"Seven Israelis die in Zikim," "Ten injured in Haifa after rocket explodes," "All of Tel-Aviv is in shelters," and "Hamas succeeds in causing malfunctions to the Iron Dome system," - these are just some of the headlines that Gaza residents have been hearing in recent days on Hamas radio and television broadcasts. But none of the news items mentioned above actually happened. Seven Israelis did not die in Zikim, instead it was five Hamas terrorists that died. No one was injured in Haifa, and Tel Avivians are still going to work, enjoying the beach and sitting at cafes, not locked in shelters. Night after night the popular Hamas TV

The cardiac arrest leading to Joan Rivers´ death happened as the comedian´s personal doctor began performing a biopsy on her vocal cords, a source close to the death investigation told CNN. A staff member at Manhattan´s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators that the doctor, who has not been publicly identified, took a selfie photo in the procedure room while Rivers was under anesthesia, the source said. Rivers, 81, was at the clinic for a scheduled endoscopy by another doctor, gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen. That procedure, intended to help diagnose her hoarse voice and sore throat, involved the insertion of a

Washington: The US Defence Department program accused of fuelling the militarisation of local law enforcement is stirring controversy again, this time for providing equipment and weapons to school police. Law enforcement agencies affiliated with at least 120 schools, colleges and universities have received gear through the program, according to a Washington Post review of data from 33 states. The items received include at least five grenade launchers, hundreds of rifles and eight mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles, the hulking machines designed to withstand the kind of roadside attacks seen in Iraq and

Major corporate sponsors are dishing out some heat to the NFL over its handling of domestic violence issues and other recent scandals — but most so far have stopped short of pulling their advertising. Budweiser became the largest and latest sponsor to speak out, saying Tuesday it was "disappointed and increasingly concerned" by the scandals. (Snip) While it fell shy of yanking its sponsorship, the strongly worded statement by the U.S. division of brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev NV said it was "not yet satisfied with the league´s handling of behaviors that so clearly go against our own company culture and moral code."

Republicans have found a way to combat Democrats’ “war on women” strategy by calling for more open access to contraception, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Tuesday. GOP Senate candidates have made inroads in North Carolina and Colorado by saying the answer to this year’s Supreme Court decision ruling that companies cannot be forced to pay for employees’ contraceptive care is to make birth control medications available over the counter without a prescription. Pro-choice activists and Democrats have vehemently rejected that, arguing that birth control pills will actually become more expensive if offered over the

Istanbul, Turkey - American journalist Steven Sotloff began his last journey into Syria with a surprise gift for his fixer, Yosef Abobaker. It was a small camera. Two vehicles, Boeing´s CST-100 and SpaceX´s Dragon V2, will launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida and take Americans into low Earth orbit, before docking with the ISS. Each company will run between two to six missions, carrying teams of four astronauts per mission. The report ends months of speculation about what company or companies would win the contract,

Washington - The current threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, will test not only the resolve and strategic judgment of America and its allies, but also our nation’s fidelity to a basic constitutional principle. Our Constitution reserves to Congress the power to declare war and designates our president as the commander in chief, but our recent history has been characterized by executive overreach and legislative abdication in the initiation of military action. The current crisis gives us an opportunity to restore the proper balance between the branches. America’s history since 2001 should compel us to fix the way

And the threat is so real that federal law enforcement officers have been placed at a heightened state of alert, and an American military base near the border has increased its security.
