Rick Perry, the new face of

Washington Post, by Greg Sargent

As the political war over minors crossing the border continues to escalate, Texas Governor Rick Perry met with President Obama yesterday and demanded that he beef up border patrols and seek changes to federal law that would expedite the removal of arriving minors. For his part, Obama prodded Perry to rally Congressional Republicans to pass the $3.7 billion in funding to expedite removals and provide care the president has asked for. In a good piece, Amie Parnes of the Hill observes that Perry “has seized the spotlight in recent days to become the national face of opposition to President Obama’s

I love it when one hack reporter finds wisdom in another hack reporters writing. It´s all Republicans fault, just ask Jackie Calmes. She´s smart, she writes for the NY Times. If Obama added a surge of Guard troops to his proposal it would probably pass. Perry should continue to attack. It´s not political.

Not yet. What did he actually accomplish yesterday? He still met the Emperor on the tarmac. Yes he vented a bit at a group meeting, but the Emperor simply brushed him off.

Perry may be the face of the TX GOP, but the GOP is no longer the "opposition". Let him join Sarah in calling for the Emperor´s impeachment, and we might reconsider.

Perry was diplomatic---a sitting governor doesnt attack the President. He said in as classy a way possible what the problem was. I think he handled it well, as best you can when dealing with an anachronistic 60´s ideologue

Yes to all your post #4 BUT
Gov. Perry is wrong to ask Obe to call out the National Guard. He not Obama is the Texas guard CIC. As W learned in Katrina the feds have no power to engage the National Guard unless they are called by the Governor to duty under the US Military.
Therefore Gov. Perry should confer with the other states enduring this invasion to join him in bringing in their guards.
Most GOP´s 30 Governors would act and it´s too bad CA. has Brown.
As to Obe countering with riot forces or the Fed military he could make the worst mistake of his life.
Note the black community is now voicing their anger toward the ONE over this mess.

If ANY GOPer was serious about this, including Rick Perry, they´d go to the border (Arizona, Texas and New Mexico) and do to Obama what Reagan did to Gorbachev. "Mr. Obama, do your constitutional duty, and secure this border." Instead Perry plays the sucker at his "meeting", Abbott is disappeared, the Texas congressional delegation champing at the bit to cross Perry´s hand with some of the $3.7 billion, Flyboy Rep. Jim Bridenstine is run off at the gate of a relocation center by a tee-shirt wearing "HHS official" at Fort Sill... What a bi-partisan joke this is on the American people who believe our sovereignty matters more than open borders. Shameful, just shameful.

I like Perry a lot. He covers social, economic and law and order issues in a consistent conservative manner. He has shown effective leadership of a big state for a long time.

I oppose impeachment at this time. The American people have not suffered enough yet under Obama and the Democrats to get it.

Amid the hysteria over the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., it might be lost that most black and white Americans believe they’re not out to get each other. A new Pew Research survey shows that 75 percent of whites and 64 percent of blacks say their groups get along together “pretty well” if not “very well.” It’s a bleaker view for Hispanics, 53 percent of whom say the same. Ferguson fell into the national media spotlight on Aug. 9 when Brown, who was unarmed and black,” was shot dead by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. A St. Louis grand jury is currently deliberating whether to charge Wilson of a crime.

Islamic State militants stormed a Syrian airbase over the weekend, routing the remaining elements of the country’s army from northern Raqqah province and reportedly seizing a cache of shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles. The seizure of Tabqa air base, while not the first installation of its type to fall to militants, highlights the Islamic State’s gains in the region and the group’s continued pilfering of advanced military equipment, particularly the surface-to-air missile systems known as MANPADS, short for Man Portable Air Defense Systems. Sheriff Joe Arpaio sent out this bitter attack on Barack Obama this morning. Arpaio accuses Barack Obama of leading an attack on the United States. The popular sheriff says President Obama is “rewarding criminals.” Our country is under attack. And Barack Obama is the aggressor. That’s right. Our own President has overseen the release of thousands of illegal immigrants…hundreds of whom are convicted criminals – even felons, which are flooding into America. Every day you read the newspaper or turn on the news, there is something tragic happening, something Obama says is beyond our control. But I must tell you:

AQUINNAH, Mass.- On the western tip of Martha´s Vineyard, bright clay cliffs and a red brick lighthouse draw visitors as they pile out of cars and tour buses and head up to this town´s scenic overlook. But the leaders of the Aquinnah Wampanoags, the federally recognized American Indian tribe whose ancestors first inhabited the island, envision a new destination. They´ve proposed transforming an unfinished tribal community center a few miles inland into a high-stakes bingo and poker hall filled with electronic betting machines. The idea horrifies some long-term visitors, residents and even tribal members, who see it as incongruous with the

Ask people to name a ranch in Texas and for some the answer would be Southfork, made famous by the TV show "Dallas." But the name they probably should know is Waggoner Ranch, created only four years after the Lone Star state became a state, reports CBS News correspondent Anna Werner. It´s the largest single ranch under one fence in the country -- some 510,000 acres. And for the first time since 1849, the property is going up for sale with a price tag of $725 million. According to the New York Times national editor who helped put together today’s piece about Michael Brown’s final weeks, there was some missing context in the outrage that has surrounded the line that calls the slain teenager “no angel.” As Alison Mitchell noted in a conversation with the Washington Post’s Erik Wemple, the words were a call back to the story’s lead, which mentioned Brown sighting an angel in storm clouds passing above his head. Below is the passage that has drawn sharp criticism Monday: Michael Brown, 18, due to be buried on Monday, was no angel, with public records

An Army official previously told Fox News that the lockdown was started by a ´disgruntled´ female shooter who is now in custody. According to Fort Lee´s verified Twitter account, the base was put into lockdown around 9:20am and personnel there told to enact active shooter protocols. "The federal anti-discrimination regulations have yet to be written, but California insurance regulators have said that companies must treat transgender patients the same as other patients," reports The Daily Beast. Here´s why: If your income for 2014 is going to be higher than you estimated when you applied for health insurance, then complex connections between the health law and taxes can reduce or even eliminate your tax refund next year. Sometimes a round of golf is just a round of golf. And sometimes it reveals the essence of a man. President Obama’s decision to hit the links and yuk it up with pals immediately after speaking about the beheading of James Foley was no ordinary mistake. Nor was it a simple gaffe. Democrat Michelle Nunn is running ahead of David Perdue in the race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia. The WSB-TV poll found that Mrs. Nunn has 47 percent to 40 percent edge over Mr. Perdue. The libertarian candidate, Amanda Swafford, received 3 percent, and 10 percent of the respondents were undecided. The winner of the race will replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss. Mrs. Nunn, the daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, is seen as one of Democrats best bets to flip control of a GOP-held seat. Republicans need to flip six seats to win back the Senate.
