Washington’s secret to staying relevant:
a little Botox here, a tuck there

Washington Post, by Roxanne Roberts

Summertime, and the living is easy: backyard barbecues, beach books, plastic surgery. It’s the worst-kept secret in Washington. Plenty of those glowing faces returning from vacation are the result of a doctor, not a few days off. Summer, especially in an election year, is prime time for nips, tucks and other cosmetic fine tuning. Not that anyone here admits it — in the magical world of politics, public officials and talking heads are genetically blessed with hair that never turns gray, baby-smooth foreheads and barely any wrinkles. And by plastic surgery (or Botox, laser treatments, body sculpting, dermal fillers, pick your poison), we’re

Dye, Botox and all the other nips and tucks don´t fool me a bit. Frankly, I have much more respect for people who grow old with grace and wisdom (which rules out almost all politicians)

The relevant question, in the case of politicians, is who is paying for it. As for Joe and Jill and Barry and Moo, I think we know, but I would not doubt other pols have found a way of expensing their mixups to us.

We have watched Nancy Pelosi´s serial face-ironings, Jean Fraud Kerry´s change from craggy to smooth and paralyzed, Mooch´s varying cheekbones, noses and so forth, and on and on. Peter King has had his eyes yanked up so much that he now resembles The Grinch.

Pelosi appears to have given up on her hair and her face. Jean Fraud´s fillers will melt away. Mooch will continue her drive to look like Beyonce. We´ll never forget her walking across the South Lawn, after returning from a "holiday" in Hawaii, doubled over - apparently in residual pain from some "body scupting" or other.

But they don´t fool us, so what´s the point?

Whoever was responsible for work on Jon Carry´s face to remove the long-faced Horse look has to be someone in training. Compare a before and after picture. His chin implants are over-done.

The reports I have read on Botox is that the injections can do harm to brain cells----Reid, Pelose and Jon F. Carry are prime examples of the damage it does.

When the public is more afraid of the cops than the bad guys, the system is broken. There’s reason for some law-abiding Americans to worry about their pocketbook becoming lighter after a visit from the lawman. Bonnie and Clyde never pretended to be anything but robbers. A 64-year-old Texas woman, for example, was accused of being a drug dealer simply because she was carrying cash in her pickup truck from the sale of her land. The cops took her money, though she had never been convicted of a crime in her life. She had to sue in federal court to get all of her money back. A family grocery store in Michigan was threatened by the IRS

A jury awards a woman $23 billion. The Constitution said nothing about this. Last week, a jury of her peers awarded a lone human, Cynthia Robinson, over $23.6 billion to punish a cigarette company for the death of her husband. And poof, they were no longer her peers—that is, unless they happened to be the only jury in history to be composed entirely of multi-billionaires. The rest of America—depending on its feelings about corporate malfeasance versus individual responsibility—was cornered into only one of two positions when it heard the exorbitant pile of punitive damages the defendant, RJ Reynolds, was told to pony

Garlock Sealing Technologies, founded in 1887, originally produced seals for rods in locomotive steam engines. Over the years, it used asbestos in gaskets and valves. When the age of asbestos lawsuits began, it was deluged with nearly a million claims. Although Garlock defended such cases for years -- at times successfully -- the company succumbed in 2010 and entered bankruptcy with 100,000 asbestos and 4,000 mesothelioma claims pending. Garlock´s products never represented a high-risk of asbestos exposure, as some others do. George Hodges, the federal judge presiding over the bankruptcy, noted that Garlock products “resulted in a relatively low exposure to

Next year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will decide whether or not to list the sage grouse as an endangered species. It has the potential to be a watershed moment, and not just for the bird, whose numbers have been in steady decline for a half-century. Wyoming’s economy is built on the sagebrush steppes sage grouse call home. Some 15.3 million acres, or 25 percent of the state, is considered important habitat for the bird. Ranchers rely on these windswept lands to graze their cattle. Oil, gas and mining companies drill holes in the dusty surface to access the rich treasure

Eating ice cream is the summer heat is one of life´s great feats, but is it really ice cream if it doesn’t melt? Christie Watson of Cincinnati had been treating her kids to ice cream sandwiches from Walmart but one morning she noticed an uneaten sandwich left outside had barely melted overnight in the 80 degree weather. "I thought that´s quite weird," Watson told local station WCPO 9. "So I looked at the box, and it doesn´t say artificial ice cream. It says ice cream." Perplexed, she shared her story and the station decided to conduct a little ice cream experiment. The station set

That journalist was Lucinda Franks and while her latest book, “Timeless: Love, Morgenthau, and Me,” doesn’t have much to do about the Clintons, the part that does offers never before reported information from a 1999 interview with the former First Lady. President Obama insists on flirting with impeachment even as House Republican leaders insist there’s no such possibility. Obama uses a passive-aggressive strategy that can be judged as a political maneuver, a personality disorder, or both. Secure in the knowledge that impeachment is not the same as removal from office, Mr. Obama brings up the topic on his own and with bold defiance. Martyrdom goes well with a Messiah complex and Mr. Obama’s speeches are a non-stop litany of depicting himself as a victim of Republicans. Already operating beyond the constitutional bounds of presidential power, Mr. Obama’s strategy is to push the bounds

President Obama appears poised to take executive action that would legalize as many as 5 million illegal immigrant parents of U.S.-born children, a prospect that riles local immigration critics and adds a new dimension to concern about swelling immigrant populations in states like Massachusetts eyed as hosting sites for thousands of children who crossed the border unaccompanied. The Associated Press reported yesterday White House officials are laying the groundwork for an executive order that would automatically legalize roughly 5 million of an estimated 11 million people who have entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas.

When The Times of Israel’s Avi Issacharoff first reported the content of John Kerry’s ceasefire proposal on Friday afternoon, I wondered if something had gotten lost in translation. It seemed inconceivable that the American secretary of state would have drafted an initiative that, as a priority, did not require the dismantling of Hamas’s rocket arsenal and network of tunnels dug under the Israeli border. Yet the reported text did not address these issues at all, nor call for the demilitarization of Gaza. It seemed inconceivable that the secretary’s initiative would specify the need to address Hamas’s demands for a lifting of
