Overwhelmed feds putting illegal
immigrant children at risk

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

While much of the focus in the illegal immigrant surge has been on border security, the federal government does a poor job of ensuring relatives who claim children who enter the U.S. illegally are giving them the care they need, according to internal audits that suggest problems remain despite years of warnings. The Obama administration says its priority is to make sure the children get a fair hearing and protections to which they are entitled — but the recent surge has so overwhelmed officials that they are cutting corners in background checks, meaning some children are turned over to parents

Fair ? Fair is how Americans should be treated, not illegals.

Isn´t this an illegal invasion of our border ?

America’s resumption of ‘the long war’

As the United States pivots back to the Middle East — in belated recognition that its enemies never pivoted from their intention to establish a territorial expression of radical Islamism — President Obama is more likely to change his policy than to change his rhetoric. We are more likely, in other words, to see “boots on the ground” in Iraq (already more than 1,000 troops are in supportive roles) than we are to hear an admission that the administration’s foreign policy approach has shifted. Obama now wants to “degrade” the Islamic State’s capabilities, “shrink” its territory, and ultimately “defeat ’em.”

BAGHDAD — Under huge international and domestic pressure, Iraq swore in a new government on Monday, opening the way for an expansion of U.S. military support to fight Islamic extremists in the country. The vote to approve a new cabinet came during a fiery late-night parliamentary session. Key positions, including those of the defense and security chiefs, were left open amid controversy over who would fill them. Now confirmed as prime minister, Haider al-Abadi said he would name candidates for those positions within a week. The new lineup meets U.S. demands for an inclusive government involving disenfranchised

George W. Bush offered Bill Clinton some grandparenting advice during a friendly discussion Monday about their partnership for a new scholars program. Speaking at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., Mr. Bush told his predecessor to get ready to be “like, the lowest person in the pecking order in your family,” Politico reported. “Be prepared to fall completely in love again,” he said. “You’re not going to believe it. DENVER — Sen. Mark Udall, Colorado Democrat, apologized Monday after saying that two U.S. journalists beheaded by Islamic State terrorists would not have wanted Americans to be “impulsive” in their reaction. Mr. Udall’s comment, which drew heated criticism Monday on social media and from Republicans, came during a non-televised Senate debate with Republican Rep. Cory Gardner, sponsored by Club 20 in Grand Junction. “I can tell you that Steve Sotloff and James Foley would tell us, ‘Don’t be impulsive,’” Mr. Udall said at the debate. “Horrible and barbarous as those executions were, don’t be impulsive,

Obama immigration delay means
60,000 to be deported by November
Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan    Original Article

Nearly 60,000 immigrants will be deported before November elections if the government holds its pace, and many of them might have earned tentative legal status had President Obama taken unilateral action to halt deportations. Mr. Obama’s decision to put off any action until after midterm elections, which the White House leaked Saturday hours before he announced it himself in an interview with NBC, was mocked by Republicans and enraged immigrant rights groups, who said they felt betrayed after throwing their support to the president in the 2012 election. In the near term, it could help several vulnerable Senate Democrats who

President Obama appeared on Meet the Press this morning with new host Chuck Todd. The conversation focused primarily on ISIS, Iraq and Syria. Much could be said about Obama’s comments, but what struck me most was how disassociated from reality Obama appears to be–both when he defends his own record, and when he talks about foreign policy. Obama repeated the spin, first floated by White House spokesman Josh Earnest, that when he talked dismissively of “jayvee” terrorist groups he wasn’t referring to ISIS: CHUCK TODD: Long way, long way from when you described them as a JV team. Immigrant-rights groups reacted furiously Saturday after the White House made clear President Obama will not take unilateral action on immigration before November’s elections, nodding at the political realities of the issue as he punted on the key policy questions. With a number of key Senate races in GOP-leaning states, Democrats had feared that action now would anger voters and cost them control of the upper chamber, and had privately begged the White House to hold off on any move to halt deportations. But immigration activists said it’s the latest in a series of moves by Mr. Obama to shove their

Unless bundled cable providers find a way to move their racket online, the demographic reality of younger people moving online looms as an existential threat to the most lucrative business in entertainment and the news media. In just four years the median age of the average television viewer jumped a whopping 6% to 44.4 years old. Six-percent is not a gradual jump. That´s a leap -- even over 4 years. The four major broadcast networks are in even worse shape. The average age of the NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX viewer is 53.9 year-old, a 7% jump in four years.

Bill O’Reilly came under criticism from the Obama administration this week for stating that Jen Psaki, spokesperson for the State Department, “looks way out of her depth” and that “just the way she delivers, she doesn’t look like she has the gravitas for the job.” The criticism was delivered by Psaki’s deputy, Marie Harf, who claimed that O’Reilly’s comments are sexist because she doesn’t “actually [doesn´t] think [he] would ever use [those words] about a man.” O’Reilly’s actions are “not ok,” Harf lectured. Harf, who makes Psaki look intellectually hefty, should think again. O’Reilly has used similar words to disparage

At his first press briefing after the beheading of American James Foley, President Obama stunned the assembled when he admitted that he had no strategy for confronting ISIS, a.k.a. the Islamic State, in Syria. Yet it was not nearly the most egregious, or consequential, thing he said. Idiotic, yes. You’re the leader of the free world. Even if you don’t have a strategy — indeed, especially if you don’t — you never admit it publicly. However, if Obama is indeed building a larger strategy, an air campaign coordinated with allies on the ground, this does take time. George W. Bush

State Department spokesman Jen Psaki makes me psick. If you read P.G. Wodehouse, you know the “P” in her name is silent, as in “phthisis,” “psychic” and “ptarmigan” (as Wodehouse’s Psmith explains). And Psaki’s colleague Marie Harf makes me barf. Together Psaki and Harf give the catastrophic foreign policy of the Obama administration a lighter than air, Valley Girl kind of feel. It’s a novel use of expressive form. Paul Mirengoff explores their weightlessness in the adjacent post. In a few days president Obama will unveil his strategy to destroy ISIS to a waiting public. (Snip) However the basic outlines of the strategy itself have emerged from information already available to the press. A Los Angeles Times story suggests that Obama will rely on proxies to fight ISIS at three levels: on the ground, within the region and in the West. Kerry invokes comparisons to the Sunni Awakening, seeking to recall the days when al-Qaeda in Iraq was beaten by George Bush. Obama plans to organize the Sunni Arabs to fight ISIS.

The Obama administration will make a decision on executive action to prevent corporations from leaving the country in the "very near future," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said Monday morning. Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough. Inversions are tax maneuvers in which corporations buy firms in low-tax countries in order to place their headquarters in that country. Such deals have grown in number in recent months, with

Churchill came under intense scrutiny and was fired by the University of Colorado at Boulder. What concerned Kelly most in the first part of the interview was that “little Eichmanns” comment, the argument being that Eichmann played a role in horrible atrocities even though he didn’t directly carry out the Final Solution, which he views as similar to the financial
