Thirteen green-and-yellow Harley-Davidsons and a single black Cadillac Escalade roared down the old Airline Highway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, passing the ruins of an abandoned sugar factory and the plumes of still-operating oil refineries. The bikers—scruffy middle-aged guys representing the Shriners Masonic charity organization—paid traffic rules no mind; they took up both lanes, weaved in and out of each other´s paths, and ushered the Escalade through red lights at 60 mph, sirens blaring. Whenever the motorcade blew through a light, an elderly man in the Escalade´s front passenger seat—dressed in a

As governor, Edwards set the tone, example, and means for statewide corruption. He was the "model" for unethical behavior which influenced the conduct Louisiana´s local governments. That was the nature of his "leadership."

He was and is,IMHO, a sociopath.

Obama presides over unraveling of his

President Barack Obama entered office in 2009 with an undeniable mandate to bring about a swift but favorable conclusion to the Iraq War. But by the time the president entered office, combat operations in Iraq were already winding down. By the middle of 2008, the “surge” strategy and a political offensive resulting in the “Anbar Awakening” had greatly reduced internecine violence. Iraq was on a path toward reconciliation and, it was hoped, stability and peace. “The surge had undoubtedly met its stated aim of buying the time and space necessary for the Iraqi government to advance national reconciliation and, at

There was always something "other," something "outsider" about the Marx Brothers—they seemed to belong to an entirely different universe, not only from the other actors in their movies, but from each other. The members of many comedy teams, like Olsen and Johnson or the Ritz Brothers, were so similar you often couldn´t tell them apart. Others may have had physical contrasts—Laurel and Hardy, say, or Abbott and Costello—but those still seemed to be two halves of a whole. The Marxes, on the other hand, could have been members of three separate teams: one visual, one verbal and the other ethnic

Hillary Clinton left her post at the top of the U.S. State Department on Feb. 1, 2013, but the federal government spent more than $55,000 on travel expenses related to her book tour just last month, procurement documents show. The expenses included a $3,668 charge for her to enjoy a single night´s lodging in a suite at the posh Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris. That rate corresponds to the cost of a suite with a ´large and superbly appointed marble bathroom,´ a ´deep soaking tub,´ ´sparkling chandeliers´ and ´elegant period furniture,´ according to the Four Seasons website. Ukrainian officials said Tuesday that 280 trucks thought to be carrying humanitarian aid from Russia to the war-torn eastern Ukraine city of Luhansk would not be allowed to cross the border between the two countries. Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine´s National Security and Defense Council, said the convoy would not be allowed to pass because it had not been certified by the Red Cross. Lysenko also showed a covertly filmed video appearing to show vehicles similar to the white-canopied trucks dispatched from Moscow on Tuesday parked at a military base in Russia. For conservatives who are concerned that the Obama administration is out of control, there is only one real way to stop it. And, no, it’s not impeachment. It’s the power of the purse. There is only one way to exercise that power: by Republicans, who already have a majority in the House of Representatives, gaining control of the U.S. Senate. Like last year’s hurricane season, which had some stiff winds but no major storms, this year’s primary season has not blown down any Senate incumbents. This result puts the Republican Party in a good position to recapture the upper chamber and finally be able

It is hard to exaggerate the drama or the stakes of the leadership battle now playing out in Baghdad. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is desperately clinging to power, even summoning elite troops to the Green Zone where the government is based. Yet many in his own Dawa party are deserting him. Enough Shiite politicos have turned against Maliki that his own State of Law slate (a larger grouping of Shiite parties which includes Dawa along with others) has nominated another candidate–Haider al-Abadi–as prime minister. Iraq’s president has now asked Abadi to form a government, which he has 30 days to

While the president and his family enjoy a lavish getaway in tony ?Martha’s Vineyard, the woman who wants his job is also indulging in a glitzy summer vacay. Hillary and Bill Clinton spared no expense for their digs in the Hamptons — shelling out a cool $100G for a three-week stay in one of America’s most exclusive summer destinations. It is such common sense as to be undeniable that basic journalism requires a party label to be affixed to a story about an elected public official, the president excepted. It is the DNA of the “who” in a news report. “Senator Robert Byrd, the Democratic senator from West Virginia, died today.” Take out “Democratic” and try that sentence. It doesn’t work. “Mike Lee, GOP senator from Utah and God’s gift to mankind, coasted to reelection last night.” Ditto. It follows that the rule applies to stories about political scandal, precisely because it’s just that — politics. But what happens when

There was a time not so long ago when President Obama boasted of how he had “ended” the Iraq War. It was, in his telling, a sign of his stalwart fidelity to his word. A video produced by his 2012 presidential campaign was titled “Ending the War in Iraq: A Promise Kept.” His Web site said in December 2011: “This month, President Obama is making good on his promise to bring the last American troops home from Iraq in time for the holidays.” The president portrayed the complete withdrawal of US troops as testimony to his exemplary political character. “You know I say what

The president who spent years touting the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq suddenly has had to distance himself from that action. At the White House on Saturday morning — less than 48 hours after authorizing airstrikes against Islamist militants and humanitarian air drops to save the lives of trapped Iraqi civilians — President Obama blamed his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the absence of American troops in Iraq and rejected the assertion that he could have left a small peacekeeping force in the war-torn nation. President Obama must really be teed off. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his once-loyal secretary of state and his likeliest successor, has gone rogue, criticizing his foreign policy as too timid. Obama responded with not one but two rounds of golf. Clinton, in an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg published by the Atlantic over the weekend, offered a withering comment on the Obama doctrine, described in shorthand by White House officials as “don’t do stupid [expletive].” Said Clinton: “Great nations need organizing principles, and ‘Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle.” As the criticism became public, Obama was doggedly sticking with

Never mind that Alexander spent nearly his entire primary campaign trying to convince voters that he was against "amnesty" and would never dare to embrace it before the primary election. “I don’t know how it will affect our politics in the near term," Alexander told Politico of a comprehensive immigration bill. “I think it’s embarrassing for us not to deal with the problem, and
