Democrat Congressman: Tax Drivers

While the House and the Senate this week issued measures intended to temporarily replenish the Highway Trust Fund before it runs out of money next month, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) ended the week by proposing to hike - then abolish - the federal fuel tax and replace it with a per-mile “fee.” “The policy development that I’m most excited about and that will reinforce the right practices for the future: After we raise the gas tax, we should abolish it,” Blumenauer said on Friday at the liberal Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. “The time is right to replace the gas tax, because it’s no longer an accurate reflection of road

It is bad enough that the gas tax pays for interstate highways which I rarely use but making it a mileage tax on local roads to pay for interstate roads, horrible. To say nothing of the privacy issues.

Isn´t it odd how the Democrats just don´t connect. Use the cigarette tax for medicaid but when you raise it you get less revenue because people smoke less.

Insist that we drive "green" cars and then whine because the tax revenue falls.

You get less of what you tax! Get it???

They tax tobacco so high that people either stop smoking or get it on the black market & then they cry tax receipts are down.

They push high mileage cars & hybrids and then cry the tax receipts from gas is down. No kidding! Don´t any of them understand cause & effect. They sure know how to avoid Truth or Consequences.

once raised such a tax will never go down nor be abolished. we will be burdened with a gas AND mileage tax.As for infrastructure...most if what i see are large outdated traffic flow displays sprouting up all over the place. My android gives mw better traffuc data for free. the feds waste dollars in ways we cannot imagine. they have record tax revenues but it is never enough. That said i would be in favir of a very high bike road tax. those scofflaws use my roads whuch are veing partioned into bike only lanes. time they pony up somecash. stick it to the ekectric cars as well i say

The purpose of the mileage tax, as this Democrat well understands, is not to raise tax revenue, but to keep you off the roads and keep you in your place place. A subservient electorate is a happy electorate.

let us have a mileage tax on electrics and hybrids since they need to pay their fair share but not on gas and diesel cars since we are already paying our share. Also, stop using the highway fund to pay for urban mass transit.

I´d like to disagree, the fuel tax is set at a certain rate, and the government collects ´more´ tax money the higher they drive the price of Gasoline with their crazy environmental laws.

Actually the tax rate needs to go down because they are collecting too much money and wasting it transporting illegal criminals around the country.

Then parallel to that philosophy is to start charging school taxes only to those families that have kids. I´m childless and dont like the fact that 55% of my property taxes are school taxes...in the thousands of $$/annually... If I HAD kids they would have to go to parochial school anyway, so.... Why do I have to pay school taxes til I´m 70?

Driving to baseball stadiums is an example of discretionary driving that would get the ax with a tax per mile. Millionaire and billionaire Major League Baseball owners are among the biggest proponents of the radical left green agenda, have converted baseball teams into vehicles for selling American guilt and green scams. They´re actively promoting the death of baseball.

In early June 1964, a group of Republican governors sought to wrestle control of their party from Barry Goldwater, the Arizona conservative who was about to lead the GOP to one of the most crushing defeats in its history. The governors saw a disaster in the making, and sought a moderate candidate who could capture the imaginations of grassroots Republicans—but also beat President Lyndon Johnson in the general election. I know a lot of people are giddy at the prospect of Republicans taking the Senate this November, but that’s becoming less and less likely. It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, is defined as the physical, sexual or psychological harm caused by the current or former intimate partner. Since the 1970s, concern regarding the issue began in response to the women´s movement. Most of the traditional studies looked at the abuse women faced from men in heterosexual relationships. But, the latest study by Northwestern Medicine scientists found that domestic violence is more common among same-sex couples and excess stress raises the risk of this abuse.
