Free Countries Mock Their Presidents
National Review Online, by Charles C.W. Cooke

Nineteen terrifying words from the Omaha World-Herald: The U.S. Department of Justice has joined the discussions over a controversial float in the Norfolk Independence Day parade. Thus did the federal government dispatch an emissary to investigate a minor instance of Midwestern dissent. A quick recap for the happily uninitiated: The “controversial float” in question was one of many included in this year’s Independence Day parade in Norfolk, Neb. The entry, which featured a zombie standing on an outhouse marked “Obama Presidential Library,” was created by a veteran named Dale Remmich, and was designed, Remmich claims, to express the “political disgust” that he feels

FTA: "There are few things more indicative of human liberty than the ability to castigate power with impunity — up to and including the moment of offense. “To learn who rules over you,” Voltaire suggested, “simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” Is Barack Obama to be a ruler?"

Remember, it all started with his big ears, his blue lips, then his name, what a cry baby.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s when making fun of the president was a staple in EVERY comedian´s act. I can´t help but notice that with very few exceptions the Precious Won is off limits to mockery.

Great article, lots of food for thought here. Even the Germans made fun of Hitler towards the end and the Russians have had their jokes, but now, in the previously freest country in the world, our Dear Leader´s minions are outraged over an outhouse joke. That´s a bit close to the Muslim outrage over the cartoon of Mohammed. Oh.

Can someone point out where in the list of possible violations of federal law that I´ll find "mocking" race (or sex or religion, I presume)? Those three are usually listed together.

If such does exist - perhaps the DOJ can dispatch an emissary to Oklahoma about the proposed Satanic black mass scheduled for December, and perhaps interview those who were involved in a similar activity a few months ago in Massachusetts. (That might be borderline "racist" mocking given the use of the word black.) /s

Eric Holder should be forced from office after sending personnel from the DOJ to investigate possible racism for the float in the parade. When will they come with guns and armor, a la Elian Gonzales, and arrest anyone who says something that might possibly be criticism of a president who thinks he is a totalitarian dictator.

Art takes many expressive forms and many interpretations. Perhaps the outhouse represents our national condition and Obama´s connection to our national condition is our collective mistake of being suckered by the pretender in chief.

For more expressive garden art I recommend one of those small statues of the little cherub peeing, mounted high enough so that a bust of Obama with a couple plastic flowers wrapped the "one´s" head can be continuously watered by the little cherub in the hope that the plastic flowers will not wilt. Here of course, the artistic symbolism is recycling at its best and not the more obvious which would be a waste of perfectly good urine.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been indicted for violating Texas Penal Code § 36.03, which provides: A person commits an offense if by means of coercion he … influences or attempts to influence a public servant in a specific exercise of his official power or a specific performance of his official duty or influences or attempts to influence a public servant to violate the public servant’s known legal duty …. (Gov. Perry was also indicted under another statute, which I won’t discuss in this post.) Texas Penal Code § 1.07 in turn defines “coercion” to mean, a threat, however communicated: (A) to commit an

One day earlier this week, the actor Jeff Bridges found himself sprinting through New York´s Central Park with his wife, Susan. The two had been taking a walk when they stopped to watch an acrobatic group. Without recognizing the actor, the performers grabbed his wife and pulled her into the ring for their next feat. Instead of standing by, Mr. Bridges yelled, "I´m a crazy white man, and I have an appointment, and I´m taking my girl with me!" Then he and his wife made a run for it. The conflict in eastern Ukraine is entering a new and highly dangerous phase. The Ukrainian army is poised for the final drive into Donetsk, the capital of Russian-backed separatists. A convoy of some 40 Russian vehicles, including two dozen armored personnel carriers and support trucks, was reported entering Ukrainian territory where it was shelled by Ukrainian artillery. The Ukrainian government says it destroyed several vehicles, and almost certainly there have been losses among Russian military personnel. Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, addressed Russian parliamentarians in Crimea, apparently assembled there to demonstrate that the Black Sea territory is Russian, period.

NBC News reports: U.S. Army Major General Harold Greene was buried today at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, including a caisson, two escort platoons, casket team, firing party, colors team, and a caparisoned horse. The U.S. Army band, “Pershing’s Own,” played softly as the funeral procession made its way down the long hill past the rows of simple white gravestones to bring General Greene to his final resting place. The graveside service began with a few words, followed by a 13-gun salute. The major general’s widow, Dr. Susan Myers, was seated in the front row. To her right

It may be the least of HealthCare.gov’s many, many problems, but the Obamacare website still features web pages full of nonsense filler language. The Weekly Standard located a series of pages on HealthCare.gov that feature ‘Lorem ipsum’ text, a dummy language used by graphic designers to hold a place until the information is ready. The website’s instructions on “How to appeal a Marketplace decision, directions for immigrants and, most ironically, “Why Health Coverage is Important” are filled with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” instead of any information on getting health coverage.

Planned Parenthood calls abortion “a difficult decision” in many of its consent forms and fact sheets. When NARAL launched a film on the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Lawmakers use the adjective, too. “It was a difficult, difficult decision, but it was the right one,” Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores said last month in defending her choice to have an abortion at age 16. In 2005, then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton described the decision to have an abortion as “one of the most fundamental, difficult

It was once said, during the time when Maine’s governor’s race was conducted almost two months earlier than the November presidential race, that “as Maine goes, so goes the nation.” Will that be the case this year with North Carolina? There is news this week that Democrats will invest a stunning $9.1 million to back first-term incumbent Senator Kay Hagan in North Carolina. Hagan is being challenged by Republican state House Speaker Thom Tillis. This occurs just after the latest Washington Post Election Lab survey rates Hagan’s chances of re-election at 99%. A Travis County grand jury today indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two charges related to his effort last year to force District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign after her drunken driving arrest. Grand jurors charged Perry, 63, with abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony, and coercion of a public official. The indictments stemmed from Perry’s threat last summer to withhold $7.2 million in state money from Lehmberg’s office unless she step down – a threat he later carried out by vetoing an appropriation in the state budget. The money was earmarked for the state’s Public Integrity Unit, which is housed in Lehmberg’s office. Perry’s veto forced

This is ridiculous. AUSTIN (KXAN) – A grand jury has handed up an indictment against Gov. Perry wanted Lehmberg to resign because she had been busted for drunk driving. A grand jury in Travis County, Texas, indicted Governor Rick Perry today. Why? For exercising his constitutional prerogative by threatening to veto, and then vetoing, an appropriation to support the public corruption unit in Travis County’s district attorney’s office. This followed the arrest of the county’s district attorney, Democratic Party activist Rosemary Lehmberg, for drunk driving, after she was found “with an open bottle of vodka in the front passenger seat of her car in a church parking lot in Austin.” Ms. Lehmberg served 45 days in jail. The Travis County district attorney’s office has long been a cesspool of corruption.
