How to Think about Immigration
National Review Online, by Kevin D. Williamson

The influx of children across our southern border is troubling. First, because they are not all children — not by a sight — but images of children are useful for stirring emotions to muddy the policy waters. Second, because it is not all that unusual: As the Wall Street Journal reports, between 23,000 and 47,000 minors illegally entered the United States and were apprehended in each of the past five years; in 2013, we ordered only 3,525 deportations, suggesting that something on the order of nine in ten, or more, of minor illegal aliens — again, of the number apprehended — are allowed to stay. The number not apprehended is very large,

Wish they would get together on their numbers of illegals. Ad in Guatemala said there would be 65,000 that needed help getting here. This article says between 23,000 and 47,000 come each year. I saw an article that said 300,000 had come here since April. Another said 95,000 had come. Is this Common Core counting? Would be better if NONE got through. Send their brown butts back to where they came from.

This is an excellent article which could actually penetrate the bubbleheads of moonbats. I recommend distributing it widely.

And there´s a very fine point made here:

...mockery and derision are what one turns to when the opposition is clearly and inarguably in the right.

Must read.

Right now immigration, both illegal and legal, is the greatest source of new socialist oriented Democrat voters to keep the liberal Democrats in power, and for the Republicans it means an unlimited flow of cheap labor to keep wages as low as possible. That´s the way ordinary Americans should think of immigration because for the most part there is nothing in it for themselves.

Kissing the Corpses in Ebola Country

Ebola victims are most infectious right after death—which means that West African burial practices, where families touch the bodies, are spreading the disease like wildfire. From 8 a.m. to midnight, wearing three pairs of gloves, the young men of Sierra Leone bury Ebola casualities. An activity that’s earned the Red Cross recruits an unwelcome designation: The Dead Body Management Team. Some days, just one call to collect a newly deceased victim comes in from the Kailahun district. Some days, the team receives nine. The calls from medical professionals at isolation centers are met with relief. These bodies have been quarantined.

Shocking accounts of medieval brutality — including video of kneeling Iraqis being gunned down, a Twitter image of a young jihadist holding a severed head and threats by ISIS to take its savagery to the White House — have prompted desperate calls for the international community to stop the fanatical Islamic group. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon this week joined Pope Francis, Egypt´s top cleric and several world leaders in condemning the terrorist group, which now calls itself Islamic State and has carved out a caliphate, or nation of strict Sharia law, in northern Iraq and Syria. There in the baby section, behind boxes of strollers, was a 14-year-old boy with a secret. The runaway had made the 24-hour Walmart in Corsicana, Texas, his getaway hideout. For what may have been more than two days in July, he roamed the store unnoticed. When he was tired, he´d lay down in his hidden cubby and sleep while shoppers were unaware the runaway was back there. Police had been looking for the boy, who was visiting his aunt in the town about an hour´s drive south of Dallas, for 54 hours when they got a call from a Walmart. An employee had

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration is grappling with how to bridge the gap between its increasingly dire assessment of the threat posed by the Islamic State group and the limited, defensive air campaign it has so far undertaken, which military officials acknowledge will not blunt the group´s momentum. For months, administration officials have been divided about the threat posed by the Islamic State as it seized parts of Syria and advanced on towns in Iraq. Now, amid new intelligence about its growing strength, a consensus is forming that the group presents an unacceptable terrorism risk to the United States and its

David Gregory wasn’t supposed to host “Meet the Press” on Sunday. He was on a planned vacation in Nantucket, where, the night before, he had hosted a special presentation of the Boston Pops, sponsored by Coastal Living and Real Simple. Midway through the week, however, Gregory changed his mind. His fate at “Meet the Press” had been the subject of numerous press reports. Page Six and others had declared him dead in the water come November. Several NBC personalities were already vying to replace him. Gregory was chartered back to Washington for Sunday’s program, having concluded, one NBC source said, that

UPDATED: With statements from McDaniel spokesman Noel Fritsch As Chris McDaniel´s team continues to scour voting records to add to an expected legal challenge of his loss to Thad Cochran, it has listed McDaniel´s lead lawyer in the challenge, and his wife, as irregular votes that should be tossed out. McDaniel lawyer Mitchell H. "Mitch" Tyner Sr. on Monday sent Cochran´s attorneys additional affidavits listing hundreds more alleged illegal or irregular votes from the June 24 runoff. Problem is, Tyner and his wife, Sloane Tyner, were flagged by a McDaniel volunteer as "CROSSOVER/IRREGULAR VOTING" in one of the new affidavits claiming problems with Madison

