United Auto Workers:
Chattanooga´s Creepy Stalker

American Spectator, by David Allen Martin

Have you ever gone on a couple dates with someone, but then decided it just wasn’t going work out? It’s a tough spot to be in, especially when you know they are totally into you and you have to be the one to call it off. Chattanooga was in that position in February of this year with the United Auto Workers (UAW). Ever since Volkswagen opened its American manufacturing headquarters in Chattanooga in 2011, the UAW has been the city’s heavy-breathing suitor. Give them this: the union has been very persistent. Caving to their determination, Volkswagen finally agreed to go on

This is a messy triangle.

The firm and the union want a tryst, but too bad the firm is already married to the WORKERS who hate the interloper.

If VW does bargain with the UAW under these conditions, they (vw)would be in violation of the national labor relations act, of 1935.

Like government, unions redistribute wealth. The difference between market wage, and ´prevailing´ wage, is a tax on customers.

Unions must control entire industries to survive. Japanese imports took a huge chunk of the auto industry. The result: Flint and Detroit are now ghost towns.

Orman hiring of former DSCC hand

For the last three weeks, Republicans have scrutinized and criticized Greg Orman´s political past. Now they´re doing the same to his political present, looking for any sign of prior partisan leanings in his major supporters and campaign hires. And that´s usually a given among any seasoned campaign hand. So the independent Senate contender´s hiring of a former Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee staffer as his new spokesman set off a fresh round of grousing from Republican strategists claiming the move as evidence he is a Democratic stooge masquerading as a nonpartisan trailblazer. For Orman, who is looking to unseat Sen. Pat

And it only took them two weeks to realize their error! It seems that the Paper of Record had no record of the broad coalition built by George W. Bush for the 2003 invasion of Iraq, including ground troops from more than a dozen nations, when it attempted to explain the difference between the approaches of Bush and Barack Obama on war in Iraq and now Syria. On September 11, the Mark Landler article included this curious sentence: “Unlike Mr. Bush in the Iraq war, Mr. Obama has sought to surround the United States with partners.” Two days later, the

It was only a matter of time before anti-terror authorities reported that radicalized American or immigrant Muslims had returned home to the U.S. after taking up arms with ISIS in Iraq or Syria. A ranking Obama administration aide revealed as much on Monday, setting the stage for what must be unflagging surveillance, a drive to prosecute the returned jihadists to the fullest and a rewrite of federal law and policies to raise defenses. The rule should be: If you go to Syria or Iraq to fight as an unauthorized civilian, you are not coming home to the U.S. Responding to the White House

GOP legislators want President Barack Obama to explain his planned amnesty for illegal immigrants before Americans vote on Nov. 4. “Rather than attempt to hide these actions from the American people until after the midterm elections, Americans should be given the chance to come to their own conclusions… [so] they can then exercise their constitutional right to petition the federal government and let you know their opinions,” said the Sept. 20 letter from 22 GOP legislators. Obama announced in June that he would reduce enforcement of immigration law by the end of summer. He made the statement after GOP leaders told him

Why beheading?
Boston Globe, by Jeff Jacoby    Original Article

ISLAMIC STATE has made the beheading of victims a key element in its campaign of terror and conquest. Most conspicuous in recent weeks have been the murders of Westerners James Foley, Steven Sotloff, and David Haines, whose severed heads and decapitated bodies have been shown in threatening videos produced by the jihadists. In the years since 9/11, other Islamist terrorist groups have circulated equally ghastly beheading videos. Among the earlier victims were journalist Daniel Pearl, businessman Nicholas Berg, and construction contractors Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong — all Americans beheaded by Al Qaeda. Last week, meanwhile, Australian police arrested 15 suspects

UN climate change: Obama gives

This week, President Obama and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will frame the discussion at the U.N. as a simple way to confront the rising tides effecting coastal and island countries. There will be much talk from wealthy and developed nations about not ignoring these problems while poor and underdeveloped countries will eagerly agree to any action plan that includes money. But the two sides have very different goals. American and European liberals see the climate change debate, as well as the U.N. Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) discussion, as an altruistic response to their global public policy concerns. United Nations

Des Moines, Iowa -- For a small band of supercharged Democratic organizers, the pleasant Des Moines neighborhood of Beaverdale goes by another name: Obamadale. The moniker was bestowed three years ago by a motley crew of Democrats who first met as strangers over martinis at a local restaurant in the early days of President Obama´s re-election bid, brought together under the aegis of the "neighborhood team" model that defined the campaign´s bottom-up volunteer structure. Led by Kimberley Boggus, a bubbly 33-year-old nursing student, and Sam Reno, a 42-year-old no-nonsense construction crew supervisor, the platoon of volunteers eventually managed to turn

DAMASCUS, Syria-- The Syrian foreign ministry said Tuesday that Washington informed Damascus´ envoy to the United Nations before launching airstrikes against the Islamic State group in Syria, attacks that activists said inflicted casualties among jihadi fighters on the ground. The ministry issued a brief statement, carried by Syrian state media, saying that "the American side informed Syria´s permanent envoy to the U.N. that strikes will be launched against the Daesh terrorist organization in Raqqa." The statement used an Arabic name referring to the Islamic State group, which seized large chunks of Syrian and Iraqi territory in a blitz this summer. The airstrikes hit

The shifting politics of foreign policy has scrambled the calculations for both parties ahead of the November elections. It has put some Senate candidates, unaccustomed to talking about national security issues, in an uncomfortable position, while elevated others with military experience and foreign policy bona fides. Candidates´ past votes, comments and even their biographies are emerging as huge opportunity in key Senate races, while emerging as glaring vulnerabilities in others. And in Arkansas, where Democrats hoped to exploit war-weariness among the public against hawkish GOP Senate nominee Tom Cotton, the terrorist attacks from ISIS have suddenly changed the mood in the

Before we get sucked into the next constitutional adventure on which the Prime Minister has launched us, it is really important to spend a few moments meditating at the graveside of the Yes campaign. The United Nations Climate Summit will begin in New York this Tuesday, but environmental activists didn’t wait. All day Sunday, they filled the streets of Manhattan for a march that featured Al Gore, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, and various Hollywood actors. But they certainly didn’t act like a movement that was winning. There was a tone of fatalism in the comments of many with whom I spoke; they despair that the kind of radical change they advocate probably won’t result from the normal democratic process. It’s no surprise then that the rhetoric of climate-change activists has become increasingly

Confronted by a reporter asking if he would give up his phone and car, the environmental lawyer became visibly irate before grabbing the microphone and accusing her of ´destroying democracy´ as a member of the press. Clinton met with Alinsky several times in 1968 while writing a Wellesley college thesis about his theory of community organizing. Clinton’s relationship with Alinsky, and her support for his philosophy, continued for several years after she entered Yale law school in 1969, two letters obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show. It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.
