Right and left finally agree:
Obama has checked out

WASHINGTON – Has President Barack Obama “checked out”? It’s one thing if hardened critics like Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly ask whether the Obama presidency is “imploding,” as she did last month , citing a string of foreign policy debacles and domestic scandals. Or if Republican lobbyist Ed Rogers says Obama “seems to have taken something like an early retirement,” as he did in his Washington Post blog earlier this month, finding that the president’s recent speeches reveal “a state of mind that suggests he has checked out.” It is another, however, if the chief U.S. commentator for the Financial Times,

It´s too kind to accuse him of checking out, because he is doing significant damage to the country and the rest of the civilized world that depends on America for the stability we have all enjoyed since WW2.

I´ll bet he is doing it on purpose.

Airstrikes in Syria against the extremist Khorasan group were prompted by planning for an “imminent” terror attack on U.S. soil, the Pentagon said. (Snip) Amid attention on the threat from Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, Khorasan has emerged in recent weeks as a more immediate peril in the view of the U.S. intelligence community because it’s more focused on attacking America and Europe. The militant group is made up of a “network of seasoned al-Qaeda veterans” preparing to attack “United States and Western interests,” the Defense Department said in a statement. As many as 500,000 people could be infected with Ebola virus disease by the end of January, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. The CDC estimate, due to be released this week, is based on “dynamic modeling” and assumes no additional aid to help battle the disease, a person familiar with the report told the Washington Post. Infectious-disease experts, aid workers and global health advocates said the number of Ebola cases is increasing much more rapidly than the World Health Organization, or WHO, had projected, especially in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, collectively the

On Sunday, a gaggle of queer folks will be joining the “People’s Climate March,” a rally in New York City projected to attract more than 100,000 attendees. Unfortunately, those who could help the cause the most are the least likely to show up. Marching under banners such as “Queers for the Climate,” LGBT climate activists are, first and foremost, agitating for action on climate change. But they are also saying something about what LGBT activism should be about, and saying something quite different from the (current) gay mainstream. The question is whether they can make an impact. Istanbul -- The latest ISIS advance in Syria has brought a swath of the country´s north-central Kurdish region under siege, with Kurdish leaders warning of another humanitarian crisis without international intervention. The town was already mostly blockaded by ISIS, but in the past three days some 60 nearby villages fell under ISIS control, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. So much for all that outrage. Nearly 90 percent of Americans say the recent outcry about domestic violence in the NFL hasn’t changed how much professional football they watch — and less than a third of the nation believes NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should resign. That’s the result of an exclusive NBC News/Marist poll, which also finds that a majority of Americans – including nearly six in 10 self-described football fans – say they disapprove of the way the NFL has handled the domestic-violence allegations. The 48-40 Gardner lead among likely voters in The Quinnipiac University Poll contrasts with two other independent polls released earlier this month that found Udall tied or slightly ahead in the race. It is from the same pollster that found Democratic Gov. One has to wonder just how often members of President Barack Obama´s national security team talk with each other. The federal government is famously gigantic, but the president´s Cabinet is not, particularly if you narrow it to the inner circle that crafts military and national security strategy. One would assume that it wouldn´t be all that difficult to prepare a coherent approach to an international crisis, particularly as Cabinet members testify before Congress amidst deep skepticism of the White House´s strategy to destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, or in the administration´s preferred acronym, ISIL). President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. His quasi-saluting gesture was an instant embarrassment for the White House, and not because his environmentally taboo drinkware clashed with the green-policy speech he was on his way to deliver at a UN Climate Summit. On Tuesday, shortly after announcing to the American public that the United States was now bombing ISIS in Syria, the President of the United States flew to New York to address the United Nations – on climate change. His speech mixed high-flown sentiment with apologies for America, and pledged American sacrifice in the name of a lofty goal without evidence that such sacrifice would in any way contribute to attaining that goal. In other words, it was a typical Barack Obama whirligig. Even as American warplanes struck targets in Syria, even as regimes tottered in Jordan and Iraq and Yemen,

President Obama on Wednesday delivered a speech at the United Nations filled with his usual soaring rhetoric of global collectivism and the importance of “international norms.” But the president also displayed a shocking naivete about global affairs, religion, Islam — a Pollyannaish interpretation on the state of the world and America’s role in it. Although Mr. Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize just eight months into office, the president made his annual trip to the ineffectual world council to deliver a call to war. “Ladies and gentlemen, we come together at a crossroads between war and peace,

So this video of The View’s women grappling with the Obama administration’s response to ISIS terrorism is noteworthy. I want to highlight O’Donnell’s contribution near the end: We are bombing Syria because Syria has so much oil, so there is a “financial incentive.” What the Hell is this supposed to mean? Why are liberals obsessed with oil? And what, exactly, is the “financial incentive?” Here is the

One of them—the last—was less good, given he had gone MIA for the better part of three weeks and I had a sneaking suspicion he had a girlfriend. We hadn’t slept together, but the kisses had been the type of kisses you walk away from with shaky knees and blind hope. There was something there, and we both knew it, which is why we are attempting to hash things out over the phone at some ungodly hour.
