Murdoch Reportedly Offered $80 Billion
for Time Warner, Was Turned Down

Mediaite, by Evan McMurry

The rumors that Rupert Murdoch was interested in purchasing Time Warner gained some shape and form Wednesday morning, as the New York Times reported that sources said Murdoch made an $80 billion offer for the TV-cable-film-magazine conglomerate, only to be rebuffed. Fox approached Time Warner in June and offered to pay $85 a share on Time Warner stock; the combined company would be worth about $65 billion in revenue. Per the Times, Murdoch is especially interested in Time Warner’s broadcast rights to sport events like basketball and baseball games, to help grow Fox’s sports footprint. Murdoch’s offer would also have

The Time Warner stockholders have legal standing to sue the board of directors if a takeover bid was rejected.

If the court finds the board rejected a valid offer, the board would become personally liable for the cost to the shareholders of their lost stock value.

The offer, more specifically, is $80 billion, 80,000 FBI emails and the frothing of potential UK corporate charges.

Not as clean as the earlier posters state.

If true, the stockholders won´t be happy. I know I wouldn´t. Hope they skin the board members alive (legally speaking, of course).

Hillary Clinton alienates liberals with
harsh critique of Obama foreign policy

Hillary Rodham Clinton hugged out her differences with President Obama on Wednesday night, but she may need to save some of that affection for disenchanted liberals who fear the Democratic party’s 2016 front-runner is acting more like a thinly veiled neoconservative. After her harsh critique of Mr. Obama’s foreign policy in an interview published last week, the two talked by phone Tuesday and met in person Wednesday at a private party on Martha’s Vineyard. The White House said the president and first lady “were happy to have the chance to spend time” with Mrs. Clinton.

There are some nonviolent Palestinians, but they get crowded out by Hamas—and the Israelis, who aren’t exactly nonviolent either. For my entire adult life I’ve heard this same question time and time again: “Why isn’t there a Palestinian Martin Luther King?” Or in the alternative: “Why isn’t there a Palestinian Gandhi?” Some have posed this with the sincere intention of being helpful. Others have raised it more as a way to further their own narrative that all Palestinians are violent. Regardless of the questioner’s motivation, it’s worth asking: could a Palestinian Dr. King actually lead Palestinians to the “promised land”? Or is

According to a statement released by his wife Thursday, late comedian Robin Williams was in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease at the time of his suspected suicide earlier this week. Williams’ wife Susan Schneider said Williams was sober at the time, but that he had continued to tackle depression. She said he was not ready yet to publicly disclose his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Parkinson’s is a progressive nervous disorder that limits movement; while treatable, no cure is known. Schneider’s full statement is below:

Relations between Israel and the US are so bad now that the Obama administration has seen fit to tighten its control over wartime weapons shipments, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday morning. According to the report, citing unnamed senior officials, the White house had requested that the Pentagon put on hold a shipment of ´Hellfire´ missiles Israel had requested and instructed them to "consult with policy makers at the White House and the State Department before approving any additional requests." According to the report, the key moment took place when the administration learned that the US had released tank and

Throughout 2011 and well into 2012, President Obama’s White House barred Hillary Clinton’s State Department from even talking directly to the moderate Syrian rebels. This was only one of several ways the Obama team kept the Clinton team from doing more in Syria, back before the revolution was hijacked by ISIS and spread into Iraq. The policy feud has flared up again in recent weeks, with Clinton decrying Obama’s Syria policy, Obama’s inner circle hitting back, and the president himself calling criticism of his Syria moves “horseshit.” Obama and his former secretary of state promised to patch things up at a

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell argued Hillary Clinton would have a better working relationship than President Obama with the Israelis due to her being “uncategorically supportive” of Israel. “One of the things that was really overlooked in Hillary Clinton’s interview with Jeff Goldberg is that she disagreed with President Obama on Iran, on the Iran negotiations, and on Israel. If you read what she said about Israel, she is uncategorically supportive of Israel in ways this president is not,” Mitchell said on Morning Joe. The Obama-Netanyahu relationship has been tumultuous over the president’s time in office. On Wednesday the Wall Street Journal described a recent

