What Real Support

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement about the situation in Israel: The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification. It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region. Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions would encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict. Canada is unequivocally

Amen squared. Unfortunately, I believe this will put Canada on Obama´s enemies list. And I´m not kidding.

The Left unconditionally loathes Israel as much as it unconditionally loathes the USA. Obama is on the Left. Do the math.

Harper is not getting an invitation to Obama´s Iftar dinner. Israel just shot down an armed drone over a heavily populated area. Hamas is getting better weapons than before.

I know for a fact that Canadian Christians and Jews worked hard, prayed hard for years to get such a fine leader. Harper has not disappointed for a moment since the day he became Prime Minister. He has made similar statements of unequivocal support consistently.
He is very close to Bibi Netanyahu and top IDF officials. Have you noticed that American media virtually ignores Prime Minister Harper so that most citizens won´t ever get to know who he is and how he governs. This is 100% purposeful. Canada is BLESSED.

The U.S. is now bombing ISIS positions in Iraq. Before we get heavily involved in a losing battle – no matter who wins, we lose – the U.S. should consider its options wisely. We should not let emotional pleas overrule reason. By all means, the USA should drop food, tents, medical supplies, and even some small arms for self-defense to the Christians and Yazidis in Northern Iraq. Innocents should not be allowed to die. Beyond that limited involvement, America should do nothing. Why? Because Shia Iran is terrified of Sunni ISIS. Remember Iran? The mullah-ridden state trying to build nuclear

Israel Defense Force (IDF) ground units completed their withdrawal from Gaza on Tuesday, August 5. At first, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that this was part of a strategic Israeli decision to deal unilaterally with Hamas. Then Israel agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire, supposedly without committing to talks. Now Israel will enter Egyptian-mediated talks with Hamas, in contradiction to Netanyahu’s earlier pledge that there would be “no accommodation, only deterrence.” One thing is very clear at this point: Israel did not seek or win a military victory over Hamas, no matter what Netanyahu says, nor are most Israelis

The left-leaning tech blog Pando seems to be angry about a lot of aspects of reality.* Witness David Carr flipping out over this billboard that he spotted in San Francisco, “walking home from Pando’s office a few nights ago.” The billboard just educates people about reality. If you raise the cost of labor, then it becomes economical to replace labor with automation, in this case touch screens, which are declining in cost as labor prices itself out of the market through high minimum wages. Seems pretty basic. But Carr goes a little nuts, throwing around words like “screwing,” and impugning a person linked to the billboard.

State Department spokesman Jen Psaki makes me psick. If you read P.G. Wodehouse, you know the “P” in her name is silent, as in “phthisis,” “psychic” and “ptarmigan” (as Wodehouse’s Psmith explains). And Psaki’s colleague Marie Harf makes me barf. Together Psaki and Harf give the catastrophic foreign policy of the Obama administration a lighter than air, Valley Girl kind of feel. It’s a novel use of expressive form. Paul Mirengoff explores their weightlessness in the adjacent post. As Paul recounts, Harf came to the defense of Psaki when Bill O’Reilly had the temerity to utter pslightly pscathing words about Psaki

Less than 48 hours ahead of a planned address to the nation on how the U.S. plans to combat Islamic State terrorists operating in Iraq and Syria, President Obama dined at the White House Monday with a slate of foreign policy experts. Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State John Kerry were joined by some of Washington’s most established foreign policy hands, including Clinton National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Zbigniew Brzezinski, who held the same position during the Carter administration. Former Obama national security adviser Tom Donilon was also at the dinner, as was former Undersecretary for Defense Policy

The beatings of three people in a Kroger parking lot Saturday night will not be investigated as a hate crime, according to police officials. Memphis Police Department director Toney Armstrong said he’s had lots of calls asking how the investigation would proceed but said there is “not sufficient enough evidence to investigate this as a hate crime.” “I know this has a lot of racial undertones,” Armstrong said during a news conference Monday at Memphis City Hall. “I’ve gotten a lot of calls and I know (Memphis Mayor A C Wharton) has as well. Joan Rivers "banned" First Lady Michelle Obama, pop star Adele and talk show host Chelsea Handler from attending her funeral just weeks before her sudden death. The comedienne sent Hollywood into mourning when she died Thursday, days after suffering a cardiac arrest during a routine throat procedure. Her funeral was held in her New York on Sunday and attracted stars including Hugh Jackman, Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Osbourne and Sarah Jessica Parker, and it has now emerged Rivers had previously drawn up a wish-list of famous faces who should stay away. In one of her final interviews, conducted just weeks before her death, she

Half of all bird species in North America — including the bald eagle — are at risk of severe population decline by 2080 if the swift pace of global warming continues, the National Audubon Society concluded in a study released Monday. "The scale of the disruption we´re projecting is a real punch in the gut," said Gary Langham, chief Audubon scientist. (Snip) By 2080, the bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States, could see its habitat decrease by 75%, the report says. All of the habitat of the common loon, the state bird of Minnesota, could disappear in the lower 48

Washington — Panera Bread on Monday asked customers not to bring firearms into its restaurants, joining a growing list of retail and fast-food chains that have declared their establishments gun-free zones. The company said it wants to ensure that "customers and associates feel comfortable and welcome” in its restaurants. “We ask that guns not be brought into this environment unless carried by an authorized law enforcement officer," the eatery chain, which boosts 1,800 locations in the United States and Canada, said in a statement Monday. "Panera respects the rights of gun owners, but asks our customers to help preserve

While the Texas Democrat was all business on top — wearing a red suit jacket with a black and white scarf and pearl necklace — she was ready to hit the beach on the bottom, with her toe-baring shoes. The House feed on C-SPAN did not capture the summer recess-worthy thongs. This morning, New York Times reporter Kim Severson spiced up her obituary for Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy by tagging him "a symbol of intolerance" who presided over a "restaurant chain [seen by some] as a symbol of hate." Here´s the relevant excerpt (emphasis mine): When he introduced himself, S. Truett Cathy often played down his job. “I cook chicken for a living,” he would say. And on the surface, that was true. Mr. Cathy, who died on Monday at 93, was by all appearances a humble Christian man from Georgia with little education who sold a simple sandwich: a

The Obama administration will make a decision on executive action to prevent corporations from leaving the country in the "very near future," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said Monday morning. Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough. Inversions are tax maneuvers in which corporations buy firms in low-tax countries in order to place their headquarters in that country. Such deals have grown in number in recent months, with

Megyn Kelly tonight brought viewers the first part of her contentious showdown with Professor Ward Churchill, best known for his controversial comments about the “little Eichmanns” who were in the World Trade Center when the planes hit on September 11th. Churchill came under intense scrutiny and was fired by the University of Colorado at Boulder. What concerned Kelly most in the first part of the interview was that “little Eichmanns” comment, the argument being that Eichmann played a role in horrible atrocities even though he didn’t directly carry out the Final Solution, which he views as similar to the financial

Free money for everyone! With weak job growth, rising poverty, and the rich continuing to devour nearly all economic growth, it´s an idea that is gaining more credence. Arguments for a universal basic income (UBI) — in which everyone without exception would receive an equal stipend — have flourished in policy-centric areas of the internet, including The Week. Advocates of UBI see it as a blunter, more effective means of reducing poverty and shrinking the inequality gap. But even if UBI proponents are right on the merits, Tyler Cowen argues that the politics of the issue are not favorable. Under
