Paul to Perry: New glasses not working
Houston Chronicle, by Mike Ward

Days after Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted U.S. Sen. Rand Paul´s foreign policy approach as "curiously blind" and "wrong," Paul is shooting back. And Perry´s distinctive new glasses are caught in the crossfire. Responding to an op-ed column by Perry that was published Friday in The Washington Post, Paul responded on Monday with a column of his own published on Politico -- escallating a dispute between the two likely contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. "There are many things I like about Texas Gov. Rick Perry, including his stance on the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution. But apparently his

Hey guys, stop it! We maybe, if we are lucky , have a slim possibility of saving our country. It can only happen if y´all remember not to speak ill of your fellow Repulicans. Surely the last six years have given you plenty of targets that aren´t your natural allies.

I´ve lived in Sweden for the past 17 years and seen all the foreign policy fiascos committed by both parties. Distance gives me some dispassionate objectivity. Rand Perry is the only Republican who "gets it", imho. He puts the interests of America first and is realistic about what military force can and can´t do. If Iraq´s government won´t defend itself, we can´t do it for them, even if we kept troops there for the next hundred years.

California wants 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025 — more than 15 times the number now. So the state pays buyers $2,500 per car, on top of a $7,500 federal tax credit, to help speed development and promote widespread adoption. The effort has had mixed results. Sales of electric cars are up but remain well off the pace needed to meet state goals. And the generous subsidies are going largely to some of the state´s wealthiest residents. Nearly four-fifths of the state rebates went to households earning $100,000 or more, according to a state survey of buyers. Nearly

The Clintons are ´downsizing´ their summer home to a simple, $18million house in the pretty Hamptons hamlet of Amagansett. Former President Bill Clinton, 67, and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, 66, are expected this week at the sprawling five-bedroom property, owned by Andre and Lois Nasser, which they have rented for the remainder of the month. Their summer jaunt comes just weeks after Mrs Clinton controversially declared the power couple were ´dead broke´ after leaving the White House in 2000. In one gray box is a 1778 letter written by George Washington at Valley Forge. The flowing cursive wasn´t particularly eloquent, but showed the minutia he tackled during the Revolution. Washington asked the New York governor for help tracking down an American officer who had confiscated a money box from the British at Princeton, then apparently converted it "to his own use." President Obama gave a press conference this evening. He started a little over an hour late without explanation. Reporters stuck to asking questions that they evidently knew Obama would be comfortable answering. None of them asked him about any of his administration scandals. ABC’s Jon Karl, usually a tough questioner of Obama and his spokesmen, asked a rambling question that played right into the Democrats’ “economic patriotism” canard. Despite the fact that the president showed a passionless, bloodless, disinterested face to the world, he still managed to do some damage. Chris Jansing of CNN asked Obama if the sanctions against Russia are working.

Former president Jimmy Carter called on the West to recognize the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas as a legitimate "political actor" that represents the bulk of the Palestinian population. Carter made the comments in an article he co-wrote with former Irish president Mary Robinson in a new issue of Foreign Policy magazine. It was published as a cease-fire took hold Tuesday after four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which governs Gaza. In a sharply worded rebuke to Israel, Carter and Robinson said, "There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war."