Of course, there are only a few spots open per semester, but we have great news: A Weinstein Company internship is being auctioned off for just five figures. The internship is being sold on a website called Charitybuzz, and the auction’s open

Solving a 2014 Obamacare problem

The Obama administration’s effort to end one political crisis during the 2014 Obamacare rollout may have sown the seeds of another controversy: potential double-digit rate hikes in 2015. If insurers have their way, some residents in politically key states like Florida, North Carolina and Iowa would face hikes of 11 percent to nearly 18 percent — far beyond the average 7.5 percent increase in proposed rates for much of the country. Major carriers there in part blame such increases on the administration’s response to the furor that erupted when millions of Americans received notice last fall that their health policies would

A young physicist arriving at the site is introduced to the project as being ´Shangri-La´ and having the ´highest combined IQ than any town in the country, and more Jews in Babylon." When it comes to science, it is no secret that most believe that Jews are overwhelmingly intelligent. The president is expected to return to the White House on Sunday, but officials won´t say why Obama is taking the unusual, and costly, trip back to Washington. He´s expected to return to Martha´s Vineyard, where he´s been vacationing, on Tuesday. Speculation has circled around whether Obama might make an announcement of executive actions he´s taking on immigration reform, or a surprise visit from a foreign leader. A Travis County grand jury today indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two charges related to his effort last year to force District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign after her drunken driving arrest. Grand jurors charged Perry, 63, with abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony, and coercion of a public official. The indictments stemmed from Perry’s threat last summer to withhold $7.2 million in state money from Lehmberg’s office unless she step down – a threat he later carried out by vetoing an appropriation in the state budget. The money was earmarked for the state’s Public Integrity Unit, which is housed in Lehmberg’s office. Perry’s veto forced

FERGUSON, Mo. — The friend who was with Michael Brown when he was shot and killed by a police officer near St. Louis over the weekend is reportedly confirming that he and Brown had taken part in the theft of cigars from a convenience store that day. That word comes from the attorney for Dorian Johnson, speaking to MSNBC. Police in Ferguson had earlier announced that Brown was suspected of taking cigars from the convenience store in what was described as a "strong-arm robbery." Brown´s family is accusing police of trying to draw attention away from the shooting.

This is ridiculous. AUSTIN (KXAN) – A grand jury has handed up an indictment against Gov. Rick Perry in connection with the investigation into an effort to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign. Perry wanted Lehmberg to resign because she had been busted for drunk driving. It’s not good to have a drunk driver, captured on camera abusing the officers who arrested her, heading up the Public Integrity Unit. At the center of the issue is a complaint about intimidation stemming from Perry’s threat to veto of $7.5 million in state funding to the Public Integrity Unit

A grand jury in Travis County, Texas, indicted Governor Rick Perry today. Why? For exercising his constitutional prerogative by threatening to veto, and then vetoing, an appropriation to support the public corruption unit in Travis County’s district attorney’s office. This followed the arrest of the county’s district attorney, Democratic Party activist Rosemary Lehmberg, for drunk driving, after she was found “with an open bottle of vodka in the front passenger seat of her car in a church parking lot in Austin.” Ms. Lehmberg served 45 days in jail. The Travis County district attorney’s office has long been a cesspool of corruption.

The scandal that erupted Friday night involved millions of dollars, statehouse power plays—oh yeah, and alcohol, police, and masks. Texas Governor Rick Perry was indicted Friday on charges of abuse of power—a first degree felony—and coercion—a third degree felony. The charges stem from a 2013 scandal that has been quietly rumbling in the Lone Star State as Perry has been floated as a viable contender for the Republican nomination in 2016. This is a complex case, which might be why it has not made national headlines the way other recent, state-level scandals (like Bridgegate, in New Jersey) have. Below, I have outlined
