What’s behind the ongoing violence in Gaza
New York Post, by John Podhoretz

Original Article

The differences between Hamas and Israel are so profound, it’s almost as though the two aren’t living in the same century. The Hamas war against Israel pits cheap rockets — basically the 21st-century version of an exploding cannonball — against a high-tech military so sophisticated, it can send harmless “door-knocking” bombs to land on the roofs of buildings to warn its targets inside that the next live bomb will level the place. (snip) Israel is a First World country with First World problems. Gaza is a 65-year-old refugee camp run by vicious terrorists who can’t shoot straight — and even

When you have a rubber band and 6 paper clips and you´re looking at a fully equipped well trained infantryman with air cover your best plan of action is probably ... office work.

Spengler made an interesting point about this yesterday. He said that Palestinian "culture" if you can call it that, is dying. It is played out, exhausted, and has lost the will to live. It seeks out death. The only think it wants is to kill Israel while it dies. That is why there can be no peace in the middle east.

Malaysia Airlines crash:

In its efforts to cover the Malaysia Airlines crash today, MSNBC stumbled. In this case, the enormity of the stumble can’t possibly be described, abridged, short-handed or whatever. Just read the transcript of the video above. The awfulness occurs as MSNBC host Krystal Ball takes a phone call from an alleged “eyewitness” to the crash: Ball: Let’s turn now to an MSNBC exclusive. U.S. Staff Sgt. Michael Boyd is at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and says that he saw a missile in the air hit the plane. He is on the phone with us. Sergeant, are you there? Boyd: Yes, I’m here, can you hear me? Ball: I can, please tell us what you saw there on

President Barack Obama was on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin when news of the Malaysian Airlines plane crash broke Thursday, but the White House won´t say whether the president learned of the incident from his counterpart in Moscow or by other means. According to a press pool report by Washington Post reporter Juliet Eilperin, White House press secretary Joshua Earnest informed reporters traveling with the president in Delaware that "the first public reports of the downed passenger jet were published during the phone call between President Obama and President Putin." "As I said earlier, President Putin mentioned

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power posted photos on Twitter Wednesday to illustrate the purported effects of climate change on a West African nation’s coastline, but the pictures show a hotel that collapsed into the sea 12 years ago, the victim of erosion blamed largely on years of illegal mining of coastal sand. “Had sobering meeting with Benin’s U.N. Ambassador, who described the devastating effects of climate change on his coastal country,” she tweeted. “Showed me chilling photos of eroding coastline, said ‘that’s climate change – a daily life of falling in the sea.’”

It´s time to stop running away from the nation´s troubles. The woman from Honduras was tiny and extremely pregnant. “When are you due?” asked Sister Norma Pimentel, the director of Catholic Charities in the Rio Grande Valley. “Ya,” the woman replied in Spanish: “Already”–she was past due. She had left Honduras to save her daughter, who is 12–peak poaching age for the killer gangs that are wreaking havoc in that country these days. “A man came into our house and tried to kill my girl with a machete,” the woman said. “I stopped him.” She showed Sister Norma her right

The World Health Organization is reporting that the rate of HIV infection among young gays is growing so rapidly the agency is recommending for the first time that men who have sex with men take anti-viral drugs as a preventative. Gay men in their twenties are too young to remember the panic in the gay community when HIV/AIDs was first discovered in the 1980s. With the advent of anti-viral drugs that make HIV, at least until the disease mutates, chronic but manageable, young men may be taking more chances sexually. Couple that with the general belief among all young men

After President Barack Obama breathlessly addressed four different foreign-policy issues during a 10-minute statement, he summed up the state of a crisis-filled world in one sentence. "We live in a complex world and at a challenging time," Obama said. Obama touched on the laundry list of global flashpoints situations during a statement from the White House on Wednesday — the disputed elections in Afghanistan, the negotiations on Iran´s nuclear program, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and, finally, the conflict in Ukraine. The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those
