Journal flash poll: New Mexicans cold

Journal [Albuquerque, NM], by James Monteleone

President Barack Obama’s handling of the Central American immigration crisis isn’t selling well in New Mexico, according to a Journal flash poll. More than half of the registered New Mexico voters surveyed — 55 percent — said they disapproved of the president’s handling of the situation. Only 28 percent said they approved and 16 percent were unsure. Tens of thousands of immigrants from Central America have recently entered the U.S. illegally, many of them children, and many reportedly fleeing violence in their own countries. Obama’s response has been e volving. But last week, just before the Journal flash poll was conducted, he asked

Santa Fe is a sanctuary city full of leftist wingnuts and Hollywood types. If you eliminate them and the Albuquerque/UNM liberal whacko crowd you pretty much have a state that is overwhelmingly against ANYTHING barry does. I live in the NW part of the state, just south of Durango, CO. Our part of the state is overwhelmingly conservative, a poll would probably be similar to what the poll showed in Artesia. My point is, if you left the 2 parts of the state out that I mentioned first, you have pretty much universal barry hatred. Unfortunately, what happens in Santa Fe and Albuquerque controls NM.

Elderly Latino Americans living in N.M. lament what has happened along the border where they used to be able to safely visit relatives just south of the border legally. They have not been able to do that for the past few years due to the PC beltway pols´ neglect of enforcement of this country´s legislated existing immigration law, thus enabling drug & human trafficking thug gangs to rule & intimidate law abiding citizens.

An Algerian jihadist group linked to Islamic State released a video Wednesday purportedly showing the beheading of a French tourist who was abducted on Sunday, a U.S. terrorist watchdog group says. French President Francois Hollande confirmed the killing of Herve Gourdel, condemning it as a "cruel and cowardly" act. After seizing Gourdel, a 55-year-old mountaineering guide from Nice, on Sunday, the extremist group Jund al-Khilafah warned tht he would be killed within 24 hours unless the French president halted French airstrikes in Iraq against the Islamic State extremist group. France insisted it would not back down on the attacks. France was the first U.S.

The White House is in the final stages of preparing a midterm campaign schedule for President Barack Obama through October that has only one color code: deep, deep blue. In just the past few weeks, the list of expected stops has shrunk, with several campaigns that were requesting the president as recently as late August now pulling back those requests. And the White House has itself grown more hesitant, reconsidering a tentative schedule circulated earlier this month out of concern that world events may force Obama to cut back his campaigning. Not only will he need to devote time to managing

How Obama’s War Against

Barack Obama’s war against ISIS has come a long way from Sinjar Mountain. It was six weeks ago, on Aug. 7, that the President announced his first airstrikes against the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS). It was a profound decision for a President long determined to avoid military action in the Middle East—and for a war-scarred country resistant to foreign interventions. It was also the first of many incremental steps towards Monday night’s dramatic strikes in Syria—a piecemeal approach that suggests an improvised mission, and one whose objectives and justifications have repeatedly shifted over the past

Last week, President Obama headlined a $100,000-a-plate fundraiser at the swank Jefferson Hotel in downtown Washington on behalf of the Democratic Party´s Senate campaign arm. The ticket price was high—even by modern standards. But beyond that, there was almost no information to be found about it. How much money did the president help rake in for the party that evening? The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee wouldn´t say. The committee wouldn´t even disclose how many people attended. Nor were the president´s remarks to a room of big donors ever made public. Obama is on pace to easily exceed his predecessor, George W. Bush,

A presidential administration expected to be more open and transparent than preceding ones has become focused on keeping secrets, and preventing legitimate public inquiry. Having been elected to the White House with the promise of increased openness and transparency regarding government operations, Barack Obama may end his presidency as among the most secretive in American history. That, anyway, was the conclusion of a couple of the high-powered panelists Monday night during a debate on freedom of the press vs. national security at the Paley Center for Media. The result--argued Hina Shamsi of the American Civil Liberties Union and Barton Gellman of The Washington

Politico has a perceptive story wondering whether and how President Obama’s decision to extend the war against ISIS to Syria will affect his UN diplomacy as the General Assembly meets this week in New York. The story goes through the two obvious options. On the positive side of the ledger, the inclusion of Arab countries in the coalition “could add momentum to U.S. efforts to form a broad international campaign against the radical Sunni group.” As a counterpoint, however, the high-profile military action could be considered too controversial for some. But then Politico hits the third possibility: There are also questions

Aficionados of horror movies know that the monster is never really dead when you think it is. It may be down, but it will inevitably climb back from the dead at least one more time before the final credits. So it is with government programs. No matter how outdated, useless, wasteful, or redundant programs may be, they come as close to immortality as possible. Recall that Washington is a town where a tax on long-distance telephone calls was enacted in 1898 to help pay for the Spanish-American War. That tax wasn’t repealed for good until 2006. Or consider wool and mohair

“No taxation without representation” has been a cliché of American politics almost since the nation’s founding, but for citizens of Washington, D.C., those words have been anything but a guarantee. Last week, a Senate committee held a hearing on the unlikely possibility of D.C. statehood. In attendance were Senators Thomas Carper, a Delaware Democrat, and Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican, Mayor Vincent Gray, and Eleanor Holmes Norton, the district’s non-voting delegate for the House of Representatives. Along with nine panelists, they were there to discuss the New Columbia Admission Act, a bill that would incorporate the lion’s share of D.C. as

White House press-pool reports are supposed to be the news media’s eyes and ears on the president, an independent chronicle of his public activities. They are written by reporters for other reporters, who incorporate them into news articles about President Obama almost every day. Sometimes, however, the White House plays an unseen role in shaping the story. Journalists who cover the White House say Obama’s press aides have demanded — and received — changes in press-pool reports before the reports have been disseminated to other journalists. They say the White House has used its unusual role as the distributor of

The Obama administration is now so tongue-tied it can’t tell us what it is about to do in the Middle East. So let’s pitch in: The Obama administration is going to war in Iraq and Syria. Having settled that, the arithmetic is simple: This is the third war against Islamic jihadists Washington has waged in a little more than 10 years, and its Washington’s third big mistake. Obama’s new non-plan to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic State, the self-styled caliphate that has swiftly captured parts of Syria and Iraq, will have to clarify before we can judge it in any entirety. President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. His quasi-saluting gesture was an instant embarrassment for the White House, and not because his environmentally taboo drinkware clashed with the green-policy speech he was on his way to deliver at a UN Climate Summit.
