IDF ground forces began to move into the Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, the prime minister´s office confirmed. The purpose of the operation was to destroy the Gazan terror tunnels leading to Israel, according to a statement released by the prime minister´s office. "Israel is committed to act to protect its citizens. The operation will continue until its goals are reached: To bring quiet to the citizens of Israel for a long period of time, and to seriously harm Hamas and other terrorist organizations´ infrastructure in the Gaza Strip," the statement read. International pressure and the USA, specifically, forced Israelis to give up Gaza to the terrorists. Israel predicted the terrorists would use Gaza as a launch pad for rocket attacks on Israel.

I don´t think Netanyahu wanted a ground attack, but political pressure inside of Israel forced it. Hamas has to be crippled at a minimum. That´s not a criticism of Netanyahu. I believe he loves the IDF and wants to keep their casualties as low as possible. An invasion will mean dead soldiers.

Why Lena Dunham’s
NYT mag cover is all wrong
New York Post, by Robert Rorke    Original Article
Posted By: LittleHoodedMonk- 9/12/2014 8:13:32 PM     Post Reply
The image I have of “Girls” star Lena Dunham, judging by last season’s episodes of the HBO series, is that of a girl riding a bicycle in the Hamptons in a two-piece bathing suit that is two sizes too small. Exposing her body in all of its glory is part of the Dunham hard-sell — you either buy into her “freedom at any cost” philosophy, or you don’t. How curious, then, that the New York Times, in choosing Dunham for the cover of its Culture Issue, on sale this Sunday, decided to photograph her as a piece of neoclassical art. The photographer, Victoria Diehl, modeled the Dunham portrait on a bust of Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix

Dallas - Good coaches are also teachers, and Tricia Roos is a good coach. The Bishop Lynch volleyball team has won three state championships in her seven years as head coach. This season should be particularly special, not only because Bishop Lynch is trying to win its third state title in a row, but also because Coach Roos is five-and-a-half months pregnant. But what should be a time of joy has become, as she puts it, "a teaching moment." (Snip) Coach Roos´ baby has trisomy 18, a chromosome disorder so bad that doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy. Roos chose to keep her baby.

Australia raises terror alert level to ´high´

Australia has raised its terror alert level to "high" for the first time since the national alert system was introduced in 2003. According to the four-level system, a reading of "high" means a terrorist attack "is likely," however the country´s Prime Minister Tony Abbott said no specific threat had been made. "This does not mean a terror attack is imminent, we have no specific intelligence of particular plots. What we do have is intelligence that there are people with the intent and capability to mount attacks," Abbott said at a press conference in Canberra on Friday.

A Democratic election year push to amend the Constitution and roll back campaign-spending free speech rights ran out of steam Thursday and fell victim to a Senate filibuster. Holding the vote, even in defeat, was a major political goal for Democrats during the two-week session of Congress. The amendment Democratic leaders proposed would have given Congress and state legislatures the ability to set “reasonable” limits on how much

A man jumped the perimeter fence of the White House on Thursday, jangling nerves on the 13th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The White House complex, as is standard procedure in such incidents — which are common — was locked down and people were prevented from entering and leaving the grounds. US President Barack Obama was not at home at the time because he was taking part in an event elsewhere in Washington to mark the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic."
