A would-be carjacker got a taste of street justice when he tried to steal a vehicle with a woman and child inside, after a group of passers-by rushed to her aid, dragging him away and holding him down until the police arrived. Ismael Hernandez, 21, is accused of getting into the car in a San Diego shoppers car park and attempting to drive off with the owner and her child still inside before crashing into a pole. Video of the incident shows a group of men standing around the car hauling Hernandez out of the driver´s seat and grabbing hold

Health officials are investigating nine cases of muscle weakness or paralysis in Colorado children and whether the culprit might be a virus causing severe respiratory illness across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday sent doctors an alert about the polio-like cases and said the germ--enterovirus 68--was detected in four out of eight of the sick children who had a certain medical test. The status of the ninth case is unclear. The virus can cause paralysis but other germs can, too. Health officials don´t know whether the virus caused any of the children´s arm and leg

Britain has bought 20 Tomahawk missiles from the US in preparation for its bombing campaign against Islamic State. Costing £1million each, they are fired from submarines and can be computer-programmed to turn corners. They have already been fired in the Gulf by the US and are likely to be among the first weapons used by the British military in Operation Shader. The submarines loiter offshore before going to depth to fire the Tomahawks which can cover more than 850 miles, can be retargeted in flight and can loiter above a target for more than two hours.

The European Court of Human Rights will no longer be able to overrule British courts, under Conservative plans to be unveiled within days. Chris Grayling, the Justice Secretary, told The Telegraph that the Tories are ready to change the law to ensure that Britain is no longer “powerless” before the European court. After extensive deliberations, the Conservatives are ready to unveil their plans to scrap the Human Rights Act and ensure that the final decision on controversial legal cases is taken by Britain’s Supreme Court and not judges in Strasbourg, he said. The manifesto plans are expected to be disclosed

She said she expected the Danish parliament to approve the country´s participation next week, and the planes would start operating right away. The planes will serve only over Iraqi airspace, and not over Syria, she said.

Conservatives don´t talk about these things because they are idle leftist preoccupations which have no place in a political philosophy based on personal responsibility, liberty and empiricism. We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

Of all the malfeasances of William Jefferson Clinton the one that would have most justified a removal from office was not the Monica hijinks, even with the attendant lying under oath and absurd parsings of the word “is,” but the pardoning of Marc Rich — the billionaire international commodities trader and mammoth contributor to, er, Clinton. When the U.S. military strikes, its leaders often choose colorful code names for the operation that sometimes stick in history, like Operation Overlord or Rolling Thunder or Desert Storm. Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said Thursday. Since World War II, almost every U.S. military operation, large and small, has had a code name.
