Australia kills off carbon tax
Guardian [UK], by Lenore Taylor

Original Article

Australia’s carbon price has been repealed, leaving the nation with no legislated policy to achieve even the minimum 5% greenhouse emissions reduction target it has inscribed in international agreements. After eight years of bitter political debate, during which climate policy dominated three election campaigns and contributed to the demise of two prime ministers, after last week’s Senate drama in which the repeal was again defeated and this week’s lengthy last gasp debate, the Senate has now finally voted to make good Tony Abbott’s “pledge in blood” to “axe the tax”. The government was backed by seven of the new crossbench senators,

Abbott is a conservative Christian conviction politician.
He is saving Australia from the leftist loons.
Former PM Rudd flew into Copenhagen with a retinue of over 135 Global warming loons - just when the data and scientific fraud from the CRU in East Anglia and Penn States Michael Mann was exposed on a Russian server.
Great job for PM Abbot and his supporters.
Between Canada´s Harper and Australia´s Abbott - there is hope for the Anglosphere.

FTA...“I believe there is climate change happening, I just don’t believe we are going to change it with a broad-based consumption tax.”

"Climate change" is debatable. The Algore´s of the world would have you believe that it is settled fact without dispute. They ridicule anyone who would offer a challenge thinking that will make them wilt in silence.

This is ALL about taxing and spending and finding a way to get money to give away. We are going to need more tax money to pay for all the welfare of the new illegals invading the country.

It’s often been observed that a certain type of British Lefty hates Britain – and that they reserve particularly hatred for Englishness. Back in 1941 George Orwell made this acute remark: England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution. So what’s new? The difference today is that this shame and self-hatred now dominates Left-wing thought, whereas it was once balanced by the decent

Ukip are set to win their first Commons seat with a landslide 64 per cent of the vote following the biggest swing in modern political history. Turncoat MP Douglas Carswell is set to humiliate David Cameron at the Clacton by-election sparked by his defection, a Survation poll for The Mail on Sunday has revealed. The figures – the first test of public opinion since the politician rocked Westminster by defecting to Nigel Farage’s party – predict a record 48 point swing towards Ukip. And they put the anti-Brussels party a staggering 44 percentage points ahead of Mr Carswell’s former party

A violent father-of-two escaped deportation moments before being put on a plane to Jamaica – by suddenly declaring he was homosexual. Alvin Brissett, 55, was ordered to be sent back to his Jamaican homeland after building up a long criminal record including thefts, drug possession, and assaults. Yet at the last moment, while he was in handcuffs in a van at Gatwick airport, he announced that he was gay and claimed he could not be sent to Jamaica because he could face discrimination there. This claim halted his deportation in its tracks. And even though a hearing subsequently ruled it

Baton Rouge, LA — The private fund-raiser at the Louisiana Lagniappe, one of Baton Rouge’s finer eateries, seems a typically polite affair. Crab cakes and smoked salmon; jackets but no ties. You wouldn’t guess the people inside were plotting an urban remapping campaign that critics are calling a betrayal of 50 years of civil rights progress. Fortunate residents of this the relatively prosperous southern section of a city that is otherwise blighted by poverty, violence and a failing public school system, they are demanding the right to break away from it and forge a whole new city of their own.

Pressure continues to mount on Mayor Bill de Blasio, who took office less than a year ago on a promise to nudge New York City back towards its more egalitarian roots, to put an end to the so-called “poor doors” built into new residential buildings, which segregate rich owners from their not-so-rich renting neighbours. This will be the arrangement at 40 Riverside Boulevard, a new development on the Upper West Side which is part luxury apartments with price tags rising to $20 million, and part affordable housing units that will rent for as little as $850 a month.

The cracking sounds were ferocious. An ankle-deep, frozen lake in Death Valley National Park was breaking apart under sunny skies. As cousins Richard Norris and James Norris watched, a light wind began moving huge floes of ice across the surface of the water and into rocks weighing up to 200 pounds. Propelled by the ice masses, the rocks began to slide across the slick, muddy bottom of the normally dry lake bed, known as the Racetrack playa. France´s new government was dealt an early blow on Wednesday after a key gauge showed business optimism deteriorated in August. French factory confidence fell to its lowest level in more than a year in August, adding to signs that the economy may struggle to grow after a stagnant first half. A slump in retail trade also dragged down overall business optimism. INSEE, France´s statistics office, said manufacturing sentiment dipped to 96 in August, from 97 in July. This was its lowest level in 13 months, and well below the long-run average of 100. The overall index slipped to 91 in

During the Great Depression, the Communist scribes at the Daily Worker were forever assuring the more skeptical among their colleagues that the heroic spark was near. Having read about a “small riot somewhere in rural Minnesota,” Whittaker Chambers recorded in Witness, Robert Minor started shouting about “the beginning of the American revolution.” If the paper wished to capitalize upon dissatisfaction and spin it into insurrection and change, Minor proposed, it would need the staff to keep an eye out for the tell-tale sign and, then, to “play it up big.” Over the past month, the events in Ferguson, Mo., have played

It will take two decades to rebuild the thousands of houses destroyed during Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to a recent NGO report. At least 17,000 homes were obliterated or severely damaged during the conflict, with thousands more needing substantial repairs, according to an assessment by Shelter Cluster. More than 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed during the conflict. In addition 71 Israelis were killed – all but six of them soldiers. But the report on Gaza’s housing stock indicates inhabitants of the densely populated strip will face a severe infrastructural burden over the coming years.
