The fast rise of marijuana ‘schools’
New York Post, by William Rosenthal

I just want to say one word to you. Just one word: pot. Yes, it almost harks back to a classic scene in “The Graduate.” A growing number of schools offering courses in all things weed-related are trying to pull young people with the promise of newly created jobs in the booming medical marijuana field. The Northeastern Institute of Cannabis, in Natick, Mass., will start offering a 12-course program by September. Those who pay $1,500 for the privilege get a “cannabis industry certification.” To enroll, students must either have a high school diploma or a GED. Founded by marijuana activist Mickey Martin, the school is geared toward

Gaza City - Hamas claimed it captured an Israeli soldier Sunday on the deadliest day yet in the battle between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. Ron Prosor, Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, denied the report. "There´s no kidnapped Israeli soldier, and those rumors are untrue," he said. According to Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas´ military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, the soldier was taken during an early morning operation. He provided the supposed soldier´s name and ID. "He is a prisoner, and if Zionists lie about the dead and wounded, then the fate of this soldier is their responsibility," the spokesman said.

West Frankfort, IL - Police investigating the theft of clothing and jewelry from a southern Illinois boutique say they arrested a woman after she posted Facebook photos of herself wearing one of the stolen items. WSIL-TV reports that police arrested 27-year-old Danielle Saxton, of West Frankfort, earlier this month on misdemeanor retail theft charges. She’s free on her own recognizance. Authorities say a distinctive leopard-print dress was among the items stolen July 11 from Mortie’s Boutique in West Frankfort. The store’s co-owner, Kert Williams, says he posted about the stolen items on Facebook and that people who saw

The Lois G. Lerner emails released this month revealed a potentially huge loophole in federal open-records practices when an IRS tech staffer acknowledged that the agency doesn’t regularly store — and never checks — instant message chats as official government records. Analysts say there is no question that the Internal Revenue Service and all other federal agencies should be storing chats and even cellphone text messages that may constitute official government documents, but a check by The Washington Times suggests that hardly any agency is doing so. Of 17 agencies surveyed by The Times, just two said they had policies

Denver - Wherever Dr. Ben Carson goes, so does the grassroots army that’s trying to recruit him to run for president. Dr. Carson was a featured speaker Friday at the Western Conservative Summit, which prompted a platoon of local volunteers from the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee to shift into mobilization mode. There was a double booth in the vendor area of the Denver Hyatt Regency festooned with “Run, Ben, Run” posters. There were “Ben Carson for President” hats, buttons, T-shirts and bumper stickers. There were petitions urging Dr. Carson to seek the presidency in 2016. “We’re getting a lot of

House investigators suspect the Obama administration catered to trial lawyers in the run-up to a proposal that would allow generic drug makers at times to change their labels without FDA approval. Digging into the matter, skeptical Republicans asked the agency in writing last week how they settled on the plan, because the shift would expose the generic drug makers to lawsuits from which they currently are immune. “It seems to us that the proposed rule is not designed to address a health or safety related concern; instead, it is designed to placate special interest groups and increase lawsuits,” Rep. It’s a Bizarro Cinderella story. Nineteen-year-old Colorado girl, Shannon Conley, meets thirty-two year old Tunisian terrorist online. He asks her to marry him. She enthusiastically accepts and allegedly pledges to devote her life, (between most likely having innumerable babies), to using her nursing skills to bring wounded terrorists back to health. There’s only one little hitch. This April, the U.S. Marshals showed up at Denver International Airport and arrested Miss Conley before she could hop aboard a jet bound for the Middle East. Miss Conley lived only a few miles down the road from me. She attended our local high schools,

A special intelligence adviser to Army Gen. David H. Petraeus during the 2007 troop surge says the terrorist leader now ruling over large swaths of Iraq and forcing Christians to convert to Islam has long been the most elusive big game for the U.S. “We had at least three times when we thought we killed [Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi],” said retired Army Col. Derek Harvey. “At least three times.” As an intelligence officer, Mr. Harvey acquired near-mythical status: He spent two decades studying Iraq, Saddam Hussein’s regime and the complex tribal networks that form the country’s political fabric. He had the ear of the top brass.

It is at times like these, when he is pushed kicking and screaming into the crucible, that Obama’s callowness shows. For his supporters, that jejune, jocular air has been a plus for almost six years. For the rest of us, it has served as a liability and an irritation. Yesterday, it became a wholesale embarrassment. On the perpetual-campaign trail, the pattern is familiar. Trotting up to the podium, the president fist-bumps the audience’s stragglers and smiles a toothy and humble grin at those who catch his eye. While speaking, he responds to obsequy with obsequy — “I love you too!” he

At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer
