Amazon Is Serious
About Drones, Asks FAA For
Permission To Start Test Flights

Forbes Magazine, by Gregory S. McNeal

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 7/11/2014 10:53:01 AM

Washington - Amazon wants to start flying their drones, moving from what some called a PR stunt, to a true delivery business. But to do that, they need to conduct test flights. Today, the company formally requested an exemption from Federal Aviation Administration rules that largely prohibit the use of drones for commercial purposes. The request was posted to Regulations.gov, the official government website for comments on regulatory matters. Amazon’s letter should draw attention to FAA regulations which to date have received very little official commentary from an industry still struggling to find its voice.

Comments:
Ever think that a terrorist organization wouldn´t steal and control one or more of these company owned drones for attacks on US? Civilian use of these type of drones is a bad idea.

Cities and towns may have to reconsider that "Drone Shooting License" idea. Think of the added revenues! *wink*

The IDF suffered its first casualty in Operation Protective Edge at 4 a.m. on Friday as the army commenced its ground offensive into Gaza. Two more soldiers were lightly wounded. IDF units seized positions in northern, central and southern Gaza, and traded fire with terror organizations overnight, (Snip) The source described the resistance encountered by the IDF as "low," adding that the massive wave of fire launched by artillery and air strikes before the entrance of ground units help ensure that Hamas "kept its head down." "Hamas was surprised by the patience of the Israeli public, and by the performance of Iron Dome," the source said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is denying reports that his government had reached an agreement to reopen the Lourdes electronic eavesdropping base in Cuba, which once monitored a broad range of U.S. communications. “We closed this center in agreement with our Cuban friends. We do not intend to renew its activities,” Putin declared in a statement published on a Kremlin Web page. The Moscow newspaper Kommersant on Tuesday quoted unidentified sources as saying that Russia had agreed to reopen the Lourdes base near Havana, unleashing concerns about U.S. relations with both Havana and Moscow.

Jon Stewart was exactly right during the open of his Monday show this week: The world really has gone mad. (Snip) President Obama has faced the same kind of criticism in regards to his reaction to big events as well. But in Mr. Obama’s case, there’s an unsettling and dumbfounding pattern that has clearly emerged: The need to attend fundraisers as important events–the kind of events that call for the President to return to the White House Situation Room for monitoring and assessment of said events while being debriefed by military brass and talking with our allies, including Israel–unfold in real time. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israeli Defense Forces to “prepare for further expanding the ground operation in Gaza if needed,” according to Haaretz correspondent Barak Ravid. As of 12:17 a.m. local time, Israel will call up an additional 18,000 reservists, bringing the total number of Israeli troops at the Gaza border to 60,000, according to the Guardian. Just when you thought enough political news had broken in one day. ABC News is reporting that the White House has been placed on lockdown, with reporters being told to remain in the press area. According to Jon Karl, a White House reporter for ABC, the lockdown was caused by an "unattended package" that was found along the North Lawn fence. The commercial break couldn’t come soon enough. MSNBC’s coverage of downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 took an awkward turn when a Howard Stern fan pranked “The Cycle” anchor Krystal Ball with a bogus eyewitness account. “Well I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern’s ass,” the man told Ball, who thought she was speaking with Sgt. Baghdad - A powerful Iranian general has emerged as the chief tactician in Iraq’s fight against Sunni militants, working on the front lines alongside 120 advisers from his country’s Revolutionary Guard to direct Shiite militiamen and government forces in the smallest details of battle, militia commanders and government officials say. The startlingly hands-on role of Iranian Gen. Ghasem Soleimani points to the extent of the Shiite-led Iraqi government’s reliance on its ally Tehran. It also strikes a strong contrast with the more methodical, cautious approach of the United States, Iran’s rival for influence in Iraq. Shiite fighters have come to

Looking for a place where Obamacare doesn´t exist? Try moving to the U.S. Territories, where the Obama administration just provided a pretty big waiver from the law´s major coverage provisions. The Affordable Care Act´s design dealt a pretty big problem to the territories. It required insurers there to comply with the law´s major market reforms — guaranteed coverage, mandated benefits, limits on profits, etc. — without requiring residents to get coverage or providing subsidies to help afford coverage. The territories — Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands — have been

After President Barack Obama breathlessly addressed four different foreign-policy issues during a 10-minute statement, he summed up the state of a crisis-filled world in one sentence. "We live in a complex world and at a challenging time," Obama said. Obama touched on the laundry list of global flashpoints situations during a statement from the White House on Wednesday — the disputed elections in Afghanistan, the negotiations on Iran´s nuclear program, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and, finally, the conflict in Ukraine. The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those

Witnesses at the hearing argued about whether the House has standing to sue the president to enforce the law. “I’m very optimistic that this lawsuit will succeed,” Rivkin said in an interview. “I certainly expect there to be a propaganda offensive to

Say the economy grows from the middle out. Say the wealthy have to “pay their fair share.” Blame Republicans in Congress for everything. Encourage you to vote rather than boo.
