Employers Try to Get Seattle to
Reconsider Its $15 Minimum Wage

National Review Online, by Celina Durgin

Seattle’s plan to dramatically increase the minimum wage is going to be unsustainable in the long term and is already costing jobs and raising prices, business owners say. Seattle businessmen lead by Forward Seattle, a non-partisan organization representing independent businesses, collected about 19,500 signatures to put a referendum on the city’s minimum wage ordinance on this November’s ballot. Several of the petitioners have said their businesses cannot withstand the ordinance’s schedule for increasing the minimum hourly wage, which will boost it from $9.25 to $15 in as few as three years for the largest employers. Some petitioners had tried unsuccessfully to

Seattle has become a magnet for stupid people and allowed a Marxist woman to het voted onto the city council - it is not business friendly and rents/property prices are going through the roof. Too bad, it used to be a pleasant city - but it won´t be long before it competes with other failed cities like Detroit, Baltimore, East St Louis and Philly.

Next up for Seattle: A bruising lesson in Econ 101.

This will not end well for Seattle.

But we already knew this a while back.

Life is hard. It´s even harder if you´re stupid.

Business people need to be talking between themselves...sure, honor the idiotic minimum wage, in fact, argue that it should be $50.00 an hour or what´s wrong with $100.00 an hour? Then just raise prices accordingly. $6.00 Starbucks? Nonsense...How about $23.75 a latte? $12.50 a loaf of bread? $38.99 a lb for hamburger meat! Or how about a $19.99 McDonalds burger. See how they like them apples (apples $1.99 a lb? NO! --$17.29 a lb!).

The ONLY time increases to the minimum wage work is in a long-term very strong economy and the increases are small ($1 or so an hour maximum). Check the records.

But this is neither. 6 years of the horrors of Øvomitnomics, combined with extremely large increases in the minimum wage, are a formula for economic disaster.

And the people who will be hurt the most are those making minimum wages, since a sizeable number of them will lose their jobs. And the remainder will be working substantially harder than they do now. Add to that how many will lose their jobs to more qualified applicants with better educations and work histories who will now be more than happy to flip burgers for $15 an hour.

Lie-beralism is a mental disorder characterized by a total lack of being able to apply logic or reason or facts to any subject. All lie-berals understand are feelings -- whoa, whoa, whoa feelings...

Too bad!

I partially blame business for the sorry state of economic ignorance on the part of the electorate.

Most business don´t discuss politics, economics, business practices or how and why business do what they do. In almost every company that I have ever worked at, management implements policies without ever explaining why. They never explain why of how higher costs for products, regulatory compliance, wages or benefits etc etc affect a business. As a result, MOST employees assume that the company is just rolling in cash and that they work for greedy employers.

If you run a business or are a manager, you have a responsibility to enlighten your employees to the facts of life, business and economics. Whining about legislation and election results after the fact is a day late and a dollar short.

Sooooooooooooooo ........ for you business owners and managers who operate in secret and done explain realities to the voters who will screw you in a heart beat, you have no one to blame but yourself. Suck it up cupcake....and shell out some more cash.

And for the record, the GOP´s record of EDUCATING the electorate is abysmal.

When Vice President Joe Biden’s son, R. Hunter Biden, joined the board of a private Ukrainian oil and natural gas company this spring, he explained his new job as a legal one, disconnected from any effort to influence the Obama Administration. (snip) But the company, Burisma Holdings, did not disclose at the time the scope of their plans for influencing the U.S. government. Recently released documents show that Biden’s hiring coincided with the launch of a new effort to lobby members of Congress about the role of the company in Ukraine and the country’s quest for energy independence.

After President Barack Obama breathlessly addressed four different foreign-policy issues during a 10-minute statement, he summed up the state of a crisis-filled world in one sentence. "We live in a complex world and at a challenging time," Obama said. Obama touched on the laundry list of global flashpoints situations during a statement from the White House on Wednesday — the disputed elections in Afghanistan, the negotiations on Iran´s nuclear program, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and, finally, the conflict in Ukraine. The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those

In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

Thanks to our friends at Washington Free Beacon, you’ll never have to watch a Barack Obama speech again. Reason being, this 76-second video shows you everything he’s going to say. He will: Tell you it’s great to be back in whatever town he’s in. Tell you to have a seat – twice. Appreciate the introduction. Love you back. Recommend building more roads and bridges. Say the economy grows from the middle out. Say the wealthy have to “pay their fair share.” Blame Republicans in Congress for everything. Encourage you to vote rather than boo.
