Man who shot rookie cop dead:
‘I’m going to be famous’

New York Post, by C.J. Sullivan

A Jersey City cop was killed in a cold-blooded ambush outside a Walgreens Pharmacy early Sunday by a violent nutjob who had boasted, “I’m going to be famous,” officials said. Officer Melvin Santiago, less than a year on the job, and his partner rolled up to Walgreens to answer a robbery call at 4:09 a.m. when the gunman came out of nowhere and blasted Santiago in the head as he opened the passenger-side door. Minutes earlier, shooter Lawrence Campbell, 27, stabbed the store security guard in the arm and took his gun, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said. Campbell then apologized to everyone in the store and said, “Watch the news later,

Comments:
The officer comes from a police family and had always wanted to be a cop, and requested an assignment on the mean streets.

The killer, who was deprived of a second career as Mumia Junior when the cops shot him dead, was wanted for another homicide. Odds are, he had a shocking rap sheet of prior arrests and powderpuff sentences doled out by judges who tolerate crime. Take a wild guess as to the killer´s general description; we already know where the blame for his behavior is always placed.

A little off-topic, but this is why I don´t think open carry is a good idea. Too big an invitation to the nutjobs.

Hamilton – One of two Hamilton men accused of pointing a gun at two children – one of them an 8-month-old boy – and threatening to put the infant in the oven during a home invasion earlier this month was out on bail on unrelated charges at the time of the incident. Prosecutors say McGhore Jean, 25, and Wicky Predvil, 22, robbed a family of more than $200, handbags and a tablet computer in their Second Street home in Trenton on July 12. Mayor Bill de Blasio and other officials denouncing “poor door” entrances for subsidized tenants in luxury buildings actually voted in favor of a measure that made such separation possible, a Post review found. When the lengthy text of a zoning resolution was amended by the City Council in July 2009, then-Councilman de Blasio — who arrived late to the meeting — was among the majority who voted “Aye.” One provision said developers of market-rate condos could include affordable units on site, instead of off site, while allowing for the separation of a number of services that included the entrances.

Thousands of people have spent vast sums of money installing eco-friendly solar panels but most will have probably had them fitted facing the wrong way, according to energy experts. The solar power industry is being urged to reconsider its approach to installing panels after one of the UK’s leading experts, Professor Ralph Gottshalg of Loughborough University says too many solar panels are facing in the wrong direction. Professor Gottshalg said Germany has too many solar panels which means that its grid is disrupted on sunny Summer lunchtimes with a flood of solar power so cheap it has to be almost given away.

Trenton – A 20-year-old Trenton man will spend nearly 30 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to choking a woman before sexually assaulting her unconscious body, not knowing the entire incident was caught on tape. Dante Picott was sentenced last week after he pleaded guilty in January to a 10-count indictment that included charges of kidnapping, robbery and multiple aggravated sexual assault offenses, admitting that at 1:30 a.m. on May 2, 2012, he choked and punched a woman into unconsciousness before dragging her behind a row of bushes to conceal her from passersby. You can understand President Obama´s current political problems -- and how those problems could make things very tough for his party in this fall´s midterm election -- in a single word. And that word is "competence". Obama was elected in 2008 on a stated promise that he would restore competence to government. He pitched himself as the antidote to "Heck of a job, Brownie" and the Bush years, the person who would always put the most qualified candidate in every job in his Administration. That the basic functioning of government would never be in question. Almost six years on from
