USDA Hires Environmentalist Food
Activist to Oversee Dietary Guidelines

Washington Free Beacon, by Elizabeth Harrington

Original Article

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has hired an environmental nutrition consultant to oversee its Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which has already faced criticism for introducing climate change into nutrition policy. Angela Tagtow was named executive director of the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, which oversees the committee in charge of creating new federal nutrition standards. A “good food” activist, Tagtow founded Environmental Nutrition Solutions, whose mission is to change the food system by making it more “sustainable, ecologically sound, [and] socially acceptable.” She formerly was the endowed chair for the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture. Tagtow explained her

Thursday on MSNBC´s "José Díaz-Balart," Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) said President Barack Obama should use an executive order and grant amnesty to an estimated 5 million illegal immigrants already living in the United States because it will "quell some of the unrest" caused by "racial overtones" of anti immigration rhetoric. He said, "Latinos that are fourth, fifth generation -- they see this as a civil rights issue." Grijalva said Obama´s amnesty, "Will quell some of the unrest that we are seeing in our communities and the racial overtones that continue to build around this issue." He explained, "The issue of immigration that

The UN Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting today as overwhelming evidence suggested Russia had sent troops to fight alongside separatists in Ukraine. Alarm has risen as a top NATO official said at least 1,000 Russian troops had entered Ukraine and had been in direct ´contact´ with Ukrainian soldiers. Ukraine´s president Petro Poroshenko today accused Russia of sending troops into the country as he abruptly cancelled a trip to Turkey to meet his top security officials. The Kiev leader, who changed his plans shortly before leaving Kiev´s Boryskil airport, had demanded an urgent meeting of the UN security

In yet another demonstration of contempt for the Constitution, President Obama and his administration are pursuing what the New York Times characterizes as a “sweeping international climate change agreement to compel nations to cut their planet-warming fossil fuel emissions”—absent any input from Congress. The Constitution requires a two-thirds majority approval by the Senate to ratify any legally binding treaty. The Obama administration plans to sidestep that requirement by calling the agreement a “politically binding” deal that would substitute for an actual treaty. It would consist of voluntary pledges, combined with obligations from a 1992 U.N. treaty known as the United

CULLMAN, Ala. — California is looking to bar the “Stars and Bars.” A bill sits on Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk to ban California from displaying or selling the Confederate flag or objects with images of it. The state’s Legislature passed the bill nearly unanimously last week. Assemblyman Isadore Hall III, D-Compton, introduced the legislation after his mother discovered the Capitol gift shop sold a replica of Confederate money that contained a picture of the flag, according to the L.A. Times. The lone dissenting vote among the 67 cast was from former California GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly of Twin Peaks. He argued

Following a poll obtained by Politico yesterday that showed 50% of women voters had a negative view of the Republican Party, Daily Rundown host Chuck Todd asked RNC Chair Reince Priebus if the reason the GOP couldn’t appeal to women and minority voters was that the party was infested with crazy white dudes (and their boat-shoed progeny). “When it comes to women voters, do the arguments about contraception end up putting the party on mute with those same women voters who may like your economic proposals, but say, ‘There’s just too many crazy white guys who have too many crazy

Sessions blasts Dems for ‘silence’

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) chided Democrats for their “roaring silence” over a possible executive order from President Obama on immigration policies. “As a result of this executive amnesty, millions here illegally will be able to compete for any job in America — taking jobs needed by American workers,” Sessions said on Wednesday. President Obama is considering the extension of worker visas to nearly 5 million undocumented immigrants, some of which are parents to U.S. children. Sessions said the “roaring silence” from Senate Democrats was “astounding.” Sessions said this action would harm U.S. workers by giving their jobs away to foreigners.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Thursday he expects President Obama will take executive action on immigration, but warned that if he doesn’t “go bold,” he risks alienating the Democratic base while invigorating Republicans. Trumka also said that workers were frustrated with the president and Democrats more broadly for failing to focus on issues important to them. The president “started off really well with focusing on income inequality” at the end of last year, Trumka said, but he “hasn’t stayed aggressive enough” on those issues — and the failure to engage there has workers turned off on the midterms. A detailed report commissioned by two major Republican groups — including one backed by Karl Rove — paints a dismal picture for Republicans, concluding female voters view the party as “intolerant,” “lacking in compassion” and “stuck in the past.” Women are “barely receptive” to Republicans’ policies, and the party does “especially poorly” with women in the Northeast and Midwest, according to an internal Crossroads GPS and American Action Network report obtained by POLITICO. It was presented to a small number of senior aides this month on Capitol Hill, according to multiple sources. Republicans swore they’d turn around the party’s performance with

District Judge Alvin Hellerstein in New York ruled the U.S. Department of Defense had failed to show why releasing the photographs would endanger the lives of American soldiers and workers abroad. So why does it take a whopper of a story to get the media to pay attention? Burger King, as you know, is moving to buy the Canadian chain Tim Hortons, and this is more about dollars than doughnuts. The hamburger giant plans to move its headquarters to Canada, thereby slashing its Treasury tax bill. The White House doesn’t like it. Democrats don’t like it. The Republicans don’t like it. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.— Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist continued his political comeback Tuesday as Democratic voters selected him as their nominee to challenge Republican Gov. Rick Scott in Florida, one of four states where voters were choosing candidates for statewide office. Crist easily defeated former state Sen. Both have struggled with sagging approval ratings and run-ins with conservatives. “It’s a wonderful night,” Crist declared after accepting a concession call from Rich. A ´supercavitating´ submarine creates a bubble of air that encompasses the whole vehicle by ejecting gas through the nose with enough force that it forms water vapor. This greatly reduces drag and allows it to travel at high speeds not possible by standard submarines. It dazzled the masses when it hit, flexing nuclear-tipped missiles that completed the "nuclear triad" of deterrence. But other technologies soon surpassed it in terms of speed and agility.
