No-Op

The decision of a court to hold the Dutch state liable for the death of 300 Muslim Bosnians in the Srebrenica massacre marks the first time a UN mission has been blamed for doing nothing. It threatens to unravel the whole system of UN peacekeeping. (Snip) The UN is the planet’s leading supplier of no-ops, whose function is to mimic action while doing nothing at all. Assigning problems to the UN permits the international community to put an international crisis on ice until it falls of the front pages and is forgotten. The no-op is widely known in American political

Comments:
"No-op" sounds like some thing Obama would cotton to. It´s right up his alley, so to speak. the UN Blue Helmet Brigade is there for the show and for the rapes they can commit. If they fire any shots, those will be fired into the indigenous female population they´re supposed to be protecting. The UN bureaucracy makes our own snoring federal contingent look like models of industry by comparison.

A world system this deeply cynical and self-serving simply cannot survive forever. Sooner or later, something will impact it and its hollowness will cause it to collapse. I am beginning to wonder if militant Islam is not that crushing force...

McDonald’s has a problem. For the first time in 10 years, the company generated less revenue in a month than it did a year before, and it’s not a blip. The world’s biggest burger chain has been posting lagging results for some time, particularly in the United States. Blake Casper says he has a very good idea why. “Companies like Chipotle are doing a great job talking to people about healthy food, and they’re changing the dynamic of how people eat,” said Casper, who owns Tampa Bay’s largest McDonald’s franchise group with his sister Allison Casper Adams. “We embrace that

Here in America and elsewhere around the world, Greens continue to war against any energy other than the useless “renewable” kind, wind and solar, that is more costly and next to useless. Only coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear keeps the modern and developing world functioning and growing. The most publicized aspect is Obama’s “War on Coal” and, thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency, it has been successful; responsible for shutting down several hundred coal-fired plants by issuing costly regulations based on the utterly false claim that carbon dioxide emissions must be reduced to save the Earth from “global warming.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Laura Myers managed to get a look at the highly confidential contract that Ms. Hillary requires for her overpriced speaking engagements secured through the offices of the Harry Walker Agency. Myers reports: "[Hillary Clinton] will get $225,000 to speak at the annual dinner [of the UNLV Foundation]. The size of Hillary Clinton’s fee has come under fire from critics who question the large expense in an era when students are hard-pressed to cover tuition and leave school saddled with massive debt. But Clinton’s $225,000 is something of a cut-rate. Documents obtained by the newspaper show that

The statement of the convenience store owner allegedly robbed by Michael Brown seemed almost straight out of a 1950s TV show. The owner, of subcontinental or Middle Eastern appearance on the robbery surveillance tape, issued a statement to the public through his lawyers. Leave me out of it. We’ve seen this exact scenario play out numerous times, most visibly in 2012 when the DOJ wanted to keep the FBI reports on the lack of racial animus -which supported George Zimmerman- from the public. Under Eric Holder’s tenure the DOJ civil rights division has actively engaged in pushing racial grievances to the forefront of their operational goals. This type of intentional organizational racism even led to the former head of the Civil Rights Division, Ondray Harris, quitting his federal job after he was instructed not to hire non-blacks. I first heard "How Deep Is the Ocean" as a child, when my mother used to sing it to me as a bedtime lullaby. By morning, the mood was different. My family lived in the Roxbury area of Boston, near the Franklin Park Zoo, so I awoke to the sound of roaring lions. "How Deep Is the Ocean" [by Irving Berlin] is an unusual love song. All of the lyrics are posed as questions, except for "I´ll tell you no lie." Each question conveys emotional intensity—-whether posed from parent to child or between two lovers: "How far would I travel,

TAMPA — Charlie Crist’s School Bus Tour may violate state law on use of school buses. Crist just finished a three-day tour on education spending, travelling in a bright yellow school bus with campaign staff and reporters. He hoped to emphasize education as an issue in the race with Gov. Rick Scott — an issue where he believes he has an advantage over Scott. The tour included small rallies and news conferences in seven cities where he bashed Scott for education cuts, arriving each time in the bus. The apparent snag is Chapter 316.72 of the Florida Statutes, which says

It is almost 200 years later, and the issue of race still disturbs America’s peace as nothing else can. When police in Ferguson, Missouri, shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown on Saturday, it set off rioting and protesting that continued well into the next week. Rioters have hurled bottles and molotov cocktails at police and fired on helicopters, and the

Less than 48 hours ago, it appeared virtually certain that the United States would have little choice but to intervene militarily in Iraq on a scale that President Obama clearly wanted to avoid. That all changed overnight when American officials reported the thousands of Yazidis, a minority religious sect fleeing persecution by the advancing Islamist extremists rampaging through Iraq, had been safely removed from their vulnerable haven on Mount Sinjar. Yazidi leaders and some emergency relief officials dispute that assessment. In any event, it does appear American airstrikes — and the dropping of relief supplies — paired with ground attacks

They say a prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and this always seemed like hyperbole, until Friday night a Texas grand jury announced an indictment of governor Rick Perry. The “crime” for which Perry faces a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison is vetoing funding for a state agency. The conventions of reporting — which treat the fact of an indictment as the primary news, and its merit as a secondary analytic question — make it difficult for people reading the news to grasp just how farfetched this indictment is. The Obama administration has done little to calm racial tensions as they spread from Manhattan to St. Louis to Los Angeles. Quite the opposite, some top officials have fueled African-American fears of racism with false accusations of anti-black discrimination. Attorney General Eric Holder’s race-baiting is no secret. Justice Department documents show the nation’s top cop gave thousands of dollars to help the Rev. Al Sharpton organize marches protesting the death of Trayvon Martin. The scandal that erupted Friday night involved millions of dollars, statehouse power plays—oh yeah, and alcohol, police, and masks. Texas Governor Rick Perry was indicted Friday on charges of abuse of power—a first degree felony—and coercion—a third degree felony. The charges stem from a 2013 scandal that has been quietly rumbling in the Lone Star State as Perry has been floated as a viable contender for the Republican nomination in 2016. This is a complex case, which might be why it has not made national headlines the way other recent, state-level scandals (like Bridgegate, in New Jersey) have. Below, I have outlined

Fallon also said that the Department of Justice will still take into account the state-performed autopsy during its civil rights investigation of Brown´s murder. Last week, Holder announced the federal probe following protests and outrage over the murder of the unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri. A grand jury in Travis County, Texas, indicted Governor Rick Perry today. Why? For exercising his constitutional prerogative by threatening to veto, and then vetoing, an appropriation to support the public corruption unit in Travis County’s district attorney’s office. This followed the arrest of the county’s district attorney, Democratic Party activist Rosemary Lehmberg, for drunk driving, after she was found “with an open bottle of vodka in the front passenger seat of her car in a church parking lot in Austin.” Ms. Lehmberg served 45 days in jail. The Travis County district attorney’s office has long been a cesspool of corruption.
