Newest Obama Admin Mandate:
Corporate Tax Patriotism

Legal Insurrection, by Bruce Carroll

First it was Vice President Joe Biden who said paying higher taxes was “patriotic.” Now, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has resurrected the taxes-as-patriotism meme for the Obama White House. Secretary Lew used the phrase “economic patriotism” this morning on his interview on CNBC to discuss the Administration’s new plans to regulate the corporate marketplace. “Congress should enact legislation immediately,” Lew told a business conference in New York hosted by cable television channel CNBC. “We should have some economic patriotism here.” Lew’s remarks came amid a wave of corporate deals known as inversions, in which a U.S. company shifts its tax home base to

How about some government employee patriotism? They could give back some benefits and 20% of their salaries. They could move full retirement up to 35 years. Or union patriotism? They could give back their padded medical care benefits and take 20% pay cuts to make them on a par with private employees. This is the type of leadership we need from the democratic party -- leading by example.

I´m sure the Apples, Googles, all the Hollywood actors and actresses that have incorporated as well as the the big Producers and studios, all of them will be lining up to follow their elected leader down this wonderful socialist path. Can´t wait to see how fast they leave Ireland for U.S. tax nirvana.

We pay some of the highest taxes in the world and are the only country that taxes income earned overseas by individuals. Soon patriotism will mean US citizens will not be allowed to leave the US without permission and heavy fees.

The Africa summit is officially underway, which means one very important thing for the District: The first lady of Cameroon’s hair is here. Chantal Biya has single-handedly made mullet the new magnificent. Biya’s bouffant is a beauty school master’s thesis in contradictions. Somehow her hair manages to be short and long, rebellious yet elegant, unruly but controlled. And whether she’s visiting the pope or hanging out with Paris Hilton, the 43-year-old’s signature style remains unfazed. Here we humbly submit just a small sampling of the many coifs of Chantal. Washingtonians should expect to see each and every one around town this week.

An experimental serum given to Christian aid workers infected with the deadly Ebola virus was manufactured by a San Diego pharmaceutical firm using plants, the company and U.S. health authorities disclosed Monday. As Dr. Kent Brantly fights for his life in a special containment unit at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, and missionary Nancy Writebol prepares to be evacuated from Liberia on Tuesday, details began to emerge about a mysterious treatment they were given shortly after they became infected. Three top secret, experimental vials stored at subzero temperatures were flown into Liberia last week in a last-ditch effort to save two American missionary workers who had contracted Ebola, according to a source familiar with details of the treatment. On July 22, Dr. Kent Brantly woke up feeling feverish. Fearing the worst, Brantly immediately isolated himself. Nancy Writebol´s symptoms started three days later. Nobody could explain why black Americans, particularly black gay men, had such high rates of HIV infection compared to the rest of the population. How were they putting themselves in so much danger? What were they doing differently from everyone else? Millett began with a survey of the published research, but that only seemed to raise more questions. Study after study seemed to arrive at the same conclusion: Black gay men take fewer risks in the

Obamacare plans have shrunk payments to physicians so much that some doctors say they won’t be able to afford to accept Obamacare coverage, NPR reports. Many of the eight million sign-ups in Obamacare exchanges nationwide already face more limited choices for physicians and hospitals than those in the private insurance market. But with low physician reimbursement rates, the problem could get even worse. For a typical quick patient visit, Dr. Doug Gerard, a Connecticut internist, told NPR a private insurer would pay $100 while Medicare would pay around $80. But Obamacare plans are more likely to pay closer to $80, which Gerard
