Church of England
approves women bishops

Agence France-Presse, by Staff

York, UK: The Church of England overcame bitter divisions on Monday to vote in favour of allowing female bishops for the first time in its nearly 500-year history. The decision reverses a previous shock rejection in 2012 and comes after intensive diplomacy by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. Cheers erupted in the hall at the Church of England General Synod in York, northern England, as the measure passed. The first women bishops could now be appointed before the end of the year. The Church of England is the mother church of the global Anglican Communion, followed by some 80 million people in over 165 countries.

Comments:
I may not live long enough to see if statistically this action will increase their dwindling church attendance. Wouldn´t bet on it.

So much for a religion founded by a tyrant. No wonder so many are converting to church founded by Christ

Exactly right *1. This ´church´ is headed in the same direction as the US Episcopal Church. It took me awhile to realize that ´The first openly gay Episcopal bishop" wasn´t his official title given the media coverage. As for Anglicans the slope will get slipperier

That "intense diplomacy" included persuading objectors to "abstain" rather than cast a "no" vote, leading some opponents to declare that their voices and perspective had been made invisible.

Another sad day for the C of E. Fortunately the best of the Anglican tradition is alive and thriving around the globe, especially in Africa and other 3rd world countries.

Not a promising stance to take on judgment day.

Who were the first to whom the significance of the empty tomb was revealed? Who went and told the triumphant story to frightened and discouraged disciples, those superior men? Oh. Yeah. Women. Imagine that.. Women with whom Jesus had honored with his teachings and regard, and who he knew to be receptive to his truth.
Let us not worry about gender, rather more about godliness, and competence. People who feel they have to disparage the beliefs of others sound mighty small-minded and hateful.

Spinosaurus fossil:

A giant fossil, unearthed in the Sahara desert, has given scientists an unprecedented look at the largest-known carnivorous dinosaur: Spinosaurus. The 95-million-year-old remains confirm a long-held theory: that this is the first-known swimming dinosaur. Scientists say the beast had flat, paddle-like feet and nostrils on top of its crocodilian head that would allow it to submerge with ease. Lead author Nizar Ibrahim, a palaeontologist from the University of Chicago, said: "It is a really bizarre dinosaur - there´s no real blueprint for it. "It has a long neck, a long trunk, a long tail, a 7ft (2m) sail on its back and a snout like a crocodile.

The House on Thursday took another swipe at Obamacare ahead of the midterm elections, with about two dozen Democrats joining the Republican majority to pass a bill that lets insurers continue to offer employer health plans that do not comply with the law’s coverage standards. President Obama has threatened to veto the measure, which passed the chamber 247-167 but will surely die in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Republicans said the bill was necessary to broaden consumer choice and help Mr. Obama keep his promise that “if you like your health plan, you can keep it,” while many Democrats complained it would

Experts say the combined energy from two recent solar events will arrive at Earth on September 13, prompting the Space Weather Prediction Center to issue a strong Geomagnetic Storm Watch. Student loan debt doesn’t only hurt the young. More seniors are carrying their college debt into retirement. The total outstanding debt load held by seniors grew to $18.2 billion in 2013, up from $2.8 billion in 2005, according to a report released by the Government Accountability Office on Wednesday. The share of households headed by people between the ages of 65 and 74 who have student loan debt also grew, reaching 4 percent in 2010 from 1 percent in 2004. The GAO report cited a number of reasons why older Americans might still be paying off student loans even as they’re gearing up for retirement.

Detroit - With a thumb swipe on a smartphone, your car one day will be able to drive into a parking deck, find an open spot and back into a space — all by itself. Technology being honed by French auto parts maker Valeo uses a dozen ultrasonic sound-wave sensors, 360-degree cameras and a laser scanner to safely park within a few centimeters of other vehicles. Then, when you’re done with dinner or a business meeting, the car will return to you after another swipe of the thumb. The potential benefits are plenty. More orderly parking means less congestion. Drivers are spared the time and frustration of the hunt for a spot.

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan.
