The Malaysia Airlines passenger jet carrying 295 people that was reportedly shot down in Ukraine Thursday is the third plane to be downed in the country this week, according to Ukrainian officials. Here is a quick breakdown of the three incidents: On Monday, a Ukrainian AN-26 military transport was shot down in the separatist stronghold of Luhansk on the Russian border, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletei. Heletei told Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenk the plane was "hit by another, more powerful missile that was probably used from the territory of the Russian Federation," the Ukrinform news agency said, citing the

Amid much uncertainty, one thing is certain:

President F.M. Davis, Jr. (no relation to Sammy!) identifies much more closely with the beliefs and aspirations of the missile-launching, barbarian savages than he identifies with the beliefs and aspirations of the 23 Americans said to be aboard the plane.

That´s right, #5. The Malaysian plane was shot down.

I just wonder how many cyber security experts were on board this plane.

Not good. Only positive thing here is that they know where this Malaysian plane is. Only question now is, was it a Putie screwup or do we have more to now worry about when flying internationally.

I have to ask because I haven´t read how anyone who doesn´t have an axe to grind knows that the plane was shot down. How do they know it wasn´t blown up internally while in flight.

Not trying to suggest I know anything, but that is the second Malaysian flight that has gone down, the other one in the water. It isn´t safe in Zippy world.

There are a lot of people right now who have had their lives destroyed. Not just the passengers and crew.

Accidental shoot down by Russian separatists in Ukraine. Meant to hit a Ukraine military plane. Apparently chatter about it at the time.

It seems certain that flying over the area is not wise. Nothing else is clear.

Can we believe any sources about this conflict. The reader´s usual dilemma about wars; some reports are true, some not.

Thousands, tens of thousands, of small ground-to-air missiles exist. And each year more groups manage to get some.

Jeff Bell was a reform conservative before it was cool. He’s spent his career arguing with a risk-averse Republican establishment. He pushed Ronald Reagan to embrace the supply-side doctrine of tax cuts before deficit reduction. He spent the 1990s warning the GOP that its tax policy favored investment capital over human capital, corporate interests over working families. He designed a family-friendly flat tax that reduced payroll taxes, increased the child tax credit, taxed capital gains and regular income at the same rate, and ended business expensing. Payroll tax relief and a generous child tax credit are elements of today’s reform

On Thursday, NBC News sources confirmed that Chuck Todd will bump David Gregory from the Meet the Press host chair. And while Todd isn’t as liberal as his predecessor, he has played defense for the Barack Obama administration on a number of fronts. Most recently he dismissed the IRS-Tea Party scandal by asking “are there any actual real victims?” and diminished Benghazi hearings as “partisan.” The NBC News chief White House correspondent also claimed Benghazi figure Susan Rice was simply a “victim” of conservative media but in the past compared Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin to a “car-wreck.” (videos after

Very few individuals who were not politicians or generals have had a major impact on American political history. Phyllis Schlafly is one of the exceptions. Twice. In 1964, she helped launch the grass-roots conservative movement that flourishes today, transformed by the internet, and in 1972 she inaugurated what came to be called “social conservatism.” More than any other individual, she was responsible for the nomination of Barry Goldwater, and thus, indirectly, Ronald Reagan. And virtually single-handedly, she defeated the so-called Equal Rights Amendment. Schlafly was born 90 years ago today in St. Louis, the daughter of John and Odile Stewart.

Federal law and Senate rules require expenses to be split between campaign and Senate accounts when campaign functions overlap with official business. CNN: Under federal law and Senate rules, the cost of a trip that includes official and campaign stops must often be prorated between Senate and campaign accounts. However, if the campaign activity is “incidental” to the official trip, the expense doesn’t need to be split up.

A Travis County grand jury today indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two charges related to his effort last year to force District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign after her drunken driving arrest. Grand jurors charged Perry, 63, with abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony, and coercion of a public official. The indictments stemmed from Perry’s threat last summer to withhold $7.2 million in state money from Lehmberg’s office unless she step down – a threat he later carried out by vetoing an appropriation in the state budget. The money was earmarked for the state’s Public Integrity Unit, which is housed in Lehmberg’s office. Perry’s veto forced

Brown´s family is accusing police of trying to draw attention away from the shooting.

Perry wanted Lehmberg to resign because she had been busted for drunk driving.
