International pressure and the USA, specifically, forced Israelis to give up Gaza to the terrorists. Israel predicted the terrorists would use Gaza as a launch pad for rocket attacks on Israel.

I don´t think Netanyahu wanted a ground attack, but political pressure inside of Israel forced it. Hamas has to be crippled at a minimum. That´s not a criticism of Netanyahu. I believe he loves the IDF and wants to keep their casualties as low as possible. An invasion will mean dead soldiers.

Hillary Clinton called President Barack Obama on Tuesday to “make sure he knows that nothing she said was an attempt to attack him” when she recently discussed her views on foreign policy in an interview with The Atlantic, according to a statement from a Clinton spokesman. The statement comes amid tension between the Clinton and Obama camps in the wake of the interview. Geneva - The World Health Organization authorised Tuesday the use of experimental drugs to fight Ebola as the death toll topped 1,000 and a Spanish priest became the first European to succumb to the latest outbreak. The declaration by the UN´s health agency came after a US company that makes an experimental serum called ZMapp said it had sent all its available supplies to hard-hit west Africa. "In the special circumstances of this Ebola outbreak it is ethical to offer unregistered interventions as potential treatments or prevention," WHO assistant director general Marie-Paule Kieny told reporters in Geneva, following a meeting

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday finalized a $26-million legal settlement to end a lawsuit over a ban on lunchtime naps by trash-truck drivers. The expenditure, approved on a 9-2 vote, resolves a class-action lawsuit involving nearly 1,100 sanitation workers who said they were improperly barred from sleeping and engaging in other activities during their meal breaks. The Times reported in February that the council had endorsed the settlement. Councilman Paul Krekorian, who supported the payment, said the settlement was not publicly announced earlier this year because it was not final and needed the approval of a judge.

Baghdad - After two days of defiant speeches and special security units deployed in the Iraqi capital, raising the specter of a coup, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki appeared to back away on Tuesday from his implied threat to use force to stay in power, issuing a statement saying that the army should stay out of politics. Mr. Maliki had reacted angrily on Monday to the Iraqi president’s decision to nominate a different Shiite political figure to be prime minister in his place. He had decried the step as unconstitutional, threatened court action and complained that the United States was scheming to oust him. But he appeared to soften his

RAF Tornado aircraft have left the UK for Cyprus from where they will support efforts to deliver aid to refugees trapped on mountains in northern Iraq. The jets will carry out surveillance ahead of further airdrops as the UN warned tens of thousands were trapped. A "small number" of Chinook helicopters would also be sent for "further relief options", the Foreign Office said. It comes as Islamic State (IS) fighters seized areas of Iraq, with reports of the slaughter of religious minorities. Among those reportedly being targeted by the jihadists are Iraqi Christians and members of the Yazidi religious sect.

Since June those diplomats have quietly supported a member of Maliki’s own political party to be the next prime minister. The Obama administration broke the law when it released thousands of illegal immigrants, more than 600 of whom had criminal records, last February as a result of poor planning and micromanagement from Washington, according to an internal audit released Tuesday that says things have not improved in the 18 months since. The president who spent years touting the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq suddenly has had to distance himself from that action. At the White House on Saturday morning — less than 48 hours after authorizing airstrikes against Islamist militants and humanitarian air drops to save the lives of trapped Iraqi civilians — President Obama blamed his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the absence of American troops in Iraq and rejected the assertion that he could have left a small peacekeeping force in the war-torn nation. President Obama must really be teed off. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his once-loyal secretary of state and his likeliest successor, has gone rogue, criticizing his foreign policy as too timid.
