Singapore backs call to destroy

SINGAPORE — A children´s book inspired by a real-life story of two male penguins raising a baby chick in New York´s zoo has been deemed inappropriate by state-run Singapore libraries, and the conservative city-state´s information minister said he supports the decision to destroy all copies alongside two other titles. The National Library Board, which runs 26 public libraries in Singapore, pulled from the shelves and said it would "pulp" the copies of three titles, citing complaints their content goes against Singapore´s family values. The books are "And Tango Makes Three," about a male-male penguin couple in the Central Park Zoo;

Bravo! Like Russia, they are trying to keep their children from being "groomed" by homosexuals.

Let the US be the beacon of freedom for LGBT (and other qu**r causes) in the world.

Agree with other posters -- I would never have expected to become a "book burner" but the publishing industry and movies are geared toward making homosexuals the good guys in our culture. There is hardly a book published recently that doesn´t have a warm, fuzzy gay character or two. It´s particularly true of my library´s book club selections. Anyone want to bet that there is some plot to subvert middle-class, middle-age suburban housewifes?

The homosexual lobby is fueled by a LOT of money and moving toward an unjustifiable end by means of an unjustifiable method. They want what they want, and if it is over your dead body and soul, so be it.

Wednesday, First Lady Michelle Obama said that American women are suffering under "harmful cultural norms" at a U.N. education event. Mrs. Obama said, "Women here are still woefully underrepresented in our government and the senior ranks of corporations. We still struggle with violence against woman and harmful cultural norms that tell woman how they are expected to look and act."

“For low-income students, the problem is poverty. Until we solve that, they’ll never realize their potential in school.” We’ve all heard this argument—it’s knowing, realistic … and dead wrong. Of course, poverty throws up huge obstacles. And then great schools help students clear those barriers away. That’s the major message of Megan Sweas’s new book, Putting Education to Work, about the Cristo Rey Network of 28 Catholic high schools, on whose Board of Trustees I serve, and from which hail seven current Franklin & Marshall College students. And this message was echoed last week by Jane Genster, a senior leader

Translations reveal Amazons´ names such as Don´t Fail and Hot Flanks hidden in ancient "nonsense" inscriptions. Ancient Greek vases have revealed the hidden names of Amazons, mythology´s warrior women, in a report deciphering ancient languages unspoken for millennia. In the forthcoming study of pottery dating from 550 B.C. to 450 B.C., study lead author Adrienne Mayor and J. Paul Getty Museum assistant curator David Saunders translated Greek inscriptions into their phonetic sounds for 12 ancient vases from Athens. The inscriptions appear next to scenes of Amazons fighting, hunting, or shooting arrows.

Canadian researchers: “Of all personality measures, sadism showed the most robust associations with trolling.” They come in all shapes, forms, manners of caps lock, and misspelled profanity, but one thing’s certain: no one likes an internet troll. Internet trolls are the thorn in the side of most people who dare to express an opinion on the internet. Trolls are the people completely disinterested in honest debate, but love to hit and run. They comment on blog posts, news articles, Facebook posts and anywhere else the internet provides a forum for their psychosis to be displayed in all its demented glory. Here

Suddenly, a spate of Republicans have come out in favor of over-the-counter contraception—putting Democrats in a tight spot politically. Making birth-control pills available without a prescription has become an unlikely midterm-election issue. Even more surprising is that the idea is mostly being pushed by Republicans. Democrats are in the unusual position of pushing back hard, insisting the move would actually limit access and breathlessly reminding voters, We´re the ones who´ve cared about women all along! The bickering over the details about how such a plan might work and whose concern for women is more sincere obscures a pretty amazing fact:

Some 70% of Americans do not designate the Obama administration as friendly toward religion, according to a Pew poll released Monday. The share of Americans that sees the Obama administration as friendly toward religion took a dramatic drop to 30% from 37% in 2009. The percentage that rates the administration hostile to religion increased from 17% in 2009 to 29% in the latest poll. These findings come from a new survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted Sept. 2-9 among 2,002 U.S. adults. Some of this suspicion of Obama seems related to the administration’s perceived hostility toward religious liberty, manifested

This has been a big year for gay rights in America. In state after state, either judges or voters have affirmed the constitutionality of same-sex marriage, and public support for gay unions reached an all-time high. But there´s still a tension between the acknowledgement of gay rights and the acceptance of gayness itself. A new Pew poll on religion in public life found that exactly half of respondents said they consider "homosexual behavior" sinful, a five-percentage-point increase since May 2013. This view is most prominent among white evangelicals and black protestants; more than three-quarters of each group said they see

President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. On Tuesday, shortly after announcing to the American public that the United States was now bombing ISIS in Syria, the President of the United States flew to New York to address the United Nations – on climate change. His speech mixed high-flown sentiment with apologies for America, and pledged American sacrifice in the name of a lofty goal without evidence that such sacrifice would in any way contribute to attaining that goal. In other words, it was a typical Barack Obama whirligig. Even as American warplanes struck targets in Syria, even as regimes tottered in Jordan and Iraq and Yemen,

Although Mr. Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize just eight months into office, the president made his annual trip to the ineffectual world council to deliver a call to war. “Ladies and gentlemen, we come together at a crossroads between war and peace,

So this video of The View’s women grappling with the Obama administration’s response to ISIS terrorism is noteworthy. I want to highlight O’Donnell’s contribution near the end: We are bombing Syria because Syria has so much oil, so there is a “financial incentive.” What the Hell is this supposed to mean? Why are liberals obsessed with oil? And what, exactly, is the “financial incentive?” Here is the
