Colorblind Harry Reid continues to divide
Review Journal [Las Vegas, NV], by Editorial

Original Article

Harry Reid is the da Vinci of distraction. The moment any scandal, policy failure or political defeat crashes down on him — and there have been plenty the past few years — the Senate majority leader unleashes outrageous rhetoric that’s better suited for a sandbox than what once passed for the world’s greatest deliberative body. Worse, the Nevada Democrat has become especially fond of slinging race cards just to crank up the outrage. Last week, Sen. Reid was in rare form following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn part of the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate. The 5-4 ruling declared

We can post from the LVRJ again? They threatened to sue L.com at one time. Glad to see this!

I think everybody here in Nevada knows that Harry Reid is demonstrating his decreasing mental acuity. He used to be a fairly decent man and senator, for a Democrat. Something happened at some point that drove him completely hard leftist.

Well, they cannot win by doing good for the country....so they have to trash those who really do good, otherwise, someone might notice or compare the difference and take REID and the rest of the SNAKES out of power.

Sorry, Obama Fans: Reagan

Supporters of President Barack Obama, such as one of his campaign donors Robert Deitrick, an Ohio financial advisor often quoted in Forbes and elsewhere, insist that the Obama economy has been much more robust than Ronald Reagan’s. Are they right? Let’s look at some numbers. President Reagan entered office in a period of high inflation which was stamped out by high interest rates that in turn led to the 1982 recession. His job-creation record after that may fairly be termed outstanding: nearly 20 million more Americans were employed when he left office than when the recession ended. Overall, including the recession

Sen. Rob Portman (R.,Ohio), trying to counter Democrats’ painting of the GOP as a party of “no,” said Thursday that he believed there were at least four things that the Senate could approve quickly if Republicans take control of the Senate this fall. Ticking them off in a breakfast with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, Mr. Portman identified these areas of “common ground:” 1. The Keystone XL pipeline. Support for the pipeline has been growing among red-state Democrats and when a nonbinding measure endorsing the project came to a vote in March 2013, the vote was 62-37 with 27

9/11 Truthers Are Even

Much has changed in the thirteen years since America was attacked. At least one thing has remained constant: the stupidity and futility of 9/11 truthers. The truthers don’t believe men with ties to an Islamist terror group hijacked airplanes and flew them into the twin towers or the Pentagon. In some cases, they don’t believe planes hit these buildings at all. At minimum, they maintain the government orchestrated or at least permitted the attacks. Writing about such bizarre conspiracy theorists may seem like an easy lay-up for a columnist, much like denouncing child molesters or praising puppies. Is it really worth it to

President Barack Obama and White House national security adviser Susan Rice met with a delegation of Christian Middle Eastern leaders in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that included at least one Hezbollah-supporting Lebanese cleric. The meeting came one day after Sen. Ted Cruz was booed off the stage for defending Israel while giving a keynote address at a conference for the same delegation of Christian leaders. The In Defense of Christians summit, which was aimed at raising awareness of persecution against Arab Christiansa, featured speeches by several Hezbollah supporters and some of Bashar Al-Assad’s most vocal Christian allies. Former President George W. Bush marked the 13th anniversary of 9/11 by speaking at a luncheon in Cleveland, where he voiced regret that the terrorist attacks turned him into a "wartime president." Appearing at a fundraiser for Cuyahoga County Community College, Bush offered up recollections from that fateful day in September 2001, which he began in Florida reading a storybook to schoolchildren. Repeating a story he has told frequently, Bush said he and his team initially thought the first plane that hit the north tower of the World Trade Center was an accident, according to WKYC: Minutes later, an aide informed him

In a stunning turnaround, the Obama administration is arguing that a law authorizing a war on al Qaeda be used to justify strikes on al Qaeda’s foes. President Obama’s new war against ISIS is off to a shaky legal start. Obama’s using the law that authorized attacks against al Qaeda to justify his new fight in Syria and Iraq. One small problem: ISIS and al Qaeda are at each others’ throats. Legal experts were shocked to learn Wednesday that the Obama administration wants to rely on that 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force against al Qaeda for the new ISIS war. “On

As if there were any doubt that the imaginary presidency of Barack Hussein Obama is over, the recent calamitous events leading up to this week’s ghastly speech — the only thing Obama knows how to do, apparently, is make a speech — have certainly dispelled them in all except the minds of the true believers and perhaps Michael Beschloss. Short on specifics (“coalition” of whom?), weak-kneed, lily-livered, dispassionate and uninspiring, Obama’s latest address to the nation should be the last time any American takes what the president of the United States has to say seriously. WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is on pace this year to deport the fewest number of immigrants since at least 2007, even as he has postponed until after Election Day his promised unilateral action that could shield millions more from deportation. According to an analysis of Homeland Security Department figures by The Associated Press, the federal agency responsible for deportations sent home 258,608 immigrants between the start of the budget year last October and July 28 this summer. During the same period a year earlier, it removed 320,167 people - meaning a decrease this year of nearly 20 percent. Over the same

That tearing sound you hear throughout the land is the rending of garments by anguished Democrats. In a day they surely never expected would arrive, President Barack Obama has a worse image than former President George W. Bush in the just-completed WSJ/NBC September poll. Of the three presidents tested, Bill Clinton remains the most popular. He has a 56% positive/21% negative rating. That’s not the key data point here. The last time 42 was below 50% positive was way back in December 2008. The last time Mr. Clinton was negatively perceived was June 2008. No, the big news from these data

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Berlin - President Obama´s declaration of war against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria marks a decisive break in the American constitutional tradition. Nothing attempted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, remotely compares in imperial hubris. Mr. Bush gained explicit congressional consent for his invasions (Snip) Mr. Obama may rightly be frustrated by gridlock in Washington, but his assault on the rule of law is a devastating setback for our constitutional order. His refusal even to ask the Justice Department to provide a formal legal pretext for the war on ISIS is astonishing.

As we suspected, President Obama tried in his Wednesday-night speech to make it sound like he was doing something new when he, in fact, he is not. Moreover, in describing his response, he made plain that he doesn’t take the threat to the homeland seriously. For a threat his advisers say is greater than that posed by al-Qaeda after 2001, he proposed measures suitable for Yemen and Somalia. No, really — that’s the plan. For starters, the president doesn’t believe the Islamic State is a current threat to the U.S.: “So ISIL poses a threat to the people of Iraq

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic." He didn´t say they are perverting their religion; he said they´re not even part of that religion.
