Americans living in Gaza are to be moved to safety as attacks between Israel and Palestine continue, and the death toll rises to 156. The evacuation is due to begin Sunday, and could take up to three days with 300 Americans expected to be among those removed to safety. The Americans are among 800 Palestinians who hold foreign passports and are due to leave, the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories, said. Gaza´s Interior Minister called on residents to stay in the city, and said the warnings of a need to leave were ´pscyological warfare´ from Israel.

London could be the scene of a Mumbai-style terrorist "spectacular" if Islamist jihadists get their way, British security chiefs have warned. There is growing concern that a list of "soft" targets is being drawn up, and that weapons and explosives have already been smuggled into the country. The Sun is reporting that the SAS has moved part of its anti-terror team to a forward base near London, amid concerns that a prolonged attack may be staged in that city. [Snip] Speaking to The Sun, a source said: "The nightmare scenario is they mount a spectacular attack at a high profile

ANKARA--Turkey´s foreign ministry on Monday summoned the US charge d´affaires, currently Washington´s most senior diplomat in Ankara, over a media report that the United States had spied on Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said. German magazine Der Spiegel said in an article on its website on Sunday that the US National Security Agency (NSA) and Britain´s GCHQ eavesdropping agency had carried out "wide-scale spying against Turkey", citing documents from the archive of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. Even by the standards of the Obama administration, it came as a moment of profound anti-climax. After days of breathless briefings that Barack Obama was preparing with international allies to take the fight to the Islamic State (Isil) jihadists in Syria, the president stepped forward to a White House microphone last Friday to announce that…um… well, that was not exactly true. U.S. President Barack Obama has been urged to take decisive action against the Islamic State amid concerns the terror group will target America. Obama was told by security experts that the country is facing a growing threat from militants, who have already taken control of vast swathes of Syria and Iraq. He was advised that these fighters are now looking toward the U.S. or Western Europe as their next targets, where they would likely ´kill with abandon´. It comes as Texas senator Ted Cruz has claimed that America should deal with the threat of ISIS by bombing them ´back to

Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from the airport of the eastern city of Luhansk following clashes with pro-Russian rebels, military officials say. The announcement came after the two sides were engaged in all-night fighting. Short of world war, it’s rare that a chief executive goes through a foreign policy month like President Obama’s August. Islamic State militants beheaded an American journalist in Syria and spread their reach across the Middle East. War raged between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. In Afghanistan, U.S. plans for an orderly exit at the end of the year teetered on the brink of disaster. Russia all but invaded Ukraine and dared Obama to stop it. Libya descended

It will take two decades to rebuild the thousands of houses destroyed during Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to a recent NGO report. At least 17,000 homes were obliterated or severely damaged during the conflict, with thousands more needing substantial repairs, according to an assessment by Shelter Cluster. More than 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed during the conflict. In addition 71 Israelis were killed – all but six of them soldiers. But the report on Gaza’s housing stock indicates inhabitants of the densely populated strip will face a severe infrastructural burden over the coming years.
