Putin Criticizes U.S. Over New Sanctions
New York Times, by David M. Herszenhorn

MOSCOW — Responding to a new round of economic sanctions by the United States, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia lashed out late Wednesday against what he called America’s “aggressive foreign policy,” which he said had caused havoc in the Middle East, and accused the United States of pushing the Ukrainian government to continue fighting rather than encouraging peace. (Snip) “I have already said they tend to have a boomerang effect, and without any doubt, in this case they are driving Russian-American relations to an impasse, causing very serious damage,” Mr. Putin said, according to a Kremlin transcript. “And I

Let´s hear it for the Obama/Clinton "smart power" and "reset".

Didn´t an Obama spokesperson try to tell us this week, “There have been a number of situations in which you’ve seen this administration intervene in a meaningful way that has … substantially improved the — you know, the tranquility of the — global community."

Yeah, right.

America’s two great political parties are constantly transforming themselves, sometimes in small increments, sometimes in sudden lurches. They respond to cues sent to them by voters — which can range from attaboy! to fuhggedaboutit — and to the initiatives of party leaders, especially presidents. But when the other party has held the White House for an extended period, the transformation process can be stormy and chaotic. Which is a pretty apt description of the Republican Party over the past few years. Its two living ex-presidents, the George Bushes, withdrew from active politics immediately after leaving the White House, and its

Within a few days, the Gallup Poll and the Battleground Poll provided more polling data that demonstrates just how much conservatives outnumber liberals in America. The Gallup Poll, in its August 26 “State by State: Key Metrics for 2014,” provided data that reveals that in all but three states – Hawaii, Vermont, and Massachusetts – conservatives outnumber liberals. This is consistent with all prior Gallup Poll results for many years. In a few of these polls, conservatives have outnumbered liberals in every state of the nation, and in a few of these polls, liberals outnumber conservatives in one or two

The headline on Drudge was “TODD MAKES OBAMA SQUIRM,” but Mediaite columnist Joe Concha told MediaBuzz’s Howard Kurtz that Chuck Todd missed some crucial opportunities to challenge President Barack Obama during his inaugural interview on Meet the Press Sunday morning, and wondered whether Todd was too much of a “wonk” to reach the lay viewer. “When talking about going golfing fifteen minutes after making the announcement around Jim Foley’s beheading, the president said with a straight face, ‘the theater of the presidency doesn’t come naturally to me.’ That’s where Chuck just shook his head and allowed the president to go

The British government on Sunday pledged greater fiscal autonomy for Scotland, after a poll put the pro-independence camp ahead for the first time ahead of the September 18 referendum on separation. British finance minister George Osborne said greater tax and spending powers would be announced in the coming days, to be legislated for immediately if Scotland votes to retain the 300-year-old union with England. The offer came after a YouGov poll in The Sunday Times newspaper gave the pro-independence "Yes" camp 51 percent support compared to the "No" camp´s 49 percent, excluding undecided voters. The storied political talk show -- the first of its kind, it provided the template for so many that followed -- looked and felt a bit different with Todd in the chair and a panoply of executives behind the camera. They are determined to revitalize "Meet the Press" following the awkward departure of David Gregory.
