GOP Task Force, Lone
Democrat Eye Trafficking Law

Roll Call, by Emma Dumain

Original Article

The House GOP task force charged with making recommendations to colleagues on the influx of unaccompanied, undocumented immigrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border might suggest controversial changes to a 2008 trafficking law — and at least one Democrat wants to go that route as well. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas, a fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrat who made headlines on Wednesday for blasting President Barack Obama’s failure to visit the border during a fundraising trip to the area, said he would soon introduce legislation to allow all children apprehended at the southwest border to qualify for “voluntary return” to their home

While I think Rep. Cuellar is right on this, I can´t help but wonder if this is all a show to keep himself elected. Does he have a strong Republican running against him. And if reelected is he going to just back Pelosi 99 percent of the time.

In the end you have to ask yourself if you can really trust a Democrat. I haven´t since they circled the wagons to protect philandering Bill.

Cuellar´s district should be pretty safe for him. It goes from Wilson County or so down to the border. This district has, to my knowledge, always been in democrat hands. So I doubt he is taking a big risk here. But what people aren´t realizing is that many, many Texas Hispanics are not happy with what´s going on down at the border. In Texas, lots of Hispanics fought against Santa Anna in our Texas Revolution, and are often fierce American patriots. Cuellar is no conservative, but he is representing his district well here.

It´s a myth that legal Hispanics embrace any plan that includes amnesty for the illegals. I saw a survey a few days ago showing that a solid 1/3 of Hispanics nationwide are furious about the invasion on the border and what it says about the administration´s failure to prevent it.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, under the cover of the Mediterranean darkness, US warships quietly moved into place off the North African coast. We can’t say how many, but among them were a destroyer, the USS Ross, and a guided-missile cruiser, the USS Vella Gulf. At about the same time, three F16 fighter jets took off from Aviano Air Base in Italy and headed south, along with two MV-22 Osprey transport planes carrying a full complement of rapid reaction force marines from another US base in Italy, Sigonella. Surveillance drones circled overhead, and in support flew a KC-135

FORT WORTH, Texas – The U.S. has barred a shipment of Kurdish crude oil from reaching the Texas coast amid concerns independent oil sales from Kurdistan could further weaken Iraq´s fragile central government as it struggles to contain a Sunni military offensive. A U.S. District judge ordered a U.S. Marshal to seize the cargo — about 1 million barrels of crude oil, worth about $100 million — aboard the tanker United Kalavryta in response to a complaint filed by the Iraqi government claiming the oil was smuggled out of Kurdistan without its permission. However, the tanker, anchored some 60 miles off the

BAMAKO, Mali — The cash filled three suitcases: 5 million euros. The German official charged with delivering this cargo arrived here aboard a nearly empty military plane and was whisked away to a secret meeting with the president of Mali, who had offered Europe a face-saving solution to a vexing problem. Officially, Germany had budgeted the money as humanitarian aid for the poor, landlocked nation of Mali. In truth, all sides understood that the cash was bound for an obscure group of Islamic extremists who were holding 32 European hostages, according to six senior diplomats directly involved in the exchange.

When rumors started that Hollywood was thinking about remaking The NeverEnding Story, most people of my generation were incredulous that they would attempt to redo such a childhood favorite. Of course, now we fear a new version won´t be about a magical fairytale where a young boy goes on an adventure filled with unbelievable events but instead about the Republican primary for U.S. Senate — itself an adventure filled with unbelievable events. But as we wait for our own version of The NeverEnding Story to progress to the next chapter — i.e. will Chris McDaniel ever file a challenge to the election

And Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is fit to be tied. The Obama administration recently released 760 illegal immigrant children to sponsors in the Volunteer State without any warning, the governor charged. There was not so much as a text message or tweet. “It is unacceptable that we became aware via a posting on the HHS website that 760 unaccompanied children have been released by the Office of Refugee Resettlement to

Second-term presidents rarely achieve as much as they did during their four years in office, either because top aides tend to be off their political game or because of external events. Reagan´s second term team, for example, was greatly distracted by the Iran-Contra scandal. George W. Bush´s second term was consumed by Hurricane Katrina and the economic collapse of 2007. As a result, second-term presidents tend to spend their final days in the Oval Office with low public approval ratings and rapidly waning influence on the course of events. President Obama is certainly following the familiar path with approval ratings sinking into

NEW YORK- Americans have a debt problem. An estimated 1 in 3 adults with a credit history -- or 77 million people -- are so far behind on some of their debt payments that their account has been put "in collections." That´s a key finding from a new Urban Institute study. It examined non-mortgage debt, including credit card bills, car loans, medical bills, child support payments and even parking tickets. The debt in collections ranged from as little as $25 to a whopping $125,000. But the average amount owed was $5,200. Geographically, no area of the country is untouched. Among

The holiday is a Muslim one called "Eid-al-Fitr" and the statement says: his last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to

You can understand President Obama´s current political problems -- and how those problems could make things very tough for his party in this fall´s midterm election -- in a single word. And that word is "competence". Obama was elected in 2008 on a stated promise that he would restore competence to government. He pitched himself as the antidote to "Heck of a job, Brownie" and the Bush years, the person who would always put the most qualified candidate in every job in his Administration. That the basic functioning of government would never be in question. Almost six years on from
