Utah to Appeal Gay Marriage
Ruling to High Court

Utah is going straight to the U.S. Supreme Court to appeal a federal appeals court´s ruling that gay couples have a constitutional right to marry, the state attorney general´s office announced Wednesday. The state opted to challenge the decision with the nation´s highest court rather than request a review from the entire 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. That option is now off the table, no matter what the high court decides. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes´ office said in a statement the appeal will be filed in the coming weeks. Some have ‘predisposition’ to
become president: Hillary Clinton
New York Post, by Marisa Schultz    Original Article

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton defended American political dynasties — including her own — arguing some families may just have a “predisposition” to become presidents. In an interview published Tuesday with Der Spiegel, Clinton batted down the notion that a succession of Bushes and Clintons in the White House would turn American politics into a monarchy. “We had two Roosevelts,” the former secretary of state told the German publication. “We had two Adams. It may be that certain families just have a sense of commitment or even a predisposition to want to be in politics.”

Vials of morphine were systemically stolen from a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and replaced with water and saline so that dying veterans got the wrong treatments, a longtime VA nurse told The Daily Caller. “A nurse taking care of hospice patients over the past year had been diverting vials of morphine,” said Valerie Riviello, a 28-year veteran nurse at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, New York. “Those patients that were dying in hospice were not getting their intended pain medication.” Management became aware of the recurring theft without reporting it to higher levels of

Welcome to the summer doldrums. Moviegoers have put Tinseltown on the grill this summer. After two spectacular record-breaking years, the July Fourth weekend’s box office just heaped on more summer misery at the multiplex. The holiday weekend saw a gigantic drop of 46 percent in box-office receipts for the top 12 movies, with little beyond “Transformers” drawing a crowd. Some of the publicly traded cinema companies fell Monday on the news. Boxofficemojo.com reports that total box-office take was $120.6 million; the last time it was that low was in 1999, when “South Park” was released and the July Fourth box-office

Liberals should spend less time lauding the dissents in last week´s Hobby Lobby decision by the U.S. Supreme Court and more time reading them. If they did, they´d notice that some of their main arguments find little support -- even from liberal justices. President Barack Obama´s administration has sought to require almost all employers that offer health insurance to cover contraceptives. The court´s majority ruled that Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and similar companies could refuse to cover contraceptives to which they have religious objections. Many liberals say that this ruling was flawed because the Religious Freedom Restoration Act -- the

PARIS — More than two and a half millennia ago, the Assyrian King Senaccherib descended on his enemies “like the wolf on the fold,” as the Bible tells us—and as Lord Byron wrote in cantering cadences memorized by countless Victorian schoolchildren: “His cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold; And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea.” The Assyrian and Babylonian empires appear throughout the Old Testament as examples of ruthless grandeur and godless decadence. The Bible says Sennacherib’s army was destroyed by the Angel of the Lord. The Israelites were carried off to Babylon, where

Illegal aliens presumed to have exposed border patrol agents in San Diego, California, to scabies may have been released into the general population, according to a July 4 letter from Ronald Zermeno, director of Health and Safety of a local chapter of the National Border Patrol Council, the union representing Border Patrol agents. “We do not know exactly which detainee was infected and processed at Brown Field that resulted in the agent contracting this disease," the letter, sent to Paul Beeson, Chief Patrol agent at the U.S. Border Patrol in Chula Vista, CA, said. Summer is hot upon us, another Supreme Court term is ending, and now it is time to evaluate America’s most tutored — and tortured — constitutional law student. It is unusual for a pupil of the Constitution to have such exhaustive continuing education courses, with such arduous nine-on-one tutoring from the foremost experts in the entire world. It is especially unusual since the pupil in question has actually had a constitutional law degree conferred upon him by an esteemed Ivy League institution and lectured on constitutional law at an equally esteemed institution of higher learning. Indeed, this is no ordinary

The unpopular, job-killing Obamacare provision that forces businesses with 50 or more employees to pick up the tab for workers´ health insurance or face a hefty tax has now lost support from even liberals, Politico Magazine reported Sunday. Liberals ranging from President Barack Obama´s own former press secretary Robert Gibbs to the liberal Urban Institute and Commonwealth Fund say ditching the employer mandate makes sense and would reduce "distortions" in the labor market. Moreover, as they note, most large businesses already provide health insurance; the provision is only expected to increase coverage by 200,000 nationwide. Furthermore, Obamacare´s employer mandate compliance

HOUSTON, Texas--Early in July it was revealed that doctors and nurses were allegedly threatened with arrest if they disclosed any information about the diseases discovered in federal housing facilities for illegal immigrants. Many on the left have claimed that by speaking out about their work at the facilities, medical personnel would be violating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which "protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information." But Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet--an experienced physician and nationally recognized speaker--told Breitbart Texas that under the law nurses and doctors are free to speak out. "It is not a violation

The report that President Obama has promised Senator Elizabeth Warren “complete support” if she runs for president has the ring of truth. We read it in the New York Post under the byline of Edward Klein, author of the number one New York Times bestseller “Blood Feud,” about the relations between the Clintons and the Obamas. He calls the promise the President has made to Senator Warren “a stinging rebuke to his nemesis Hillary Clinton.” Our interest in a Warren campaign has to do with the opening it would present to address what we see as the most important issue

As a poll of American voters ranks Barack Obama as the worst president of all time, Matt Lewis says his presidency has been a disastrous flop - talented and much-hyped but ultimately unsatisfying. The trailers were great, but the movie was horrible. Six years in, that´s the general consensus on the Obama presidency. Having ridden a wave of "hope and change" to the White House, President Barack Obama has failed to deliver on his huge box office, err, ballot box expectations. Just how bad is it? Since it is summer "blockbuster" season, I´ll explain thusly: There´s a difference between being bad

Sarah Palin on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans calling for the impeachment of President Obama, writing in a Breitbart op-ed that the influx of young illegal immigrants over the southern border "is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, ´no mas.´ " Mixed/careless metaphors aside, this is nothing but bad news for Republicans — especially four months until the 2014 election. Palin is hardly the first GOP politician to raise the issue of impeachment over the past couple years. Others include Sens. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Reps. Blake Farenthold (R-Tex.),

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, “no mas.” Without borders, there is no nation. Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept. Discrediting the price paid for America’s exceptionalism over our history, he’s given false hope and taxpayer’s change to millions of foreign nationals who want to sneak into our country illegally. Because of Obama’s purposeful dereliction of duty an untold

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

World Net Daily reported, via Free Republic: The retail giant Costco Wholesale has issued an order to remove all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” from the shelves of its stores nationwide, WND has confirmed. The book, in this midterm election year, is a strong rebuttal of the progressive ideology behind President Obama’s policies, which have been supported by Costco co-founder and director Jim Sinegal, a major Democrat donor and a speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention that nominated the president. Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

President Obama evidently has decided not to put a human face on the crisis unfolding at the U.S. southern border—not even his own. The White House said over and over again Monday that Obama will not travel to the border with Mexico despite flying to Texas this week to raise money for Democratic candidates there. It´s certainly in part a political decision, one meant to avoid taking ownership of a difficult issue on which the White House would prefer to share blame. (Snip) In other words, if Obama goes goes to the border, he owns the problem. If he doesn't, he's blasted for a lack of leadership.
