IUD may carry higher risk for
breast cancer in certain women

Modern contraceptives have radically changed women´s lives, but they are not risk free. A new study out of the journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology finds the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) or progesterone-releasing IUD, may be associated with a higher than expected incidence of breast cancer. (snip) "It´s a great reminder that we need to weigh the benefits of some of these methods against the risks," said Dr. Angela Marshall, director of Comprehensive Women´s Health in Silver Spring, Maryland. "We need to educate our patients, because many of these therapies may work, but some could have serious side effects. Women need

Comments:
I read elsewhere that the drug levonorgestrel is also used in Obamacare covered Plan B. Do doctors discuss side effects for contraceptives? Do women even care about potential side effects?

The official party line is that although the number of breast cancer cases increase when birth control steroids became popular the real reason is just that more women got mammograms so more cancer was detected. pay no attention to the steroids - steroids are only bad for bike racers.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used to carry these risks but doctors believed that the risk was small compared to preventing a stroke.....well that theory died without much fanfare.

All living beings (except some primitive forms) 1)eat, 2)excrete and 3)reproduce. These systems are subtle beyond ways that we can imagine.

If you get in the way of any of those three, expected the unexpected.

The risks associated with all forms of birth control have been reported on extensively. Doctors are careful to inform patients of them. The risks associated with the pill and several other forms of birth control are very similar but smaller than the risks associated with pregnancy. Because of this women often opt for permanent solutions to the possibility of getting pregnant.

A year ago The View co-host Sherri Shepherd announced she and her husband Lamar Sally were going to have a baby using a surrogate. The procedure was to use Shepherd’s eggs and the womb of a stranger. Shepherd said at the time that she had found “a drama-free uterus” and that “we’re putting in our eggs and Sal’s sperm and we’ll let you know how it progresses.” It turns out not to have progressed very well either for a baby or for the marriage. TMZ reported this week that Shepherd’s eggs and Sally’s sperm did not work and that she

House Republicans are getting more traction with that idea than impeaching the president himself. enator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) and a group of House lawmakers are building a case for impeaching Attorney General Eric Holder. (snip) Gosar says the process should begin with the House taking a vote of no confidence in Holder, before the August recess (141 lawmakers have co-sponsored his no-confidence resolution). If, as is nearly certain, Obama were to ignore such a no-confidence vote and refuse to remove Holder during the August recess, then impeachment proceedings would begin in September, according to Gosar’s plan.

Under the guise of “protect[ing] women’s health from corporate interference,” the bill that Senate Democrats are proposing in response to the Hobby Lobby ruling would deprive religious entities of all religious-liberty protections against having the HHS mandate directly imposed on them. On Wednesday, Senate Democrats introduced a bill that would force Christians and other conscientious objectors to pay for drugs and devices, including the "week-after" pill, that may kill human embryos. The new bill was drafted in response to Supreme Court´s ruling last week that Obamacare´s so-called contraceptive mandate as applied to family-owned religious businesses was a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Democrats´ legislation would strip away the religious freedom law´s protections for Americans who provide health benefits to their employees. The text of the bill states that an

A student in Taiwan who kept a pair of disposable contact lenses in her eyes for six months has been left blinded after a microscopic bug devoured her eyeballs. The tiny single-cell amoeba ate away at undergraduate Lian Kao´s sight because she didn´t take out and clean the contacts once during that time. According to a warning issued by doctors the case was a particularly severe example of a young person under pressure who did not take the time to carry out basic hygiene on their contact lenses. As well as being regularly cleaned, contact lenses should also be removed when swimming and washing.

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton defended American political dynasties — including her own — arguing some families may just have a “predisposition” to become presidents. In an interview published Tuesday with Der Spiegel, Clinton batted down the notion that a succession of Bushes and Clintons in the White House would turn American politics into a monarchy. “We had two Roosevelts,” the former secretary of state told the German publication. “We had two Adams. It may be that certain families just have a sense of commitment or even a predisposition to want to be in politics.”

Liberals should spend less time lauding the dissents in last week´s Hobby Lobby decision by the U.S. Supreme Court and more time reading them. If they did, they´d notice that some of their main arguments find little support -- even from liberal justices. President Barack Obama´s administration has sought to require almost all employers that offer health insurance to cover contraceptives. The court´s majority ruled that Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and similar companies could refuse to cover contraceptives to which they have religious objections. Many liberals say that this ruling was flawed because the Religious Freedom Restoration Act -- the

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers
