Typhoon Neoguri, the worst storm to hit Japan in 15 years, is likely to reach areas near the tsunami-crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant by Friday morning, forecasters have warned. The site’s operator said workers were bracing for the storm, which has been downgraded from a typhoon to a ´severe storm´. “We are tying up cables and hoses... and making sure cranes and booms don’t fall,” a company spokesman said. “We will also beef up patrols in areas where water could flow in.” The storm’s massive downpours present an extra headache for the plant where workers are locked in a daily

If the water gets in and gets contaminated, they´ll just pump it into the Pacific, as they´ve been doing for over 3 years. No worries.

On Sunday the White House welcomed a controversial head of state who got his start as chieftain of a ´child army´ in a 1990s genocide, presides over the world´s biggest safe haven for rapists, and has been linked to the murders of human rights activists. Israel said the IDF will hold fire in most of the Gaza Strip for seven hours in order to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip and displaced Palestinians to return to their homes, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. During the cease-fire dozens of rockets were fired from Gaza on Israel, the IDF confirmed. Seventeen projectiles landed in Israeli territory or near IDF soldiers operating in Gaza, one rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome rocket defense system, and eight rockets landed in other areas of Gaza. There were no injuries or damage caused in the rocket

Rockets fell in open areas near Ashkelon at roughly 12:05 pm Monday, just two hours after Israel began observing a unilateral cease-fire. No injuries or damage were reported. [Snip] The seven-hour truce will last until 5:00 pm Monday, and excludes the Rafah area, where ongoing clashes have raged since Friday. The Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza (COGAT), General Yoav Mordechai, announced earlier that Israel will hold its fire in most of Gaza for a seven-hour "humanitarian window" on Monday. Mordehai also warned that "if the truce will be violated, the army will respond with fire toward

The owner of what is said to be the only such white Volvo truck in the Donetsk region of Ukraine has identified his lorry and said it was commandeered by separatists who took over his premises nine days before the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot of of the sky, killing all 298 people on board. Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) made headlines Monday, after he suggested Israel is considering turning Gaza over to the UN. "The operation is not over," he said, referring to a seven-hour unilateral humanitarian ceasefire and reports the IDF is slowly withdrawing from Gaza. "We are continuing to destroy terror tunnels and to regroup in the IDF." "We need to make decisions regarding the continued operation," he continued. "We stand at the moment with several clear options: an agreement, defeating Hamas, or limbo - something unclear where we only respond to fire. The third option simply isn’t relevant."

Israel says it will unilaterally hold fire in most of the Gaza Strip on Monday to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and allow some of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by an almost four-week-old war to go home. An Israeli defence official said the ceasefire, from 10am to 5pm (8am to 3pm BST), would apply everywhere but areas of the southern town of Rafah, where ground forces have intensified assaults after three soldiers died in a Hamas ambush there on Friday. The announcement follows unusually strong criticism from Washington at the apparent shelling of a UN-run shelter

Hebrew media has yet to officially indicate how the two were related, but the Hebrew phrase--karov mishpaha--indicates an immediate or otherwise very close family relationship between the two. The gag order was implemented on the family´s request, so as to not escalate the situation with Hamas in the event Goldin was alive and being held captive. Former Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank questioned President Obama’s honesty regarding the rollout of Obamacare in a recent interview. He told The Huffington Post on Friday that he was shocked at the mishandling of the new health care law. “The rollout was so bad, and I was appalled—I don’t understand how the president could have sat there and not been checking on that on a weekly basis,” the former Democratic congressman told the website. “But frankly, he should never have said as much as he did, that if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it. That wasn’t true. And you shouldn’t lie to people. And they just lied to people,”

That seems like an awfully strong word, but it is the term that distinguished law professor Glenn Reynolds, no hysteric, uses to describe the Obama administration’s oft-reported plan to issue executive amnesty to five or six million illegal immigrants in violation of federal law. Glenn’s characterization is a fair one. When a tyrant asserts the right to rule by decree in a state that has formerly been subject to the rule of law, he is commonly described as carrying out a coup d’etat. That is just what the Obama administration has done, and reportedly will continue to do. When Obama changed

White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett says Israeli strikes near civilian havens in Gaza were indefensible. "This is why the cease-fire is so important," Jarrett said in an interview aired Sunday on CBS´ "Face the Nation." "It´s a devastating situation. Israel absolutely has the right to defend itself, and we are Israel´s staunchest ally. But you also can´t condone the killing of all of these innocent children." President Barack Obama, she said, was concerned and frustrated by the ongoing violence despite efforts by Secretary of State John Kerry to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. "I think everyone involved is frustrated," Jarrett

The events of the past few weeks on America’s southern border bring into clearer focus the Obama pledge to fundamentally transform America. By opening our borders to illegal immigrants, and pardoning those illegals already here as he plans through executive order, Obama will create millions of new citizens within a few years to help him transform America into a multicultural vacationland for the world’s footloose homeless with free food, housing, education, entertainment, and healthcare as drawing cards.

The obsession by the Obama-Kerry administration with imposing a cease-fire on the warring parties in the Hamas-Israel war will go down in history as one of the most strategic mistakes in military history. Here is a fact the administration deliberately and maliciously ignored: In the history of modern warfare, no terrorist group has ever honored a cease-fire. Hamas has broken every cease-fire it ever said it would honor. Every single one. Even the Israel-Hamas 2012 cease fire, brokered by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was simply agreed to by Hamas to give it an opportunity to restock its military arsenal, pressure Israel

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama dismissed Russia as a nation that "doesn´t make anything" and said in an interview with the Economist magazine that the West needs to be "pretty firm" with China as Beijing pushes to expand its role in the world economy. (Snip) Russia is the world´s third-largest oil producer and second-largest natural gas producer. Europe relies heavily on Russian energy exports, complicating the West´s response to the Ukraine crisis.
