The border crisis —
Rick Perry’s fight-or-flight moment

Washington Times, by Steve Deace

What’s transpiring on the Texas-Mexico border could turn out to be an even bigger story than many of us realize. What could be bigger than a humanitarian crisis, with thousands of children caught in the cross-fire between lawless Latin American regimes and the lawless regime in our White House? What could be bigger than potentially allowing scores of criminals and other ne’er-do-wells to use these children as human shields that allow them to enter our country illegally? How about the opening salvo in America’s next major political realignment? Conventional wisdom says the story here is President Obama’s dereliction of

FTA: If the market still decides winners and losers, Perry has been one of the more successful governors in recent American history. The market says more people are moving to Texas than any other state, three of the top five fastest-growing cities in the country are in Texas, and since 2000 Texas has taken in at least a million more people than it has lost.

I am becoming increasingly leery of all these people moving to Texas----or any conservative state. It does not bode well. Look at Virginia and Colorado.

A good start might be for Governor Perry to go to the border with all the optics and go full Reagan, demanding: "Mr. Obama, do your Constitutional duty, SECURE THIS BORDER!"

Okay, that may be a bit too bold. Maybe Gov. Rick will settle for a Presidential meeting and a cut of that pending $3.7 billion melon to pay off his law enforcement overtime spent rounding up these "children" for ICE. He´s halfway home on that deal.

"Wouldn´t it be loverly" to have a wise, adult male in our White House. Quite a difference from the petulant child who is now the occupant. Just think, we wouldn´t be worried leaving him alone and going about our daily business with frightening thoughts creeping in the back of our minds. The thought would almost make us believe we had been given a Christmas bonus, save a few bucks on those exorbitant baby sitting charges paid to ValJar and Moochie to pay for child care.

Muhammad Hamidur Rahman, who grew up in Portsmouth and had previously worked as a supervisor at the clothing chain, was killed fighting alongside Islamic State fighters late last month. The 25-year-old left the UK in October last year, telling relatives he was joining on a “convoy” to deliver aid. Rahman, of Bangladeshi origin, has said he was called by God to help Muslims being killed by President Bashar al-Assad and that he was reconciled to dying in Syria. Enver Tohti was a surgeon in a hospital in Xinjiang, in the northwestern part of China, when, in June 1995, he was instructed by his superior to prepare for an adventure — surgery in the field. In the morning, when the doctor and his team arrived at their destination, he realized they were at “the Western Mountain Execution Grounds, which specialized in killing political dissidents.” “When you hear a gunshot, drive around the hill,” he was told. He asked why they were there. “You don’t want to know.” After the shot rang out, he drove where he was told, and saw “10, maybe 20, bodies lying at the base of the hill.”

The assassination of an American general by a Taliban terrorist posing as an Afghan soldier exposes the lunacy of the administration’s Afghanistan strategy. Under pressure from President Obama, the military rushed to recruit local Afghans to stand up a national army and police ahead of his hasty year-end troop withdrawal. To process some 7,000 new recruits each month, corners were cut on background checks, allowing insurgents and terrorists to fill the ranks of the now-350,000-member security force. At the same time, the Pentagon allowed the Afghan government to take over and empty US prisons of Taliban and other terrorists as

Sacramento - Taxi drivers required to pass an English test to renew their permits in Sacramento say they’re being set up for failure. Part of a newly passed ordinance that recently went into effect requires drivers to know a certain level of English. The city says the requirement came from passenger complaints. “We received a number of complaints from passengers that they couldn’t communicate with the driver of where they need to go and what they needed,” said city revenue manager Brad Wasson. The tests, one written and one digital, are required for a driver to renew their permit. In the first week, 18 of the 28 drivers failed at least one portion.

For me, watching the Food Network was always an easy escape from the stresses of daily life. There was just something calming about watching chefs in action, and this network had perfected Zen cooking. They’d often use a natural-light filter that made food appear delectable, as if the chefs were blissfully cooking their culinary delights in the sunlit designer kitchen of a tastefully decorated, impeccable home somewhere in the Hamptons. (Well, with Ina Garten, that actually is the case.) I’ve never been anywhere near a sunlit designer kitchen in the Hamptons, but I still found it all oddly soothing. I’d

While noting that Africa faces a starvation problem, he also admonished its leaders not to create more farms. The reason? Adding more farms would contribute to “global warming.” Yeah, he really said that: “Certain agricultural processes can actually release carbon pollution and actually contribute to the problem in the first place. It’s a twisted circle. Always complicated. But we also know that there are certain ways to change that. For example, rather than convert natural areas to new farmland, a process

PRESIDENT OBAMA was right to order military action to prevent a potential genocide in northern Iraq and to stop forces of the al-Qaeda-derived Islamic State from advancing on Baghdad or the Kurdish capital of Irbil. However, the steps the president authorized on Thursday amount to more of his administration’s half-measures, narrowly tailored to this week’s emergency and unconnected to any coherent strategy to address the conflagration spreading across the Middle East. While U.S. airstrikes and drops of supplies may prevent the terrorist forces from massacring the Yazidi sect or toppling the pro-Western regime in Kurdistan, Mr. Obama lacks a plausible
