Um, no, the military did not ‘support’ the
Bergdahl exchange – it wasn’t asked

In a piece titled “Top US Military Leaders Supported Bergdahl Exchange,” The Wall Street Journal reports: Top US military leaders fully supported the decision to exchange five Taliban prisoners to secure the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held captive in Afghanistan for five years, according to letters released Thursday. The Joint Chiefs of Staff and its chairman unanimously supported the decision to swap the detainees to win the freedom of Sgt. Bergdahl, said the letters, released by Sen. Carl Levin (D., Mich), who heads the Senate Armed Services Committee. Um, no they didn’t. The story continues: The operation to free Sgt. Bergdahl

This became political when Obama did his photo op in the Rose Garden with Bergdahl´s parents and Rice who speaks for Obama said that Bergdahl served with honor and distinction.

Chances are the Army political generals are going to get rid of Bergdahl as soon as they can through some discharge deal, as they know that since a number of US soldiers were wounded and killed while looking for Bergdahl after he deserted his unit, that if he is reassigned to an infantry unit, Bergdahl could be seriously injured or killed by the troops.

One Hundred Years

There was always something "other," something "outsider" about the Marx Brothers—they seemed to belong to an entirely different universe, not only from the other actors in their movies, but from each other. The members of many comedy teams, like Olsen and Johnson or the Ritz Brothers, were so similar you often couldn´t tell them apart. Others may have had physical contrasts—Laurel and Hardy, say, or Abbott and Costello—but those still seemed to be two halves of a whole. The Marxes, on the other hand, could have been members of three separate teams: one visual, one verbal and the other ethnic

Hillary Clinton left her post at the top of the U.S. State Department on Feb. 1, 2013, but the federal government spent more than $55,000 on travel expenses related to her book tour just last month, procurement documents show. The expenses included a $3,668 charge for her to enjoy a single night´s lodging in a suite at the posh Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris. That rate corresponds to the cost of a suite with a ´large and superbly appointed marble bathroom,´ a ´deep soaking tub,´ ´sparkling chandeliers´ and ´elegant period furniture,´ according to the Four Seasons website. Ukrainian officials said Tuesday that 280 trucks thought to be carrying humanitarian aid from Russia to the war-torn eastern Ukraine city of Luhansk would not be allowed to cross the border between the two countries. Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine´s National Security and Defense Council, said the convoy would not be allowed to pass because it had not been certified by the Red Cross. Lysenko also showed a covertly filmed video appearing to show vehicles similar to the white-canopied trucks dispatched from Moscow on Tuesday parked at a military base in Russia. For conservatives who are concerned that the Obama administration is out of control, there is only one real way to stop it. And, no, it’s not impeachment. It’s the power of the purse. There is only one way to exercise that power: by Republicans, who already have a majority in the House of Representatives, gaining control of the U.S. Senate. Like last year’s hurricane season, which had some stiff winds but no major storms, this year’s primary season has not blown down any Senate incumbents. This result puts the Republican Party in a good position to recapture the upper chamber and finally be able

It is hard to exaggerate the drama or the stakes of the leadership battle now playing out in Baghdad. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is desperately clinging to power, even summoning elite troops to the Green Zone where the government is based. Yet many in his own Dawa party are deserting him. Enough Shiite politicos have turned against Maliki that his own State of Law slate (a larger grouping of Shiite parties which includes Dawa along with others) has nominated another candidate–Haider al-Abadi–as prime minister. Iraq’s president has now asked Abadi to form a government, which he has 30 days to

It is such common sense as to be undeniable that basic journalism requires a party label to be affixed to a story about an elected public official, the president excepted. It is the DNA of the “who” in a news report. “Senator Robert Byrd, the Democratic senator from West Virginia, died today.” Take out “Democratic” and try that sentence. It doesn’t work. “Mike Lee, GOP senator from Utah and God’s gift to mankind, coasted to reelection last night.” Ditto. It follows that the rule applies to stories about political scandal, precisely because it’s just that — politics. But what happens when

President Obama got angry at lawmakers who suggested in a private meeting that he should have armed the Syrian rebels, calling the criticism “horseshit.” The argument that America should have done more in Syria, made for years by foreign policy leaders in both parties and several members of Obama’s senior national security team, was brought back to the fore this past weekend. There was a time not so long ago when President Obama boasted of how he had “ended” the Iraq War. It was, in his telling, a sign of his stalwart fidelity to his word. A video produced by his 2012 presidential campaign was titled “Ending the War in Iraq: A Promise Kept.” His Web site said in December 2011: “This month, President Obama is making good on his promise to bring the last American troops home from Iraq in time for the holidays.” The president portrayed the complete withdrawal of US troops as testimony to his exemplary political character. “You know I say what

It was implausible to me that Barack Obama never knew Rev. Jeremiah Wright hated Jews. At best, Obama made a deal with this anti-Semitic racist, who helped Obama launch his political career. Still, back in 2008, Jews — displaying the cognitive dissonance of a captive Democratic voter bloc — gave Obama the benefit of the doubt for the same reason most Jews continue to support him: he’s (half) black. Jews favor underdogs and victims (though really, Obama is neither). As many Jews assimilated into America over the last century, some downplayed their Jewish identity — changing names, intermarrying and, most of all,

President Obama must really be teed off. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his once-loyal secretary of state and his likeliest successor, has gone rogue, criticizing his foreign policy as too timid. Obama responded with not one but two rounds of golf. Clinton, in an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg published by the Atlantic over the weekend, offered a withering comment on the Obama doctrine, described in shorthand by White House officials as “don’t do stupid [expletive].” Said Clinton: “Great nations need organizing principles, and ‘Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle.” As the criticism became public, Obama was doggedly sticking with

The president who spent years touting the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq suddenly has had to distance himself from that action. At the White House on Saturday morning — less than 48 hours after authorizing airstrikes against Islamist militants and humanitarian air drops to save the lives of trapped Iraqi civilians — President Obama blamed his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the absence of American troops in Iraq and rejected the assertion that he could have left a small peacekeeping force in the war-torn nation. He uttered those after three years, and a successful re-election campaign, in which

When he was running for re-election in 2012, President Barack Obama repeatedly took credit for ending the war in Iraq and bringing all U.S. troops home from that country. At the White House on Saturday, however, when talking about his decision to use military force against the al-Qaida-related ISIS terrorist group in Iraq, Obama said removing all U.S. troops from Iraq was not “my decision.” “You know I say what I mean and I mean what I say,” Obama said in Hollywood, Florida on Nov. 4, 2012. “I said I´d end the war in Iraq.
