IUD may carry higher risk for
breast cancer in certain women

CNN, by Val Willingham

Modern contraceptives have radically changed women´s lives, but they are not risk free. A new study out of the journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology finds the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) or progesterone-releasing IUD, may be associated with a higher than expected incidence of breast cancer. (snip) "It´s a great reminder that we need to weigh the benefits of some of these methods against the risks," said Dr. Angela Marshall, director of Comprehensive Women´s Health in Silver Spring, Maryland. "We need to educate our patients, because many of these therapies may work, but some could have serious side effects. Women need

Comments:
I read elsewhere that the drug levonorgestrel is also used in Obamacare covered Plan B. Do doctors discuss side effects for contraceptives? Do women even care about potential side effects?

The official party line is that although the number of breast cancer cases increase when birth control steroids became popular the real reason is just that more women got mammograms so more cancer was detected. pay no attention to the steroids - steroids are only bad for bike racers.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used to carry these risks but doctors believed that the risk was small compared to preventing a stroke.....well that theory died without much fanfare.

All living beings (except some primitive forms) 1)eat, 2)excrete and 3)reproduce. These systems are subtle beyond ways that we can imagine.

If you get in the way of any of those three, expected the unexpected.

The risks associated with all forms of birth control have been reported on extensively. Doctors are careful to inform patients of them. The risks associated with the pill and several other forms of birth control are very similar but smaller than the risks associated with pregnancy. Because of this women often opt for permanent solutions to the possibility of getting pregnant.

Jonathan Martin reports for the New York Times that John Walsh, who is now running to keep the Montana Senate seat to which he was recently appointed, plagiarized a master´s thesis in 2007: [O]ne of the highest-profile credentials of Mr. Walsh’s 33-year military career appears to have been improperly attained. An examination of the final paper required for Mr. Walsh’s master’s degree from the United States Army War College indicates the senator appropriated at least a quarter of his thesis on American Middle East policy from other authors’ works, with no attribution. Just 11 years ago, there were 1.5 million Christians living in Iraq. Since the U.S. war there, that number has plummeted to approximately 400,000 — and it is still falling fast. The chaos created by the U.S. invasion, occupation, and withdrawal, as well as the ongoing Syrian civil war and insurgent-fueled unrest in much of Iraq, has dramatically increased the persecution and pressure on Iraq´s Christians and other religious minorities. ISIS, the emergent Islamist terrorist group that spans from Syria into Iraq, has already taken over Mosul, Iraq´s second-largest city. They painted signs on the walls of Christian homes, meant

The officials briefed reporters Tuesday under ground rules that their names not be used in discussing intelligence related to last week’s air disaster, which killed 298

Islamist militants in Iraq are reported to have seized an ancient monastery near Mosul and expelled the monks. Local residents said monks at the Mar Behnam monastery were allowed to take only the clothes they were wearing. The monastery, which dates from the 4th Century, is a major Christian landmark and a place of pilgrimage. Christians have fled Mosul after the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis) told them to convert to Islam, pay a tax or face death. Isis has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq and said last month it was creating an Islamic caliphate.

The last Christians have left one of their holiest cities, running from ISIS demands to become Muslim or be slain—but as a final indignity, their money and even crucifixes were stolen. After being issued an ultimatum from ISIS in Mosul, some of the city’s last Christian families have fled, only to be robbed of their last possessions at ISIS checkpoints. Friday at noon was the deadline for Christian families to meet ISIS’s demands: Convert to Islam, pay an anachronistic Islamic tax for non-Muslims known as jizya, leave Mosul, or be killed. In scandal after scandal in the Obama administration, President Obama has said he didn’t know about the problems until he heard it on the news. In a potentially crippling blow to Obamacare, a federal appeals court panel declared Tuesday that government subsidies worth billions of dollars that helped 4.7 million people buy insurance on HealthCare.gov are illegal. The 2-1 ruling said such subsidies can be granted only to people who bought insurance in an Obamacare exchange run by an individual state or the District of Columbia—not on the federally run exchange HealthCare.gov. "Section 36B plainly makes subsidies available in the Exchanges established by states," wrote Senior Circuit Judge Raymond Randolph in his majority opinion, where he was joined by Judge Thomas Griffith.
