Faraj al-Shibli, who was suspected of involvement in the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, has been found dead, a Libyan source and locals in the town of Marj said. Al-Shibli, whose name is also spelled Chalabi, was last seen being detained by a local militia in Marj two days ago, a Libyan source said. It is unclear what happened to al-Shibli since then, but his body was found Monday in the eastern Libyan town of Marj. Locals in Marj also confirmed that al-Shibli´s body was found Monday. When he first began adjusting to life as an amputee, Marine Staff Sgt. Liam Dwyer wanted nothing more than to get back to driving a stick shift. Dwyer’s most cherished possession was a souped-up Nissan 350Z, which he often drove in rally races and autocross events before his 2010 deployment to Afghanistan. But after an IED severed most of his left leg in May 2011, military doctors informed him that he would never again use a clutch, since he now lacked the ability to feel the pedal beneath a foot. The stubborn Dwyer vowed to prove that he could once

Remember back when Democrat Charlie Crist was a Republican running for governor in 2006? He called himself a "Jeb Bush Republican" at the time. There´s a reason for it. Bush helped build the GOP, first in Miami-Dade and then in Florida where he was the first Republican governor in the modern era to serve with a Republican-held House and Senate. Also, unlike Crist and Scott, Bush is an off-the-cuff quote-machine who likes to joust with reporters about policy and politics. The other two guys (Scott more so) are and/or were nothing like Bush as governor. Expect a good dose of Crist-bashing from

The Crisis in Ferguson

Since Robert Draper’s provocative New York Times piece posed the question, national pundits have been consumed by whether the country is experiencing a “libertarian moment.” Their answers have varied, largely based on what they think about libertarianism themselves. If anywhere in America could use a libertarian moment, it is Ferguson, Missouri. That’s where Michael Brown, an eighteen-year-old, unarmed black man, was shot to death by the police. Since then, all hell has broken loose. The police claim Brown was going for the officer’s gun. One eyewitness said all Brown did was instinctively pull away when the officer grabbed him by the throat.

This week, the Heartland Institute offered up a modest proposal: Eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency´s 15,000-person staff, move the headquarters from Washington to Topeka, Kan., and reload it with 300 state delegates. The policy brief from the libertarian think tank that promotes climate skepticism—written by Heartland science director Jay Lehr—is something of a dream scenario for tea partiers and other conservatives, who would like a smaller government and a chance to wipe clean EPA´s federal regulations. Lehr writes that "incremental reform of EPA is simply not an option," hence his proposal for a "Committee of the Whole" made up of state

WASHINGTON – News outlets, advocacy groups and fellow think tanks are jumping to the defense of a conservative-leaning D.C. policy center and publication being sued for libel by a scientist who didn´t like what they had to say about his work on global warming. Michael Mann, a prominent professor of meteorology at Pennsylvania State University, has long been a target of climate change skeptics for his work claiming temperatures have risen dramatically in recent decades, and has sued before when groups tried to debunk his data. But this time, Mann is being accused of going too far with his case against the

Two missing Amish girls in northern New York were found alive tonight and the Amber Alert for them was canceled. Applause erupted at the search command center when word came of their recovery. The girls, Delila Miller, 6, and Fannie Miller, 12, went to wait on a customer at the family´s roadside stand Wednesday night in Oswegatchie, a rural town located near the Canadian border. Police said a witness saw a vehicle put something in the backseat. When the car drove away, the witness told police the children were gone. KAMENSK-SHAKHTINSKY, Russia -- A dozen Russian armored personnel carriers appeared Friday near a large aid convoy that was parked near the Ukrainian border, poised to cross into rebel-held territory. Ukraine has expressed fears that Russia could use the aid shipment as cover for a military incursion in support of the separatists and threatened to use all means necessary to block the convoy if Ukrainian officials and the Red Cross were not allowed to inspect the cargo. While the presence of the armored vehicles near the aid trucks, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the border, was certain to cause some

Ebola victims are most infectious right after death—which means that West African burial practices, where families touch the bodies, are spreading the disease like wildfire. From 8 a.m. to midnight, wearing three pairs of gloves, the young men of Sierra Leone bury Ebola casualities. An activity that’s earned the Red Cross recruits an unwelcome designation: The Dead Body Management Team. Some days, just one call to collect a newly deceased victim comes in from the Kailahun district. Some days, the team receives nine. The calls from medical professionals at isolation centers are met with relief. These bodies have been quarantined.

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration is grappling with how to bridge the gap between its increasingly dire assessment of the threat posed by the Islamic State group and the limited, defensive air campaign it has so far undertaken, which military officials acknowledge will not blunt the group´s momentum. For months, administration officials have been divided about the threat posed by the Islamic State as it seized parts of Syria and advanced on towns in Iraq. Now, amid new intelligence about its growing strength, a consensus is forming that the group presents an unacceptable terrorism risk to the United States and its

President Obama said Thursday that “now is the time for healing” after a series of clashes between protesters and police over the shooting of a black teenager in Ferguson, Mo., but he also called for an open and transparent investigation “to see that justice is done” in the case. Going by the numbers, Apple fits into a stereotype of many tech companies in Silicon Valley: its workforce is overwhelmingly white and male. Overall, 70 percent of Apple employees are men as opposed to 30 percent women, and 55 percent are white, according to statistics provided by Apple. In addition, 15 percent of its overall workforce is Asian, 11 percent is Hispanic, and 7 percent is Black. California lawmakers are poised to enact a regulation requiring every college and university that receives public funding to define consensual sex in a way that attempts to micro-manage everyone’s sexual affairs. The first-in-the-nation legislation already passed California’s state Senate by a vote of 27-4 in May, The Associated Press reports. If the bill passes the assembly this month, it will then go to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown. The bill, which is based on guidance from the Obama administration, requires an “affirmative consent standard” that school administrators would use to determine whether a sexual assault has occurred.
