Journal flash poll: New Mexicans cold

Journal [Albuquerque, NM], by James Monteleone

President Barack Obama’s handling of the Central American immigration crisis isn’t selling well in New Mexico, according to a Journal flash poll. More than half of the registered New Mexico voters surveyed — 55 percent — said they disapproved of the president’s handling of the situation. Only 28 percent said they approved and 16 percent were unsure. Tens of thousands of immigrants from Central America have recently entered the U.S. illegally, many of them children, and many reportedly fleeing violence in their own countries. Obama’s response has been e volving. But last week, just before the Journal flash poll was conducted, he asked

Santa Fe is a sanctuary city full of leftist wingnuts and Hollywood types. If you eliminate them and the Albuquerque/UNM liberal whacko crowd you pretty much have a state that is overwhelmingly against ANYTHING barry does. I live in the NW part of the state, just south of Durango, CO. Our part of the state is overwhelmingly conservative, a poll would probably be similar to what the poll showed in Artesia. My point is, if you left the 2 parts of the state out that I mentioned first, you have pretty much universal barry hatred. Unfortunately, what happens in Santa Fe and Albuquerque controls NM.

#3, that´s true of a lot of so-called blue states. If you look at the electoral map of Massachusetts, outside of the greater Boston and the Springfield-Northampton-Amherst areas, it´s pretty solidly red.

Elderly Latino Americans living in N.M. lament what has happened along the border where they used to be able to safely visit relatives just south of the border legally. They have not been able to do that for the past few years due to the PC beltway pols´ neglect of enforcement of this country´s legislated existing immigration law, thus enabling drug & human trafficking thug gangs to rule & intimidate law abiding citizens.

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that

The Obama administration long ago cultivated a sense among its defenders that lingering American racism inspires most of its critics, but it was Obama’s supporters in the press who elevated the practice of accusing conservatives of racial animus to farcical virtuosity. It was Obama’s boosters in the liberal blogosphere, many of whom found microphones for their agitation on networks like MSNBC, who invented the art of detecting “dog whistle” racism. For those unfamiliar, this is the ability to decode supposed appeals to racial solidarity that only a professional can ascertain. While these coded claims are rarely perceived by their alleged

Hillary Clinton already wears the mantle of presumptive nominee for president. She´s an accomplished lawyer, a member of Walmart´s board of directors, a close adviser to her husband when he was president, a two-term senator from New York, and secretary of state. And yet, she is a horrible politician. So far, she has been able to sew up lots of Democratic money and support, and build an organization without actually beginning her campaign. She hasn´t even decided on running, but maintains the repose of someone awaiting her party´s coronation. That is a wise strategy. Consider that Clinton has run in three elections.

Bridges and tunnels, tunnels and bridges. For the future of our world, we must learn to recognize the difference between the two. I spent a lot of time over the years, both as First Lady and U.S. secretary of state, thinking about ways to understand those differences. I hold firm to my opinion that tunnels are, by and large, designed for traveling beneath things. Bridges, by contrast, are designed for traveling above things. And, like many Americans, I still hold strong to that great belief. With tunnels and bridges, it’s not that the more you have of one the less

There are obviously many important events going on in the world right now, but with 60,000 foreign children streaming across the Texas border, I am surprised Governor Perry has apparently still found time to mischaracterize and attack my foreign policy. Governor Perry writes a fictionalized account of my foreign policy so mischaracterizing my views that I wonder if he’s even

One afternoon in the spring of 2006, Damany Lewis, a math teacher at Parks Middle School, in Atlanta, unlocked the room where standardized tests were kept. It was the week before his students took the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test, which determined whether schools in Georgia had met federal standards of achievement. The tests were wrapped in cellophane and stacked in cardboard boxes. Lewis, a slim twenty-nine-year-old with dreadlocks, contemplated opening the test with scissors, but he thought his cut marks would be too obvious. Instead, he left the school, walked to the corner store, and bought a razor blade. When he

Government authorities were wise to back off in April when scofflaw Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy surrounded himself with armed supporters to avoid paying more than $1 million in grazing fees and penalties he had accumulated over two decades. As infuriating as it was that Bundy had repeatedly defied court orders and insisted he could graze his cattle wherever he pleased, he wasn´t worth a bloody confrontation. Three months later, though, Americans who obey the law and pay their bills might wonder how long Bundy and his gun-toting pals are going to get away with rejecting the rule of law. It´s bad enough

Sarah Palin wants to impeach Barack Obama. In an op-ed article published last week, the former Republican vice presidential nominee declared that the crisis on the southern border (where young illegal immigrants are being detained) "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´No, mas´." The Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, thinks that´s loco. (Technically, he said, "I disagree".) For Republicans hoping to avoid the kind of drama that might derail what looks to be a very good midterm election year, this kind of call is both a nuisance and a trend. On April 1, the U.S. economy dropped a whopping 2.9 percent for the first three months of the year (no fooling). The American workforce participation rate fell to a 40-year low. One-third of people aged 18-29 have moved back in with their parents. The “ugly American” has gotten a lot uglier over the past few weeks, from the streets of California to the halls of Congress and state houses around the country. A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better. Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff got an ‘F’ after the nation’s soccer team lost to Germany.
