Get ready for Saturday night’s
big, bright ‘supermoon’

NEW YORK — The full moon on Saturday will appear to be unusually big. In fact, it will be a “supermoon.” That’s the nickname for full moons that happen when our celestial neighbor is relatively close to Earth. That distance varies because the moon follows an elliptical orbit. When it’s close and full, it appears bigger and brighter than normal, although in fact the difference can be hard to detect. If you see Saturday’s moon close to the horizon it may seem huge, but that’s just an illusion caused by its position in the sky. Two other full moons this

California Governor Jerry Brown has signed AB 1014, the legislation allowing "temporary" confiscation of firearms via "Gun Violence Restraining Orders" from persons "determined by the courts to be a threat to themselves or others." Breitbart News previously reported that the legislation containing "Gun Violence Restraining Orders" was put forth by State Assembly members Nancy Skinner and Das Williams, both Democrats, following Elliot Rodger´s May 23rd Santa Barbara attack. The new law allows families to petition a court for the seizure of guns from a family member, and then empowers police to confiscate firearms from that family member. According to the

A whistleblowing Border Patrol agent alleges that the Department of Homeland Security ignored health and safety concerns in attempting to transport illegal immigrants to a facility in Murrieta, Calif., the site of a high-profile confrontation between DHS and local citizens this past summer. In a whistleblower disclosure document obtained by National Review Online, the agent alleges that the federal government knowingly transported illegal immigrants to facilities that were unequipped to process them; disregarded repeated warnings from a Border Patrol agent about the public-health risks posed by the immigrants, many of whom were suffering from infectious diseases; rejected multiple offers of

HOUSTON, Texas -- The ambulance crew that transported America’s first Ebola patient to the hospital has been placed in quarantine as a precaution. The quarantine is a precaution to make certain no one else is exposed in the event the crew became infected during transportation of the patient. The city of Dallas said the crew took all safety precautions during the transport process. “Our firefighters are in quarantine,” said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings in an interview with NBC 5 in Dallas “that took this guy to the hospital.” “We will place them into isolation per Dallas County and CDC recommendations,”

(Video) The chances George Clooney becomes president of the United States may be small, but they are growing. William Hill, the world’s biggest bookmaker headquartered in London, has halved the odds of the star actor becoming U.S. president in his lifetime, from 200/1 to 100/1. The change comes following hints made by family members that he and new wife Amal Alamuddin, a London-based lawyer, activist and author, have political ambitions. Clooney is now at 20/1 odds that he’ll join the 2016 presidential race, with a 500/1 chance he’ll win it. By comparison, Democrat Hillary Clinton is the favorite at 5/4

The GOP´s Senate fortunes seem to have taken a step forward over the last week or so, with polling showing Republicans leading in eight contests over Democrat-held seats (AK, AR, CO, IA, LA, MT, SD, WV) -- and within striking distance in three more races (MI, NC, NH). The party must gain six net seats in November to demote Harry Reid and reclaim the upper chamber majority. But one match-up in the heartland is giving Republicans unexpected heartburn. President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flack since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper. Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. The Obama administration found itself scrambling on Tuesday to defend President Barack Obama for his lackluster 42% attendance record on daily intelligence briefings, a finding from a new report issued by the non-partisan Government Accountability Institute (GAI). When asked about the GAI revelation on Fox News, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki appeared flustered and unprepared. "Well, I have no validation of those statistics," said Psaki. "There are a range of ways that you can get your intelligence briefings on the road, in the White House, and I know that he receives those whenever he can."

The sympathetic news media is avoiding mentioning his name, instead they are blaming the lack of a football intro for the massive collapse in ratings Sunday night for President Barack Obama’s appearance on CBS’ 60 Minutes. Americans turned away from watching Obama even though he was being interviewed about the nation’s new war on ISIS. For example, Deadline Hollywood didn’t even mention Obama’s 60 Minutes interview when reporting on the drop in viewers. “With no football lead-in, CBS’ Sunday lineup fell from last week. Just two weeks into the new season of “The View,” co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg tore into each other during a commercial break — in front of their stunned studio audience. The spat erupted Thursday after Goldberg interrupted O’Donnell to go to a commercial break before the mother of five was finished commenting in a “Hot Topic” discussion about spanking children on the ABC gabfest. O’Donnell refuses to wear an earpiece to stay in contact with producers while the live show is airing, so she had no clue it was time to stop talking.

Sacramento, Calif. - Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed legislation imposing the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags, driven to action by a buildup of litter and damage to aquatic ecosystems. A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015. Under SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of large grocery stores starting next summer and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The law allows grocers to charge a fee of at least 10 cents for using paper bags. State Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Los Angeles,