In a fine piece of long journalism, Tampa Bay Times reporters Adam Smith and Michael Kruse provide Floridians with everything they need to know about Charlie Crist in a bit more than 10,000 well-chosen words. It’s not a pretty picture. But then regular TAS readers already know this, as do Floridians paying the slightest attention. “Knowing Charlie,” which begins on page one of last Sunday’s Times is a lot more than the usual journalistic he-said, she-said, and re-write from the files. It is the result of months of work by the two reporters, interviewing Crist’s supporters and detractors, as well as

The Obama years have taught us the sometimes frightening lesson that our Constitution and legal structure alone don’t secure the Republic. We also depend on norms — or an implied understanding of what sort of behavior is acceptable. Liberals have given this problem special attention, as Republicans have carried out most of the norm-violating. It turns out to be perfectly legal for a party that controls just one wing of Congress to announce that, unless the president offers up ideological concessions, they will unleash a potential worldwide economic calamity. There is likewise nothing in the Constitution stopping the opposition party

The Christian right has some things figured out. These days, Christian entertainment isn’t just the didactic “700 Club” — it includes spectacles as high-flying as History’s miniseries “The Bible” or as wacky as GSN’s “American Bible Challenge.” If these entertainments, relying as they do on knowledge of the source material, do any converting, that’s a fringe benefit; they exist to further galvanize the faithful in their beliefs. American atheists haven’t learned from these projects, it seems. The recently-launched AtheistTV, which is available over the Internet and through the Roku streaming device, frames itself as an outreach project of sorts. It consists

It was so heavily fortified that a Japanese commander boasted it would take a million men a hundred years to take the island. It took the Marines three days. Jim Morrow was one of those Marines. The brassiness, dishonesty and shamelessness as she slides into yet another presidential campaign season is enough to choke that old Arkansas draft mule of a husband she hitched her career to. The scheming calculation of it all would make Lady Macbeth take to the bed for blushing. How on earth did such a crafty street fighter get so completely trounced by such a naive rookie like Barack Obama in 2008? That Mrs. Clinton would up and disavow President Obama’s policy of ceding the entire world to evil forces — a policy she embraced and enforced for four years as his top

It’s official: Obamaism is dead. Hillary Clinton killed it. It wasn’t so much a mercy killing as an expedient one, but that’s politics in the best sense. The important thing is that she broke the Democratic omertà code by stating the obvious: The president’s policy of having America sit on the sidelines of a burning world is a disaster that threatens our national security. The power of her argument is confirmed by a report that a testy Obama called it “horses–t” to congressional leaders. Even guru David Axelrod blasted her, proving she scored a direct hit on the Chicago mafia’s central nervous

They understand what a greenhouse is, how it works, why we call it the greenhouse effect. They get it.” “If you accept the science,” Kerry continued. “If you accept that the science is causing climate to change, you have to

Going by the numbers, Apple fits into a stereotype of many tech companies in Silicon Valley: its workforce is overwhelmingly white and male. Overall, 70 percent of Apple employees are men as opposed to 30 percent women, and 55 percent are white, according to statistics provided by Apple. In addition, 15 percent of its overall workforce is Asian, 11 percent is Hispanic, and 7 percent is Black. An electrifying midterm rallying cry on a slow summer news day. Boehner, incidentally, isn’t one of the crappy-asses, she says. She doesn’t name names there, but she’s been known to diverge from grassroots conservatives in these matters before. What would happen, though, if Boehner turned around and made a deal with Harry Reid on amnesty in September? One of the goals of Obama’s looming power grab over legalization is to scare Republican leaders with the thought that Latino voters will be so grateful, they’ll break even harder for Democrats in 2016. SWAT teams and angry protesters clashed in a small St. Louis suburb for a third day Tuesday, following the death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The eruption of protests and violence has been a long time coming. While I certainly do not condone rioting, examining the conditions surrounding Brown’s death — and the deaths of several other unarmed black men killed by law enforcement recently — makes clear that community reactions like those in Ferguson, Mo., are bound to happen. America has continued to isolate poor black people in economically depressed neighborhoods under increasingly oppressive police tactics that breed

California lawmakers are poised to enact a regulation requiring every college and university that receives public funding to define consensual sex in a way that attempts to micro-manage everyone’s sexual affairs. The first-in-the-nation legislation already passed California’s state Senate by a vote of 27-4 in May, The Associated Press reports. If the bill passes the assembly this month, it will then go to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown. The bill, which is based on guidance from the Obama administration, requires an “affirmative consent standard” that school administrators would use to determine whether a sexual assault has occurred.
