Pastors and churches have been banned from helping the thousands of illegal immigrant children housed in border detention facilities run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, clergy in Texas and Arizona tell me. “Border Patrol told us pastors and churches are not allowed to visit,” said Kyle Coffin, the pastor of CrossRoads Church in Tucson, Arizona. “It’s pretty heartbreaking that they don’t let anybody in there -- even credentialed pastors.” A public affairs officer for the Border Patrol confirmed that ministers and church groups have been banned from the Nogales Placement Center. “Due to the unique operational and security challenges of

What are they afraid of?

And what irony - terrorists get every imam they can dream of in their cells but child detainees, no.

They are afraid they will be exposed. Therefore, everyone must be kept out except the bureaurcrats who are running the show. It seems to me the entire government workforce has checked their integrity at the door and are willing to do what Obama tells them. It is time for people who work in government to refuse to comply. History has shown us what happens when people decide to ignore their conscience and just follow orders. Are Americans going to just go along to get along with no thought about what is right or wrong?

I hope someone can make the comparison between these immigration camps and the Japanese internment camps - especially the transparency or lack of it - then and now.

A vigil in response to the incident was scheduled for Tuesday evening in Los Angeles, said Officer Jane Kim, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. A woman who said she was the mother of the deceased told KTLA that the victim´s name was Ezell Ford. Montana Democrats Won´t Find Anyone

Jeff Bridges is, unsurprisingly, not planning on running for Senate, despite calls to draft him into the race. Luckily, there are a few people, including a rancher and a high school math teacher, running to fill the recently opened spot. Montana Democrats have been in the market for a credible senate candidate ever since Sen. John Walsh dropped out of the race last week, following revelations that he´d plagiarized his masters thesis. Lizabeth Pratt, a Montana businesswoman and former acquaintance of the Bridges (who also own a home in the state) launched a petition for the Dude´s run on Change.org last

Robin Williams dead at 63:

Losing Robin Williams hurts. Many millions of people loved him wholeheartedly. Others saw him as brilliant but a little too earnest, which now seems like a lovely offense. So the pain is widespread. It makes sense that we are talking about it in the media and on the Internet. But it is also a real problem. Mass celebrations of people who kill themselves, even beloved people, can send the wrong message and influence others toward hurting themselves. In recent decades, there have been many sociological studies that demonstrate what’s called suicidal modeling. A suicide at a school can lead to a spate of

The former deputy dean of MIT´s business school and his son agreed to plead guilty Tuesday to operating a $500 million hedge fund scam. Gabriel Bitran, 69, who taught at MIT for 35 years and served as deputy dean at the Sloan School of Business for five, allegedly lied to clients about the return on investments his hedge fund GMB Capital Partners was delivering. His son Marco Bitran, 39, a Harvard MBA, will also plead guilty to the same charges, said U.S. District Attorney Carmen Ortiz. The Bitrans falsely told clients that their hedge fund was delivering annual returns between 16% and 23%,

A man with a rare disease has shown scientists that there might be a different way to try to halt the devastating damage of Alzheimer´s disease. A mutation of the apolipoprotein E gene (apoE4) has been shown to raise the chances of developing the memory-robbing condition, and experts have wondered how dangerous it would be to treat the patients by eliminating the protein from the brain. Now, researchers report, the answer might lie in the unusual case of an ill man whose body doesn´t produce the protein at all. While the man has a variety of medical problems linked to a rare

NEW YORK -- Lauren Bacall had one of those incredible lives. The wife and co-star of Humphrey Bogart. A Tony Award-winning actress. A National Book Award-winning author. A giant of fashion. A friend of the Kennedys. One of the last survivors of Hollywood´s studio age. A star almost from the moment she appeared on screen to the day she died, Tuesday, at age 89, at a New York City hospital. "Stardom isn´t a career," Bacall once observed, "it´s an accident." What a lucky accident it turned out to be. Her career was one of great achievement and some frustration. The actress received a Golden Globe

On a pleasant Saturday this summer, Eric Holder, his daughters, their boyfriends and two security officers boarded a government-owned Gulfstream and jetted off to New York for the Belmont Stakes Thoroughbred horse race. Even for personal trips like this, the attorney general doesn’t fly commercial. For security reasons, Holder — like other top government officials — flies a government plane, though is required to reimburse taxpayers for airfare. According to records obtained by The Daily Caller through a Freedom of Information Act request, Holder is getting pretty good deal here — especially when he flies a government-owned Gulfstream V jet. Hillary Clinton’s recent efforts to distance herself from President Obama’s foreign policy may be generating a lot of attention, but nothing she is now saying about foreign policy will matter in the future. If history has taught us anything, especially when it comes to foreign policy, it’s that Clinton doesn’t have positions — she has positioning. When she wanted to appear tough on national security in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, Clinton happily voted in favor of authorizing President George W. Bush to launch a war against Iraq. But once opinion of the war turned sour – especially within the

Instead, on Saturday morning, August 2, Tillis stood gavel in hand in the state House chamber, presiding over the passage of a budget that kept lawmakers at work well into the summer. Now, finally, he is finished -- unless something else comes up to demand his time at the State Legislative Building. The president who spent years touting the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq suddenly has had to distance himself from that action. At the White House on Saturday morning — less than 48 hours after authorizing airstrikes against Islamist militants and humanitarian air drops to save the lives of trapped Iraqi civilians — President Obama blamed his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the absence of American troops in Iraq and rejected the assertion that he could have left a small peacekeeping force in the war-torn nation. He uttered those after three years, and a successful re-election campaign, in which

President Obama must really be teed off. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his once-loyal secretary of state and his likeliest successor, has gone rogue, criticizing his foreign policy as too timid. Obama responded with not one but two rounds of golf. Clinton, in an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg published by the Atlantic over the weekend, offered a withering comment on the Obama doctrine, described in shorthand by White House officials as “don’t do stupid [expletive].” Said Clinton: “Great nations need organizing principles, and ‘Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle.” As the criticism became public, Obama was doggedly sticking with

Never mind that Alexander spent nearly his entire primary campaign trying to convince voters that he was against "amnesty" and would never dare to embrace it before the primary election. “I don’t know how it will affect our politics in the near term," Alexander told Politico of a comprehensive immigration bill. “I think it’s embarrassing for us not to deal with the problem, and

It’s official: Obamaism is dead. Hillary Clinton killed it. It wasn’t so much a mercy killing as an expedient one, but that’s politics in the best sense. The important thing is that she broke the Democratic omertà code by stating the obvious: The president’s policy of having America sit on the sidelines of a burning world is a disaster that threatens our national security. The power of her argument is confirmed by a report that a testy Obama called it “horses–t” to congressional leaders. Even guru David Axelrod blasted her, proving she scored a direct hit on the Chicago mafia’s central nervous

President Obama got angry at lawmakers who suggested in a private meeting that he should have armed the Syrian rebels, calling the criticism “horseshit.” The argument that America should have done more in Syria, made for years by foreign policy leaders in both parties and several members of Obama’s senior national security team, was brought back to the fore this past weekend.
