Congress nears an impasse
on immigration crisis

CBS News, by Rebecca Kaplan

Original Article

With House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., shooting down a bipartisan bill to address the crisis of unaccompanied children crossing the southern border Wednesday, it looks increasingly likely Congress might wind up at an impasse just before their five-week summer recess. Until now, Pelosi had said that potential changes to a 2008 law that prevents speedy deportations of unaccompanied children from countries other than Mexico and Canada was not a "deal breaker" for Democrats. That´s what two Texas lawmakers, Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, are aiming to do with their bill that would mandate the same

That bill if passed will do nothing to stop the invasion by illegal aliens. We all know that obama will obstruct the implementation of any speed up in deportations. The bill is just to give cover to Congress that they have done something about the "border crisis". My guess is that if the bill is passed deportations will actually decrease because the foolish American public will believe the law will be enforced and that will be the end of story. The msm will help bury that fact.

#1, I believe that the Dems and Obama are desperate to get this mess out of the news. Obviously, Nancy Pelosi has another mission and who knows what that might be. If the bill can be passed, Obama will sign it. He´ll frown and complain, but he´ll be very glad to get it on his desk.

The PR damage to the Democrats is done, however. They´re not going to be able to get the "war on women" back on front pages and the airwaves.

A Nevada rancher warned local law enforcement officials on Wednesday to uphold their oaths of office or face the consequences of a people forced to “defend [their] God-given rights," an ominous message that comes just months after the same rancher led an armed protest against federal agents. “While the [Bureau of Land Management] was willing to shoot my family over land and power, we were willing to die for our families, our livelihoods and our constitutional rights. You should have been defending these rights for us,” rancher Cliven Bundy´s son, Ammon, said in a statement addressed to Clark County Sheriff Doug

Arun Singhal has claimed to be a victim of the "Sandwich Mafia." Singhal is a former owner of a Subway franchise in Australia, and as he tells the story, he was punished by his corporate bosses after taking issue with the "six grams of fat or less" claim Subway puts on their menus and in advertising. Singhal, who had invested $350,000 into the Subway location, claims that a Subway leasing manager approached him about exchanging his space for a "new busier location." Instead, Singhal closed his old shop, but was left with nothing but a $350,000 loss and a lot of

Russian strategic nuclear bombers conducted at least 16 incursions into northwestern U.S. air defense identification zones over the past 10 days, an unusually sharp increase in aerial penetrations, according to U.S. defense officials. The numerous flight encounters by Tu-95 Russian Bear H bombers prompted the scrambling of U.S. jet fighters on several occasions, and come amid heightened U.S.-Russia tensions over Ukraine. Also, during one bomber incursion near Alaska, a Russian intelligence-gathering jet was detected along with the bombers. “Over the past week, NORAD has visually identified Russian aircraft operating in and around the U.S. air defense identification zones,” said Maj. Democrats Have a White Working Class

Whenever elections approach, there is always a flurry of concern among Democrats regarding the white working class. Despite a steady and gradual decline in its size over the last several decades, this group remains a substantial percentage of the electorate; even relatively small decreases in its support for Democrats can mean defeat to Republican opponents. On a national level, if white working class support falls even 1 or 2 percent below the 36 percent that Obama received from them in 2012, the party´s 2016 nominee will be in serious trouble. In this year’s election cycle, the discussion about white working

Why do human beings

Since it is 100 years ago this week that Britain entered the first world war – and at the moment the world seems to be especially ridden with conflict – it’s an opportune moment to reflect on why human beings seem to be unable to stop fighting wars. In most cases wars are initiated by governments, not by populations. And, most of the time, they are the result of disputes over resources and land, or of a government’s desire to increase its influence and power. However, looking back over the history of warfare, what is most striking is how willing most

WASHINGTON – Now that the ObamaCare exchange websites are largely up and running, federal health officials are finding themselves swamped as they fact-check a flood of paperwork from applicants seeking taxpayer subsidies. The department, which oversees the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, has gotten hit by audits showing it hasn´t done enough to crack down on fraudsters trying to scam the system. At the same time, some frustrated applicants say they have played by the rules -- signed up on

A 2,100-year-old mausoleum built for a king named Liu Fei has been discovered in modern-day Xuyi County in Jiangsu, China, archaeologists report. Liu Fei died in 128 B.C. during the 26th year of his rule over a kingdom named Jiangdu, which was part of the Chinese empire. Although the mausoleum had been plundered, archaeologists found that it still contained more than 10,000 artifacts, including treasures made of gold, silver, bronze, jade and lacquer. They also found several life-size chariot and dozens of smaller chariots. Excavated between 2009 and 2011, the mausoleum contains "three main tombs, 11 attendant tombs, two chariot-and-horse pits, two weaponry

The accusations are ominous. Russia has fired weapons into Ukraine and boosted the number of troops near the border, officials have told CNN. And the Kremlin is staging a new round of military exercises this week. Western leaders stepped up sanctions, but Russian President Vladimir Putin shows no sign of backing down. What´s his endgame? "He´s got lots of options here, and he´s playing it," retired Gen. Wesley Clark told CNN this week. "He´s like someone fumbling with a lock, trying to find the right key to open the door." Here´s a look at several goals Putin could have in mind:

Since my Sunday column was a little on the shrill side, accusing President Obama of contemplating domestic policy “caesarism” on immigration policy, I thought I’d do a follow-up addressing the various, “maybe you should calm down” objections. 1) How can you accuse the president of planning a power grab when we don’t even know what he’s planning to do? Well, actually, we do know roughly what he’s considering, because White House sources keep telling the media about it. Read National Journal’s Major Garrett a month ago, or read the Washington Post on Saturday. The message is clear, the details consistent: Obama is

President Obama gave a press conference this evening. He started a little over an hour late without explanation. Reporters stuck to asking questions that they evidently knew Obama would be comfortable answering. None of them asked him about any of his administration scandals. ABC’s Jon Karl, usually a tough questioner of Obama and his spokesmen, asked a rambling question that played right into the Democrats’ “economic patriotism” canard. Despite the fact that the president showed a passionless, bloodless, disinterested face to the world, he still managed to do some damage. Chris Jansing of CNN asked Obama if the sanctions against Russia are working.

Sen. Pat Roberts fended off an aggressive challenger Tuesday in the Kansas Republican primary, dealing another blow to a national tea party movement that has targeted longtime Washington incumbents. Milton Wolf, 43, a Leawood radiologist making his first run for public office, failed to pull the upset in the race against Roberts, 78, whose political dates to the late 1960s, when he was a congressional aide. After surviving the primary, Roberts is a huge favorite to win his fourth, six-year term in November. Republicans enjoy a nearly 20 percentage-point advantage among registered voters and have won every U.S. Senate race

Dozens of government watchdogs are sounding the alarm that the Obama administration is stonewalling them, in what is being described as an unprecedented challenge to the agencies they´re supposed to oversee. Forty-seven of the government´s 73 independent watchdogs known as inspectors general voiced their complaints in a letter to congressional leaders this week. They accused several major agencies -- the Justice Department, the Peace Corps and the chemical safety board -- of imposing "serious limitations on access to records." The inspectors general are now appealing to Congress to help them do their jobs uncovering waste, fraud, and mismanagement.
