragglers and smiles a toothy and humble grin at those who catch his eye.
