Polar vortex to hit US with
midsummer cold blast

New York Post, by Chris Perez

It’s the revenge of the polar vortex! A frigid cold air system will be moving through the eastern United States next week, leading to intense weather conditions reminiscent of last year’s dreaded polar vortex. The approaching weather system is expected to bring overwhelmingly below-average temperatures to parts of the northern and northeastern US next week, beginning Monday or Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. States located in areas such as the High Plains, the central US and the Great Lakes could see temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below their current averages. That means people normally dealing with scorching temperatures sometimes

Comments:
I just checked my "weather bug" for 10-day forecast. No vortex temps showing up during that time. It´s barely reached the high 80s so far this summer.

It´s 98 here today. The sun feels good after a morning in air conditioned hibernation, but a polar vortex would be a nice change.

Low 80s here by midweek, unheard of for July in Middle Tennessee. Usually 90+ like it will this weekend.
I welcome the moderate temps.

The speech by former US Vice-President Al Gore was apocalyptic. ‘The North Polar ice cap is falling off a cliff,’ he said. ‘It could be completely gone in summer in as little as seven years. Seven years from now.’ Those comments came in 2007 as Mr Gore accepted the Nobel Peace Prize for his campaigning on climate change. But seven years after his warning, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that, far from vanishing, the Arctic ice cap has expanded for the second year in succession – with a surge, depending on how you measure it, of between 43 and

DUNDEE, N.Y. — Five years after it exploded into a political conflagration over “death panels,” the issue of paying doctors to talk to patients about end-of-life care is making a comeback, and such sessions may be covered for the 50 million Americans on Medicare as early as next year. Bypassing the political process, private insurers have begun reimbursing doctors for these “advance care planning” conversations as interest in them rises along with the number of aging Americans. People are living longer with illnesses, and many want more input into how they will spend their final days, including whether they want

The meeting was attended by a number of Western diplomats and UN representatives. Following the meeting, Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai´s envoy, Bishop Boulos Sayyah, read the statement aloud,

Explaining that he had to consult Congress and check the pulse of Americans, Obama stated, “I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We don’t have a strategy yet.” Which begs the question: what the hell does this guy do for a living? It will take two decades to rebuild the thousands of houses destroyed during Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to a recent NGO report. At least 17,000 homes were obliterated or severely damaged during the conflict, with thousands more needing substantial repairs, according to an assessment by Shelter Cluster. More than 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed during the conflict. In addition 71 Israelis were killed – all but six of them soldiers. But the report on Gaza’s housing stock indicates inhabitants of the densely populated strip will face a severe infrastructural burden over the coming years.
