University of Arkansas library administrators were in contact with Clinton Foundation officials the same day the university rushed to take action against the Washington Free Beacon for publishing recordings of Hillary Clinton discussing her 1975 defense of a child rapist, according to internal emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. Administrators scrambled to “get the lawyers involved” to draft a “cease and desist” letter to the Free Beacon the morning after the “Hillary Tapes” report, and over a week before the university admitted it did not actually own the copyright for the recordings. Additional emails revealed that other media outlets had previously

For me, watching the Food Network was always an easy escape from the stresses of daily life. There was just something calming about watching chefs in action, and this network had perfected Zen cooking. They’d often use a natural-light filter that made food appear delectable, as if the chefs were blissfully cooking their culinary delights in the sunlit designer kitchen of a tastefully decorated, impeccable home somewhere in the Hamptons. (Well, with Ina Garten, that actually is the case.) I’ve never been anywhere near a sunlit designer kitchen in the Hamptons, but I still found it all oddly soothing. I’d

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Summit earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry had a bit of astonishing advice for African leaders. While noting that Africa faces a starvation problem, he also admonished its leaders not to create more farms. The reason? Adding more farms would contribute to “global warming.” Yeah, he really said that: “Certain agricultural processes can actually release carbon pollution and actually contribute to the problem in the first place. It’s a twisted circle. Always complicated. But we also know that there are certain ways to change that. For example, rather than convert natural areas to new farmland, a process

An ill Navy skipper allegedly shirked his duties by holing up in his cabin on a San Diego-based cruiser for weeks on end — effectively leaving his crew leaderless. Capt. Gregory W. Gombert was also having an inappropriate relationship with the warship´s acting executive officer, Lt. Cmdr. Destiny Savage, according to a recent Navy investigation. The "unduly familiar" relationship disturbed much of the USS Cowpens´ 330-member crew, authorities said. The results of the investigation, which were reported in U-T San Diego, show that Gombert´s ailments should not have prevented him from leading the ship from early January until March. "The

GUATEMALA CITY — Guatemalan law enforcement officials, supported by U.S. agencies, arrested nine top members of an alleged "coyote" human smuggling organization and seized $600,000 held in U.S. banks. The arrests Wednesday were the first here of coyote leaders since Guatemala President Otto Perez Molina visited President Obama during a July 25 summit with Central American leaders that focused on the immigration crisis on the U.S. border with Mexico. The arrests provoked an outcry among some Guatemalans who see the coyotes — people paid to smuggle others into the United States — as trusted members of their community who provide a needed

Awful, predictable, and awfully predictable: Two illegal immigrants from Mexico who were charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent in front of his family in Texas have been arrested and deported numerous times, police sources told FoxNews.com. One suspect has been arrested no fewer than four times for entering the U.S. illegally, according to federal court records. The other has been deported twice after entering the U.S. illegally, sources said. Gustavo Tijerina, 30, and Ismael Hernandez, 40, were arraigned Tuesday afternoon inside the Willacy County jail library. They were ordered held without

Alumni from colleges around the country have their own little ways of remembering their university in a way that’s unique from other schools. From ‘Cuse (Syracuse University) to Mizzou (University of Missouri), university students and graduates can refer to their alma mater in a way which connotes affection. And that’s just what University of Mississippi students and alumni thought they were doing when they referred to their school as “Ole Miss.” But not so, according to a “very small percentage” of those with ties to the school – because they say the nickname associates the school with “negative race issues.” UM Chancellor Dan

Monkey business — or legitimate copyright claim? In Indonesia in 2011 a female crested black macaque hijacked the camera of British nature photographer David Slater and proceeded to snap hundreds of photos — among them several selfies, photos of himself, one of which made worldwide headlines and the animal’s Wikipedia page. Slater, citing royalty losses, has tried to have the photograph removed from the site. The Telegraph reports: The Gloucestershire-based photographer now claims that the decision is jeopardising his income as anyone can take the image and publish it for free, without having to pay him a royalty. Maybe there is a method to President Obama’s madness. Perhaps the reason he is encouraging all the silly talk about impeachment is to preemptively discredit his critics before he commits a clearly impeachable act. (Snip)I think Obama’s words and actions in recent years encouraged the race to the border. If he grants immunity to the massive influx of recent illegal immigrants, the race will become a stampede. If he does, in fact, toss away the Constitution to bless chaos at the border and send a signal to all comers that now is the time to break the law, then what

Remember the R2P Doctrine? The Obama administration, led by Samantha Power, justified Western intervention in Libya against Moammar Qaddafi in 2011 because of the global “responsibility to protect” civilians threatened by Qaddafi’s forces in Benghazi. As J. E. Dyer wrote in 2011, “by the R2P formulation, endangered civilian populations … trump sovereignty. … According to this text, it is indeed possible to bomb another country for three months without being in “hostilities.”” We deliberately decapitated the Qaddafi regime and turned Libya into the Somalia of the Mediterranean based on the supposed threat to civilians in eastern Libya, which in retrospect

President Obama, who ran for office on a platform of ending U.S. military hostilities in Iraq, said Thursday night that he had authorized ´targeted airstrikes if necessary´ in an effort to protect the delivery of humanitarian aid to threatened Iraqis, and to ensure the safety of US personnel delivering the assistance. ´We do whatever is necessary to protect our people. Peace has to start with Israeli and Palestinians leaders, namely Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, US President Barack Obama told the New York Times´ Foreign Affairs columnist Thomas Friedman. [Snip] Obama worried that Netanyahu´s high approval ratings--which have jumped in recent weeks in the wake of Israel´s month-long operation in Gaza--could prevent him from making the difficult concessions needed to reach a long-term deal: "If he doesn’t feel some internal pressure, then it’s hard to see him being able to make some very difficult compromises," like the issue of settlements, the president said.

PRESIDENT OBAMA was right to order military action to prevent a potential genocide in northern Iraq and to stop forces of the al-Qaeda-derived Islamic State from advancing on Baghdad or the Kurdish capital of Irbil. However, the steps the president authorized on Thursday amount to more of his administration’s half-measures, narrowly tailored to this week’s emergency and unconnected to any coherent strategy to address the conflagration spreading across the Middle East. While U.S. airstrikes and drops of supplies may prevent the terrorist forces from massacring the Yazidi sect or toppling the pro-Western regime in Kurdistan, Mr. Obama lacks a plausible

Political conservatives are the greatest threat to the nation, President Barack Obama suggested in a kid-glove interview with the New York Times. “The president mused, the biggest threat to America — the only force that can really weaken us — is us,” said the interviewer, Thomas Friedman. “Our politics are dysfunctional… societies don’t work if political factions take maximalist positions,” said Obama, who repeatedly claims to be a moderate stymied by the GOP’s supposed obstructionism and radicalism. “And the more diverse the country is, the less it can afford to take maximalist positions,” Obama added.
