Alleged Mexican Drug Cartel Thugs
Accused of Kidnapping American ´Courier´

ABC News, by Jack Cloherty

A kidnapping and ransom case in the Carolinas suggests just how active Mexican drug cartels have become in the U.S. Today, authorities identified three purported members of a Mexican drug cartel as the alleged kidnappers of a South Carolina man last week, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District of Court of South Carolina. The American hostage, who authorities said was drug courier for the cartel, apparently was kidnapped on July 9 and held for ransom, with demands for as much as $400,000 coming from unknown cartel members in Mexico. After nearly a week in captivity, the hostage was found chained

Thanks for posting, OP. My only source of local news is the P&C online and I don´t remember seeing anything about this incident.

I wouldn´t be at all surprised to find out that the Raleigh-Durham area is seething with drug cartel members; the percentage of illegals in the Triangle escalated from negligible to huge in about five years and must be much worse by now. (We moved to the Charleston area about 12 years ago.)

Everything is upside down! We go to these lengths to save a drug "courier" dealer BUT we can´t save a US Vet held in a Mexican jail for making a wrong turn into mexico with guns in his car.

Forty years ago, a relatively unknown youngster had fought his way to a slight advantage over former Nevada Gov. Paul Laxalt. But the challenger felt he needed a coup de grâce, so he raised questions about Laxalt´s family finances, wondering about the provenance and propriety of certain funds. Laxalt responded by putting his sister out front to explain how she had lived her life with a vow of poverty: She was a nun. The outrage was palpable; Laxalt was elected by 624 votes. The loser in that 1974 race was 34-year-old Harry Reid, whose putative killer instinct had killed the messenger (i.e. himself),

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York - Track announcer Tom Durkin has no idea how many time´s he uttered three little words: "And they´re off!" But the phrase has been the opening refrain in a 40-year career, and the soundtrack to horse racing´s biggest moments, like the 1998 duel that cost Real Quiet the Triple Crown. "Victor Gallop - one final surge," he bellowed during the famous nail-biter. "It´s too close to call!!" He has called races for four decades. Now, at 63, he´s calling an end to the career he has loved. "This is my particular passion, describing the races, the competition" Durkin said.

HOLLYWOOD, California—Picture a movie theater, packed for the opening night of a blockbuster film. Hundreds of strangers sit next to each other, transfixed. They tend to blink at the same time. Even their brain activity is, to a remarkable degree, synchronized. It’s a slightly creepy thought. It’s also a testament to the captivating power of cinema, says Uri Hasson, a psychologist at Princeton University. At a recent event hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Hasson presented his research into what happens inside people’s brains when they watch movies. His work got a receptive but somewhat wary reaction

The convicted shooter in the Fort Hood massacre has written a letter to the leader of the Islamic State saying he wants to become a "citizen" of the caliphate, in the latest example of the terror group´s reach inside the U.S. The letter from Nidal Hasan, obtained by Fox News, comes after two Americans reportedly died fighting for ISIS in Syria. Sources late Wednesday identified the second as Abdirahmaan Muhumed, of Minneapolis. Fox affiliate KMSP-TV in Minneapolis reported that Muhumed was killed in the same battle as Douglas McArthur McCain, who grew up outside Minneapolis in the town of New Hope

Convoys of Mexican federal police and immigration service employees in southern Mexico have begun scouring the tracks of the infamous freight train known as "La Bestia," or The Beast, hauling migrants from the rail cars and sending them to deportation centers. A company behind the video messaging service that allegedly captured audio of Michael Brown´s shooting this month said Thursday the recording was created at about the time Brown was killed. The revelation from the company, Glide, appears to bolster a man´s claim that he inadvertently recorded audio of gunfire at the time the 18-year-old Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer on August 9. The video was created at 12:02:14 p.m. that day, Glide said. That´s around the time that police say Brown was shot. CNN cannot independently verify the authenticity of the tape. A fascinating little paper from the Brookings Institution looking at different ways of measuring poverty and then using these different methods to compare US to the accepted global standards used to describe poverty. The end result of all of this is that if we measure poverty in the US the same way that the World Bank does for the world then there’s actually no poor people at all inside the United States. That War on Poverty has been fought and we who would aid the poor won. It should be said though that the definitions of poverty used are not

For more than 24-hours, CNN has been regularly playing a clip of audio which purports to reveal the exact moment when 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot by Officer Darren Wilson. Each time it was played, the CNN anchors and hosts noted that the sound could not be independently verified by the network, but it was just too good to wait to play it for viewers. CNN’s ratings have been phenomenal since the violence in Ferguson erupted, and the network has displayed a tendency in the past to latch onto any development no matter how dubious that keeps a ratings-grabbing story alive.

It’s not a “new” treaty, apparently, if they’re rewriting an old treaty that’s already been ratified. Maybe that’s a sneak peek of Obama’s Syria policy too. Instead of asking for a new AUMF against ISIS, he could issue an “addendum” or whatever to the 2001 AUMF against Al Qaeda. Come to think of it, that’s his approach on immigration too. The mega-amnesty he’s getting ready to uncork isn’t being presented as new policy, even though it would legalize five million people or more. It’s being presented as a discretionary application of law that’s already on the books. Turns out every

So why does it take a whopper of a story to get the media to pay attention? Burger King, as you know, is moving to buy the Canadian chain Tim Hortons, and this is more about dollars than doughnuts. The hamburger giant plans to move its headquarters to Canada, thereby slashing its Treasury tax bill. The White House doesn’t like it. Democrats don’t like it. The Republicans don’t like it. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.— Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist continued his political comeback Tuesday as Democratic voters selected him as their nominee to challenge Republican Gov. Rick Scott in Florida, one of four states where voters were choosing candidates for statewide office. Crist easily defeated former state Sen. Both have struggled with sagging approval ratings and run-ins with conservatives. “It’s a wonderful night,” Crist declared after accepting a concession call from Rich. What NHTSA is proposing could begin a transformation in the American transportation system that makes our lives better and freer — or gives government more power over where we go and when. In announcing its proposed rulemaking, NHTSA is stressing its intention to protect the "privacy" of American drivers. "This document initiates rulemaking that would propose to create a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, FMVSS No. 150, to require vehicle-to-vehicle communication capability for light vehicles,"
