North Korean Ship Tests the
Waters Near America´s Shores

Forbes, by Claudia Rosett

It’s not often that North Korean-flagged freighters turn up near America’s shores, but when they do, they deserve attention. North Korea has a prolific record of arms smuggling, narcotics dealing, counterfeiting, terrorist ties and missile and nuclear proliferation. So, let’s hope U.S. authorities are keeping a close eye on a North Korean cargo ship called the Mu Du Bong, which late last month called at Cuba, then vanished from the commercial shipping grid for more than a week. This past Thursday, July 10, the Mu Du Bong reappeared at Havana, then began steaming north of Cuba, and as of this

The Obamas will probably invite them to the White House and put the crew up for free in a nice hotel. We´ll get the bill, of course.

Even in a city long plagued by violent crime, the bank robbery Wednesday left veteran police officers stunned. The robbers led police on a wild hourlong chase, holding hostages from the bank as human shields. Periodically, police say, the robbers would slow down, waiting for pursuing officers to come into view before opening fire with an AK-47-style assault rifle and other weapons. The pursuit ended in a minute-long gun battle that left two suspects and one hostage dead. Police said a third suspect survived uninjured because he used the hostage, Misty Holt-Singh, to shield himself from officers´ bullets. Singh had gone into

STOCKTON- Paul Singh describes what his family has been through in the last three days as a nightmare. His wife, Misty Holt-Singh, was killed Wednesday after she was taken hostage by three alleged gang members and was caught in the crossfire of a massive gun battle between those men and Stockton Police. “I wake up, I’m hoping that it’s a dream, that my mom’s gonna be there, but she’s not, and it sucks. It’s hard,” their son, Paul Jr., said Friday. Misty’s family chose to focus on the kind of person she was when they spoke to reporters. She was

The incident occurred on the Panamericana highway near Santa Cruz Michapa in the central province of Cuscatlan. He is one of the gunmen responsible for the beheading of seven factory workers in Jolo, Southern Philippines in 2007, as discovered in an online video. There’s a very simple solution to this Obamanation that’s occurring on the southern border. Enforce the law. By which I mean, deport them. Deport them all, not just the latest huddled masses yearning to live for free, forever, in Section 8 housing on EBT cards. No, we must deport all of the 12 or 20 or 30 million illegal aliens who are turning this country into a Third World flophouse. Can we do it? Yes, we can. A few years back, Marsha Coakley famously said, “Technically, it’s not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.” The ways things are going, it won’t be long before

Tuxpan (Mexico) - A North Korean freighter that sailed from Havana has run aground off the Mexican port of Tuxpan on the Gulf of Mexico, officials said. The ship, Mu Du Bong, sailed from Havana and ran around Monday 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from the port access, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, said Veracruz state civil defense emergency chief Ricardo Maza. Maza said the accident happened when the captain was disoriented. He said that the ship was said to be empty but carries 6,500 tonnes so "getting it off the gulf floor will require some specialized work"

At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer

LOS ANGELES — Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” has died, police said. He was 86. He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday. Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press. There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday.

Miami - A jury in northwest Florida awarded a staggering $23 billion judgment late Friday against the country’s second-largest tobacco company for causing the death of a chain smoker who died of lung cancer at the age of 36. Michael Johnson Sr. died in 1996 after smoking for more than 20 years. In 2006, his widow, Cynthia Robinson, of Pensacola, sued the R. J. The four-week trial ended Wednesday. The jury deliberated for 18 hours over two days,

Israeli and Egyptian diplomats both claim Egyptian efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed as a direct result of Secretary Kerry’s announcement he was prepared to join the talks.
