Immigration Reform Proponents

Roll Call, by Roy Beck

The effect on the congressional immigration debate after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s surprising primary loss should not be about whether to have reform, but whether that reform should be about increasing foreign labor or reducing it. Cantor represented the unanimous views of the leadership of both parties, which have only differed in how and how much to increase lifetime immigrants, guest workers and legalizations of unlawful foreign visitors. By stressing the opposite option — reductions in legal immigration — during his campaign against Cantor, victorious economics professor Dave Brat has suddenly given hope to the

I agree OP, this is an important method that would get Americans back to work. Hiring Americans first is what our country needs, not who can business pay the least.

Post WWI was the Harlem Renaissance blacks came north and got factory jobs, and some started quite successful businesses.

Same for Detroit, St. Louis, and Newark. Wages went up. These were good jobs.

Then you get the people who speak about "the "Golden Age of Immigration" show them Jaacob Riss´ "How the Other Half Lives." Ask them who they think that "other half" was?

It takes NO comprehensive immigration reform to close the border! It is already the law.
What good is another new law, when it will be ignored just like all the others.

Flashback: Obama Promises No Vacations

Weasel Zippers has revived an old video of Barack Obama promising not to take vacations if he were elected president. The video features then-Sen. Obama discussing his book “The Audacity Of Hope” with New York Times columnist Bob Herbert in 2008. The future president was talking about how those running for president need to be prepared to “give their life to it.” “The bargain that any president strikes with is, you give me this office and in turn my, fears, doubts, insecurities, foibles, need for sleep, family life, vacations, leisure is gone,” Obama said. “I am giving myself to you.” Obama went on to

If you’re a person of color hoping to get hired by a political campaign, here’s the ugly truth: You’ll probably get paid less than your white counterparts, if you’re even hired at all. On both sides of the aisle, there is a racial pay gap in campaign politics. Asian, Black and Latino staffers are paid less than their white counterparts, according to an analysis by the New Organizing Institute. For example, African-American staffers on Democratic campaigns were paid 70 cents for each dollar their white counterparts made. For Hispanic staffers in Democratic campaigns, the figure was 68 cents on the

There is growing outrage among sailors and religious liberty advocates over a directive that calls for the removal of Bibles from lodges and hotels run on U.S. Navy bases. The directive comes after an atheist group filed a formal complaint earlier this year over the placement of Bibles in the rooms. "The current direction is to remove all religious material from Navy Lodge guest rooms," read an email to a Navy chaplain from The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM). "For those Navy Lodges with religious materials currently in guest rooms, the Navy Lodge General Manager will contact the Installation Chaplain´s office

As the world watches the strengthening of global jihadist movements – from ISIS to al Qaeda to dozens of affiliated and like-minded groups – one of those inside the U.S. government who was most vocal about the growing threats is leaving his position. General Michael Flynn served as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency from July 2012 until last week. Throughout his tenure he challenged the Obama administration’s hopeful and inaccurate narrative about the war against al Qaeda and jihadists – pushback that doubtless contributed to his early departure from the agency. Flynn isn’t leaving quietly. In a fascinating interview

Monday on "CBS This Morning," former director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Morell contradicted President Barack Obama´s claim Saturday that bad "intelligence estimates" were the reason the administration did not anticipate the speed in which ISIS would capture large portions of Iraq. CBS´s Norah O´Donnell asked, "The president himself admitted over the weekend that this Islamist State militants advance is more rapid than intelligence estimates. Was this an intelligence failure or a policy failure?" Morell replied, "So I don´t think this was an intelligence failure. This is a classic problem in the intelligence world. There´s a difference

The decision by Sen. Never mind that Alexander spent nearly his entire primary campaign trying to convince voters that he was against "amnesty" and would never dare to embrace it before the primary election. “I don’t know how it will affect our politics in the near term," Alexander told Politico of a comprehensive immigration bill. “I think it’s embarrassing for us not to deal with the problem, and

When he was running for re-election in 2012, President Barack Obama repeatedly took credit for ending the war in Iraq and bringing all U.S. troops home from that country. The president who spent years touting the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq suddenly has had to distance himself from that action. At the White House on Saturday morning — less than 48 hours after authorizing airstrikes against Islamist militants and humanitarian air drops to save the lives of trapped Iraqi civilians — President Obama blamed his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the absence of American troops in Iraq and rejected the assertion that he could have left a small peacekeeping force in the war-torn nation. President Obama must really be teed off. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his once-loyal secretary of state and his likeliest successor, has gone rogue, criticizing his foreign policy as too timid. Obama responded with not one but two rounds of golf.
