US Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
Prepares to Default (in Spanish)

Breitbart National Security, by Chriss W. Street

Municipal bond mutual fund investors are panicking this weekend after the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico’s Legislature passed a new law allowing public agencies to default on their debt. Although part of the United States, Puerto Rico in the 1990s made Spanish the official language and now about 86% of the island does not speak English in the home. Democrat Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla, who has difficulty speaking English, told Bloomberg News last year that Puerto Rico had a constitutional and moral obligation to not default on the island’s $73 billion of debt. But he just passed a law giving

The article says they are exempt from paying federal taxes unless they work outside the island. Not sure that´s accurate. The ones in this state pay taxes from their checks but receive a refund of those taxes on their income tax return.

They don´t speak English here either, even after living in the states for over 20 years.
No problem; everyone accommodates them at our cost.

The Democrats would love to make Puerto Rico a state and gain a lock on two additional US senate seats plus whatever number of Congress critters that their population numbers would engender.

Note to Congress: Do away with Puerto Rico as a U.S. commonwealth. Instead of relying on U.S. taxpayer money, they can sink or swim on their own.

I never will forget how they cried after forcing the US Navy to shut down a range it had on some island “belonging” to PR. When the range went so did the navy and a great loss of jobs. Too, too funny on how they howled about the loss of jobs after forcing the Navy to lose its range. Set them free and they can make it on their own.

We have been paying the freight for these people since the 1950s, with current aid being $6.5 billion. One third of the population is employed. Without us, they would be another Haiti and, as is standard with our other charity cases, they hate us.

Acting Veteran Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson assured Congress last week that the VA is working hard to replace its “antiquated” scheduling system, but the Obama administration first received clear notice more than five years ago about the need for an overhaul to reduce patient wait times. “Excessive wait times are addressed by moving to a resource-based management system,” Veterans Affairs technology officials told the Obama-Biden transition team in a briefing report that included mention of VA’s “schedule replacement” project. The Washington Times obtained the report through the Freedom of Information Act. More than five years later, VA officials are hard

Israeli forces on Sunday escalated their ground operations in Gaza City, leading to the deadliest day in the nearly two-week conflict between Israel and Hamas-backed forces amid calls by top U.S. and Israeli officials for a cease-fire. The Israeli military reported that 13 soldiers were killed early Sunday, and Palestinian authorities reported that at least 65 Palestinians were killed as air and tank fire pummeled the city for hours. More than 420 Palestinians, as well as at least 20 Israelis, have been killed since fighting began July 8. Secretary of State John F. Kerry said Hamas, which wants Israel and

The 298 passengers and crew on board the doomed flight MH17 would have been oblivious to what was happening as the missile struck the plane, according to a defence analyst. The Buk SA-11 missile would have hit the plane at various points, igniting the fuel and taking out the engines and wings in less than a second. The passengers on board would have been unconscious almost instantly. Explaining in graphic detail exactly what would have happened as the missile hit the plane, Justin Bronk, a researcher analyst at the Royal United Services Institute, told MailOnline: "An SA-11 missile is designed to

KIEV, Ukraine — The quest for clues in the downing of a Malaysia Airlines jet faced major obstacles Friday as the rebel militias that Ukraine blames for the disaster limited access to the mammoth crash site strewn with airplane parts and bodies. Ukrainian officials were trying to negotiate safe passage for teams of investigators and international observers deep in territory held by the pro-Russian separatists in the east of the country. The fate of the airplane’s black-box data recorders, which could give crucial information about the plane’s final moments, was unclear, with neither side acknowledging possession. And rebels argued among

DETROIT — On the night before her Friday keynote address to a gathering of progressive activists here, Sen. Elizabeth Warren tried to slip into a hotel restaurant for a quiet dinner. But the former law professor has become a liberal superstar, and when a few admirers spotted her walking to the corner of the dining room, they cheered loudly. A moment later, more joined in the applause. Then one urged her, “Run for president!” The next morning at Netroots Nation, where Warren (D-Mass.) gave a fiery sermon for economic populism — “The game is rigged, and it isn’t right!” —

Moral clarity in Gaza

Israel accepts an Egyptian-proposed Gaza cease-fire; Hamas keeps firing. Hamas deliberately aims rockets at civilians; Israel painstakingly tries to avoid them, actually telephoning civilians in the area and dropping warning charges, so-called roof knocking. “Here’s the difference between us,” explains the Israeli prime minister. “We’re using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.” Rarely does international politics present a moment of such moral clarity. Yet we routinely hear this Israel-Gaza fighting described as a morally equivalent “cycle of violence.” This is absurd. What possible interest can Israel have in cross-border fighting? Everyone

MOSCOW — A suspected Russian-made surface-to-air missile downed a Malaysia Airlines jet in a separatist-controlled corner of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, prompting the Ukrainian government to denounce an “act of terror” that killed all 298 people on board. U.S. intelligence officials confirmed, but could not identify the origins of, the missile strike that led to the deadliest downing of a civilian passenger plane in recent decades. One Ukrainian government official, however, said the Boeing 777 traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur appeared to have been hit by an advanced Russian-made missile system that recently came into the hands of the

With just a little encouragement from the US, regime change was possible. That would have been great for the Iranian people and made the world a safer place. DENTON, Texas — The council governing a North Texas city that sits atop a large natural gas reserve rejected a bid early Wednesday that would have made it the first city in the state to ban further permitting of hydraulic fracturing in the community. Denton City Council members voted down the petition 5-2 after eight hours of public testimony, sending the proposal to a public ballot in November. Fracking involves blasting a mix of water, sand and chemicals deep into underground rock formations to release trapped oil and gas. While the method has long stirred concerns about its effects on

The Environmental Protection Agency bowed to fierce criticism Wednesday and announced that it had hit the breaks on a fast-tracked plan to collect fines by garnishing paychecks of accused polluters. The agency, which has come under withering attacks from Republican lawmakers for attempting a “power grab,” said it still intended to pursue the new authority to garnish wages without a court order. But now it will follow a more typical and longer review process. Opponents of the wage-garnish rule applauded EPA’s decision. “It’s about time this abuse-prone agency listened to Congress and backtrack on a rule that was clearly an

It is at times like these, when he is pushed kicking and screaming into the crucible, that Obama’s callowness shows. For his supporters, that jejune, jocular air has been a plus for almost six years. For the rest of us, it has served as a liability and an irritation. Yesterday, it became a wholesale embarrassment. On the perpetual-campaign trail, the pattern is familiar. Trotting up to the podium, the president fist-bumps the audience’s stragglers and smiles a toothy and humble grin at those who catch his eye. At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer
