Obama, Translated

Dear Reader (but not including those of you who merely pretend to read this “news”letter. Like the president, I’m not interested in photo-ops.),Obama, Translated -I think I’ve stumbled onto a handy heuristic — or, if that word makes you want to smash my guitar on the Delta House wall, rule of thumb — for listening to Obama. Whenever he talks about himself, immediately flip it around so he’s saying the opposite. Think about it. “I’m not interested in photo-ops.” Boom. Translation: “I think photo-ops are really, really important. And that’s why I’m not going to have my picture taken with

Forgive me for going off thread, but at the heighth of morning caffiene i must proclaim: The Goldbergs are a national treasure at a strategic time in our Country´s history. I know many of us are cognizant of this and sometimes it feels so pleasant to just say it.

Much like Clinton. With Bubba, you had to finish the sentences during the pause he put in to do that. For example, -

I did not have sex with that woman (standing over there.)

Miss Lewinsky (on the other hand...)

Nice analysis, but things can be simplified:

1) Everything he says is political.

2) The a priori assumption is that he is lying.

If it is too hard for you to think of a cool black guy actually destroying the country, then think of a souless robot programmed for the same mission. Easier.

Justice Department denies reports

Chicago Tribune, by Jeremy Gorner    Original Article

The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday denied media reports that federal authorities were investigating the Chicago Police Department over shootings by its officers. The reports were prompted by a letter that appeared earlier this week on a popular police blog in which a lawyer who represents Chicago cops accused of misconduct said the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office were probing police shootings of unarmed individuals. But in answer to a reporter’s question at a news conference in Washington, a top aide to Attorney General Eric Holder denied knowledge of any investigation of the department. “We do not have any investigations into

U.S. Payroll Rise Is Weakest This

American employers hired fewer workers than forecast in August and the jobless rate dropped because people left the workforce, bolstering those on the Federal Reserve who want to be more deliberate in removing monetary stimulus. The 142,000 advance in payrolls was smallest this year and lower than the most pessimistic estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists after a revised 212,000 gain in July, figures from the Labor Department showed today in Washington. The median projection called for a 230,000 increase. The unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent last month from 6.2 percent, reflecting a drop in joblessness among teenagers.

Dick Cheney slams Obama in

Former Vice President Dick Cheney can be a polarizing figure even six years out of office. The Wyoming State Bar invited Cheney, a prominent Republican with deep Wyoming ties, to be keynote speaker at its annual convention next week. Some lawyers are objecting, both to Cheney´s selection and to how the bar announced his appearance. The state bar is a quasi-governmental entity that administers the legal profession using some taxpayer money. In its announcement of Cheney´s speech, it published an unedited biography submitted by Cheney in which he criticized President Obama, saying he weakened the United States´ security posture. The biography

Veteran newswoman Barbara Walters wrote a column for the Daily News Friday memorializing Joan Rivers who died the previous day at 81. In the barefaced eulogy, Walters says there are “a few things that are important to know” about Rivers. Among them, “She wasn’t a great beauty and she didn’t have great success with men.” Rivers married twice in her life, with the first marriage ending after six months and the second one ending in the husband’s suicide. More from Walters’ eulogy: Her stage act was very raunchy. She would make fun of herself. Make fun of her looks. Make

NEW YORK, United States - Breitbart London can exclusively reveal that UKIP leader Nigel Farage and News Corp Chief Rupert Murdoch met in private this week, following hotly on the heels of Douglas Carswell MP´s defection away from the Conservative Party and into Team Farage. The meeting took place at Murdoch´s private office in the NewsCorp building in Manhattan after Mr Farage had finishing taping segments for the Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto shows. Breitbart London can report that following a live interview at the Cavuto show, the host paused for an advertisement break, turned to Mr Farage and said,

President Obama’s approval rating has sunk to an administration-low 38 percent, Gallup pollsters said Thursday. It was the seventh time Obama hit the 38 percent mark, the pollsters said, speculating the latest dive may reflect global strife. “We have the situation in Russia, we have the situation in Syria and we have the situation of Americans being beheaded by ISIS,” said Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport. Since Gallup began keeping track, every president’s approval rating has fallen below 40 percent at times, except Dwight Eisenhower’s and John F. Kennedy’s.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) has denied Democrat Chad Taylor’s request to be removed from the Kansas Senate ballot. His Thursday decision means Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) will face three candidates on the ballot this fall — Taylor, independent Greg Orman and libertarian Randall Batson — boosting the vulnerable senator’s reelection prospects. Now, Taylor could siphon off enough anti-Roberts votes from Orman, who’s been surging in the race and is now seen by Democrats as their best shot to take Roberts down, to deliver the senator an opening for a win. Kobach told reporters that, after evaluating state

Landsea — which builds about 12,000 houses a year in mainland China and also develops in Hong Kong and Germany — comes to the U.S. amid signs that the red-hot market at home is cooling off. Barack Obama stands apart from other modern American Presidents in many ways. (snip)the widespread view that he is the coolest President ever. This supernal coolness is not new. In his autobiography, Dreams From My Father, the President wrote that in his teenage years “I tried my best to be cool at all times” (p. 82). However, leaving aside the contradiction inherent in trying to be cool, it is possible that Barack Obama’s teenage experiences may have left him psychologically, and perhaps even neurologically, incapable of performing fundamental tasks of his current position. It was only a few weeks ago that Gannett did the same. USA Today is Gannett´s flagship publication and enjoys the highest circulation of any other American newspaper. FRIENDSHIP, Maine -- Imagine Cape Cod without cod. Maine without lobster. The region´s famous rocky beaches invisible, obscured by constant high waters. It´s already starting to happen. The culprit is the warming seas - and in particular the Gulf of Maine, whose waters are heating up faster than 99 percent of the world´s oceans, scientists say. Long-established species of commercial fish, like cod, herring and northern shrimp, are departing for colder waters. Black sea bass, blue crabs and new species of squid - all highly unusual for the Gulf - are turning up in fishermen´s nets. The Gulf of Maine´s warming reflects broader

The home-cooked meal has long been romanticized, from ’50s-era sitcoms to the work of star food writer Michael Pollan, who once wrote, “far from oppressing them, the work of cooking approached in the proper spirit offered a kind of fulfillment and deserved an intelligent woman’s attention.” In recent years, the home-cooked meal has increasingly been offered up as the solution to our country´s burgeoning nutrition-related health problems of heart disease and diabetes. But while home-cooked meals are typically healthier than restaurant food, sociologists Sarah Bowen, Sinikka Elliott, and Joslyn Brenton from North Carolina State University argue that the stress that
