U.S. Sees Risks in Assisting a
Compromised Iraqi Force

New York Times, by Eric Schmitt & Michael R. Gordon

WASHINGTON — A classified military assessment of Iraq’s security forces concludes that many units are so deeply infiltrated by either Sunni extremist informants or Shiite personnel backed by Iran that any Americans assigned to advise Baghdad’s forces could face risks to their safety, according to United States officials. The report concludes that only about half of Iraq’s operational units are capable enough for American commandos to advise them if the White House decides to help roll back the advances made by Sunni militants in northern and western Iraq over the past month. Adding to the administration’s dilemma is the assessment’s conclusion that

This is not a new revelation. Iraq´s security force has always been comprised at varying levels over the years and largely ineffective as anything but a large SWAT with artillery and tanks. This is what happens when we don´t kick the snot out of the enemy, which gives them license to play pretend army just to appease the US command.

IF I were in the service right now....I´d walk out and never look back. Fortunately none of my grands are in there but IF they were, I´d ADVISE them to get the heck out of Obama´s insane control of the military.

The president of the Green Party in Canada is stepping down from his position after a controversy over the fact that he expressed support for Israel in a blog post. On Tuesday, Paul Estrin issued a statement announcing his immediate resignation. “I am proud of all the successes and achievements made during my term as President of the Green Party of Canada,” he wrote. “I never intended to create confusion or have any of my actions negatively impact the Party.” Last week, Estrin posted a blog entry to the party’s website entitled “Why Gaza makes me sad.” In the post, he defended

Remember when President Barack Obama boasted of lowering the debt by half? Or when, in 2008, Obama accused President George W. Bush of being “unpatriotic” for taking out a “credit card in the name of Bank of China.” Well, it appears that Obama has reached his self-defined “unpatriotic” zone himself. According to CNS News, the new debt increase from the Obama administration is more than all of the presidents from George Washington to Bill Clinton COMBINED: - The total federal debt of the U.S. government has now increased more than $7 trillion during Barack Obama’s tenure as president. - When

Has Vladimir Putin seen this photo of John Kerry yet? Has Benjamin Netanyahu? When they do, I think one of them will be laughing and the other — well, no, even Bibi will be cracking up when he sees Hamas’ best buddy wobbling on a bicycle on Nantucket last weekend. A girl’s bike. A girl’s pink bike. As usual with these annual summer photos on Nantucket, Kerry looks surprised that someone just walking along happens to have a cellphone camera. It’s happened to Liveshot how many times now, just on Nantucket, and he’s still astounded that it’s happened again. Apparently, he still believes it’s 1984,

“One useful idiot please, heavy on the idiot.” Former President Jimmy Carter once again is getting way out in front of the U.S. government on the Middle East, co-authoring an op-ed in which he calls for Washington to recognize designated terror group Hamas as a legitimate “political actor” — while blasting Israel for its military campaign in the Gaza Strip. The scathing column on ForeignPolicy.com was written by Carter and Ireland’s former president Mary Robinson. The article called the current conflict a “humanitarian catastrophe,” and while acknowledging Hamas’ “indiscriminate targeting” of Israelis, focused its criticism on Israel. “There is no

But the wholesome and organic branding of Urban Rustic and The Lodge, a nearby food outlet that Woolf owns, has not stopped the businesses from receiving 83 Health Department violations in 3 1/2 years, including several for evidence of rats and mice on the premises, and one for roach sightings, records show. A California couple is speaking out after they say their finances have been devastated over their daughter’s student loan debt, which they are being forced to repay after the woman died unexpectedly four years ago. Steve and Darnelle Mason’s 27-year-old daughter Lisa died suddenly from a liver disease, leaving behind three children. Darnelle Mason, who is now raising her grandchildren along with her husband, told Fox Business the “excruciating” pain of losing her daughter has only been compounded by the crushing debt. “She was doing what she really loved to do,” Mason said. “So it is really just a crushing

As he challenges the results of Mississippi’s Republican Senate run-off, Chris McDaniel is arguing that election officials should reject the vote of Sen. Thad Cochran’s press secretary. McDaniel’s 243-page formal challenge of Cochran’s victory in June 24´s Republican Senate primary, released Monday, lists the names of thousands whose votes should be thrown out. Cochran aide Jordan Russell is included in the list of improper votes. Specifically, it requests that Russell’s vote be invalidated because there was “no reason given for voting absentee.” Russell is Cochran’s top spokesman and is routinely quoted in the press. WASHINGTON -- Senate and House incumbents in Kansas, Michigan and Missouri are trying to beat back challengers Tuesday in the kickoff to a busy month of primaries. Voters in Washington state consider the qualifications of a dozen candidates vying to replace a two-decade congressional Republican who is retiring. In Kansas, three-term Republican Sen. Pat Roberts faced Milton Wolf, a radiologist and the second cousin of President Barack Obama. Wolf and his tea party allies cast the 78-year-old Roberts as a longtime fixture in Washington who barely lives in the state, and Roberts didn´t help his cause when he told a radio

President Obama gave a press conference this evening. He started a little over an hour late without explanation. Reporters stuck to asking questions that they evidently knew Obama would be comfortable answering. None of them asked him about any of his administration scandals. ABC’s Jon Karl, usually a tough questioner of Obama and his spokesmen, asked a rambling question that played right into the Democrats’ “economic patriotism” canard. Despite the fact that the president showed a passionless, bloodless, disinterested face to the world, he still managed to do some damage. Chris Jansing of CNN asked Obama if the sanctions against Russia are working.

Sen. Pat Roberts fended off an aggressive challenger Tuesday in the Kansas Republican primary, dealing another blow to a national tea party movement that has targeted longtime Washington incumbents. Milton Wolf, 43, a Leawood radiologist making his first run for public office, failed to pull the upset in the race against Roberts, 78, whose political dates to the late 1960s, when he was a congressional aide. After surviving the primary, Roberts is a huge favorite to win his fourth, six-year term in November. Republicans enjoy a nearly 20 percentage-point advantage among registered voters and have won every U.S. Senate race

Former president Jimmy Carter called on the West to recognize the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas as a legitimate "political actor" that represents the bulk of the Palestinian population. Carter made the comments in an article he co-wrote with former Irish president Mary Robinson in a new issue of Foreign Policy magazine. It was published as a cease-fire took hold Tuesday after four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which governs Gaza. In a sharply worded rebuke to Israel, Carter and Robinson said, "There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war."
